Saturday's Critters # 637

Welcome to Saturday's Critters! Hello and Happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." John Muir

Click on images for better viewing.

A mosaic sharing some of my yard birds, at this time we were having super cold weather and snow/ice on the ground.  I tried to make sure my birds were getting food and water.  The birds seen in the photos are the White-throated Sparrow, Dark-eyed Juncos and a male Cardinal.

"The sound of birds stops the noise in my mind." Carly Simon

It has been too hard to take Miney for a walk on the fire roads, we had so much snow and ice. We have been playing with her indoors, to keep her active.

From my archives I am sharing the Anhinga. It is a common bird seen in Florida. The Anhinga is also known as American Darter or the Snakebird.

There is at least one Anhinga on this tree with a few Cormorants. Can you find the Anhinga?  The bill is different on the Anhinga, sharper and thin.

The Anhinga can stay under water for a long period of time.

The male is a dark color almost glossy looking. Their wings are streaked with white.

Anhinga seen at Circle B Reserve.

Pretty colors on the breeding male Anhinga.

I have seen the Anhinga in various place during my travels,  a lot have been seen in Florida, but they were also seen in the parts of the Caribbean and Central and South America.

I am linking up to Heidrun's Mosaic Monday   I hope you can stop by and visit Heidrun and check out the Mosaic Monday post.

Thanks to all my visitors and for your past and present comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves and respects wildlife. Thank you for linking up a critter post.

So sorry for all the snow! Glad Miney has entertainment anyways :-)
I never saw an Anhinga! Unfair the males are always prettier? Or...beter for the females after all. Maybe the bird-worls is better..
Have a great Saturday, here it´s so windy, if my hat wasn´t attached, I´d lost it!

Dear Eileen, Miney is adorable and I am glad you kept her indoors and played with her there. I saw a dog here in Montreal walking on a leash with his owner and he was wearing boots. So cute to see the dog with boots on.
Your photos are really captivating.
Thank you so much for sharing the beauty around you.
Have a great weekend.

Hello Eileen,

I've been watching TV about the cold weather and all the snow you've had. It's great that you're getting Miney active inside.
That's an exciting bird you're showing pictures of today. Those are beautiful pictures you've taken of it.
Take care, and have a great weekend!

Meanwhile, Eileen, your Ahinga shots are wonderful - I particularly like the last two. Have a warm weekend! YAM xx

I have been familiar with Anhingas from living in FL…and here in western NC I also see them sometimes on the river sunning their wet feathers after diving a while. I never knew the difference from Cormorants before.

The first 2 months of the year have been extremely cold and snowy here too in my part of Ontario, Canada. Finally yesterday it was a bit nicer and we were able to get out briefly to one of the rivers by us. This week is an archive post but at least I will have some new photos for next week.

The Ahinga is really handsome -- and new to me. Poor Miney -- her day will come, and soon. (Smart not to venture on the ice.) Only a feline critter today but she's a good one!

I've been looking at your weather and it has been rough lately. I would imagine it would be hard to keep an active dog calmed down inside when the weather is so bad.
I love your yard birds. Some of them are the same we have, sparrows and dark eyed juncos in particular.
The first time I saw an anhinga was in New Orleans several years ago. Such strange dinosaur looking birds hanging their wings out to dry. The variety of birds is almost magical.

Cloudia said...

Oh Miney You are so cute! So many great birds here today Eileen. Thank you my friend thank you. Aloha!

Hello and hugs kisses to Miney. Sorry about all that snow and ice, and I remember the first time I saw an Anhinga. It was at Emerson Point and it was all by itself sunning on a log in a pond. I said to Diane what is that???? your photos are amazing. I only got photos of them when holding out wings in the sun, nothing like yours..

Thank you Sandra, I appreciate your visit and comment.
The ice is starting to melt I took Miney up and down the road but when cars came by I had to step off the road onto the snow and ice. Miney pulls very hard, so I will be waiting until it is safer to take her for a walk. The Anhinga is a beautiful bird, I love all the birds. Have a great day and happy 1st week of March.

Loved the mosaic 🤗
You indeed are so blessed to be able to visit so many places for bird watch 🥰♥️

The anhinga is so much showier than its' cousin the cormorant. I love their striped wings when they're drying them all spread out! Miney is lucky to have indoor "playmates" to keep him active !! But I hope spring is on the horizon before too long.

Poor Miney - indoor agility training I guess. The eye on the Anhinga is magnificient. I don't know this bird. Stunning!

Only once in a blue moon does a bird stop by at the tree out my front window! I imagine if I put a feeder out, I might get more visitors. I like your compassion for caring for your birds. I also like when you share your photos of birds I have never heard of like the Anhinga.

Michelle said...

Poor Miney! I know it is hard to keep a dog active indoors, when the weather is bad. Thank you for sharing your photos and have a wonderful week ahead!

Hi Eileen, I am very happy today to tell you about the rescue of cygnets in our waterways. Thankyou so much for your continuing linkup. We have noticed this year far less little birds around our place. I think our new neighbours have a cat, and I have heard a lot of crows lately. So quiet without the songs of the little birds. Have a wonderful week.

Eillen, I've never heard of an Anhinga before, so I'm very happy you shared this post. Must be a relative of the Cormorant. Thank you for hosting, and I wish your husband good health.
