Wow, December just flew by. This year 2024, has been good we enjoyed two big trips and lots of little getaways. In April we were traveling all over Arizona and in early August we enjoyed our trip to Alaska. I am hoping to do some traveling in 2025.

1. As always still behind posting, these are from Oct 3rd. We were still seeing our flowers blooming and butterflies visiting. My backyard birds on this day were the Carolina Wren, Mockingbird and the Tufted Titmouse.
2. Oct 5th, a Praying Mantis sitting on our deck railing, possible butterfly id is a Fritillary, Red-bellied Woodpecker, a Downy Woodpecker seen on the NCR Bike trail.
3. Oct 6th, I had about 6 Eastern Bluebirds checking out all my bird houses. They are always a treat to see.
4. Oct 10th, not a critter image but we were able to see the Northern Lights from our deck. My son also saw the Northern Lights from his house, bottom left photo.
5. Oct 12, the Northern Flicker and the Peacock sitting on our deck and in the side yard a Cooper's Hawk watching over our yard. We have not seen the peacock for over a month now, not sure why he is missing. I am hoping he is safe at his real home up the street.
6. Oct 15th, the photos are from our walk to the lake. The only birds seen were the Double-crested Cormorants. The fall colors were looking pretty. We saw a couple of horseback riders on the trail across the lake.
7. Oct 17th, in my backyard the Eastern Bluebirds were still being seen around our birdhouses. The Downy Woodpecker on our deck and my first of the season a Dark-eye Junco.
8. Oct 18th, we took a walk on the local NCR bike trail. The dog sled team was out for a practice run on the trail. A deer walked across the trail in front of me and second deer came running across the trail. We road past the Friendly Farms ponds and notice a Great Egret was still hanging out with the usual Canada Geese.
9. Oct 27th, from our walk to another part of the Prettyboy Reservoir. A little group of Canada Geese in flight and a Northern Flicker.
10. Oct 28th, another walk on the NCR trail. We saw a group of deer on the trail. They did not seem spooked and stood and watched us. A Dark-eyed Junco and an unknown Hawk perched in a nearby tree.

Oct 7-9th, these photos are from our latest visit to Chincoteague Island NWR Virginia and Blackwater NWR, Cambridge Md. These are some of my favorite places to visit to see wildlife.
Click on images for better viewing!
1. On the way to Chincoteague Island Virginia we pass by Blackwater NWR in Cambridge Maryland. We drove through the refuge on the wildlife drive one loop before getting back on the road the Virginia.
2. Chincoteague Ponies, the main attraction for visiting the Chincoteague Island NWR.
3. Belted Kingfisher
4. Great Egret
5. Gulls, Cormorants and Terns. The Laughing Gull seems to be the most common gull seen at the refuge. The bottom photos shows the gulls with two different Terns, one of the Terns has more of a yellow bill and the other is really orange-red colored bill.
6. There are a few Terns seen at this wildlife refuge. The Royal Terns, Caspian Terns and the Forster's Tern.
The Sanderlings were plentiful and fun to watch on the beach. They like to run back and forth to the water.
7. Tricolored Herons
8. Chincoteague Island National Seashore.
9. Tom's Cove sunset, Chincoteague Island NWR

1. September is the time to see the Warblers in my backyard, they love the berries on the Devil's Walking Stick. Below are the Cape May Warbler, female Cardinal and a young deer in my yard.
2. The Lantana plant and the Fuchsia were looking beautiful throughout September, a female Scarlet Tanager was seen at the same berries. The Hummingbird and butterflies love these plants.
3. The mosaic below is made of photos from our walk at the Hashawha Nature Center, Below are the American Robin, House Finch, Deer , Groundhog, female House Finch, Gray Catbird and a unknown warbler hiding behind some leaves.
4. The Eastern Bluebirds, 4-5 bluebirds were hanging around the birdhouse. They might use the house during the colder nights to stay warm.
5. Sept 22, our walk to the Prettyboy Reservoir. We saw a Green Heron and just a few leaves were starting to turn pretty colors.
The Green Heron look like it was hiding in the bushes on the lake shore.
6. September 23rd, I saw a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak at the Devil's Walking Stick berries.
7. Below several mosaics are all from Sept 24, my backyard birds. The Hermit Thrush was enjoying the berries. I saw two together on the Devil's Walking Stick, bottom left photo.
On the same day as above and at the same back yard berries, are the Northern Parula, Cape May Warbler, Brown Thrasher and a female Scarlet Tanager.
Below same day Sept 24 in my backyard, are the Northern Flicker and the Ruby-throated Hummingbird.
Again on the same day Sept 24, I found the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker eating the berries.
The Peacock came for a visit to our deck, perched on the deck railing.
8. Sept 26, below more birds at the berries, the Black-throated Blue Warbler, Mourning Doves, Hermit Thrush, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, American Robin, Tennessee Warbler and a Northern Flicker.
9. Not the best photo, looking through my bedroom window blind at the Pileated Woodpecker. Another bird that loves those berries on the Devil's Walking Stick.
10. Sept 29, the cottontail bunnies love our yard. I saw this one on our driveway.
Sept 30th, I heard the Gray Catbird knocking on our den window. I took a few photos of the Catbird sitting in the Rhododendron right outside the window.
This post takes me through the end of September, I am still behind sharing my critter photos. I hope you enjoyed the birds and wildlife.
Today is my son's birthday, Happy Birthday Brian!🎈🎂
