Just Local

I am linking up with Skywatch Friday  and Good Fences
I hope you can join in on the fun and share your fence scenes and pretty skies.

Still cleaning up some old files and another short post for my Skywatch Friday and Good Fences I am sharing various scenes from my neighborhood and yard.

Not far from our house we pass this rural scene on the way to my son's house.

The geese were enjoying a field that was recently cleared.

The sky during one of our recent walks looked pretty.

The only snow I've seen so far this year on Dec 19th, a light dusting on our deck. BTW, you can see our fence just past the deck railing..

A sunset from our deck, I like the pretty pink clouds.

Here are two shots of the moon taken on Dec 20th.

I had to wait till the moon rose above the trees for a clear shot. I believe there were some thin clouds around the moon. Someone previously asked about the setting for my moon photos. These are straight out of the camera which was on the AUTO setting and were hand held. I do not use a tripod for my photos, maybe they would be better if I did.

I hope you enjoyed the scenes and images. Thank you for stopping by and most all for the nice comments. Have a happy day and weekend ahead..

Some of the locals

I am linking up with NF Winged   and  Skywatch Friday

This week is actually going slow for me, maybe because we have a long weekend coming up. Monday is the Columbus day holiday. Yes! A long weekend, I hope the weather will cooperate. This post is about watching the sunset and sharing some neighborhood birds. I am looking forward to seeing your skies from around the world, I hope you are all joining the Skywatch.

A neighboring field, I am not sure what is growing here but the green leaves were turning beautiful colors.

A nearby local pond always attracts the Canada Geese and sometimes GB heron.

On a day I was riding by there was one lone domestic goose.

The birds gathering at the local pond, mostly Canada Geese and one Great Blue Heron.

I am sharing hubby's sunset shots over our lake..  Looks pretty.

Hubby got some pretty reflection shots too.

This cardinal has a sad look, maybe a young one that has been scolded by the adults. Thanks for visiting my post and  blog and I always appreciate your comments.

  Happy Skywatching everyone!

Scarlet Tanager

I am linking up with World Bird Wednesday  and Nature Notes

The Scarlet Tanager is my bird this week. Hubby and I hear them often above our heads while we are walking on the fireroads around our house and neighborhood. The Scarlet Tanager is a breeding bird here in Maryland and they are nesting right here at the watershed...the woods surrounding our house.

The male is a gorgeous red with black wings and tail.  They nest in deciduous and mixed woods. The female is an olive with brownish wings. The juvenile male has the coloring like the female but with black wings. Their song is one I recognize each year when they return to my woods. Definitely one of the more colorful birds I see and another one of my favorite summer birds.

Also, thank you for stopping by to see my bird and photos. I appreciate your visits and comments. Hope the rest of your week is great...Happy Birding!!

Neighborhood and backyard birds

I am linking up with World Bird Wednesday  and  Nature Notes

This weekend we some family things to do and a friends surprise 50th birthday party so we stayed close to home for our walks.  I did some backyard birding and hubby and I took a walk on the fireroad near the side of the house.

Some of my backyard birds were the Redbellied Woodie, Tufted Titmouse and a Junco.

These are some shots from along the fireroad and down to the lake.

One of the two  Hermit Thrushes we saw playing along a small creek off the fireroad.

One of the four eagles we saw while out for a walk. The other three were juvies that were chasing each other.

A few of the Canada Geese we saw on the lake. They were pretty noisy, I thought maybe because the eagles were nearby.

My youtube video of the geese and one of the eagles we saw at our lake. Not really our lake but I like to call it ours, it is just a short walk out the back door.

That's my World... this is my neighborhood

That’s My world, this is my neighborhood...pictures clickable... Please check out more great blogs and photos and click on my  THAT'S MY WORLD link.

My house is one of six in the neighborhood that is close to a watershed and just a walk away from the lake. It is like having a park right outside our door. I was born in a city of townhouses (row houses) and I can definitely say I am not a city girl any more. I love my neighborhood. My hubby and I and our dog are always taking walks on the fireroads around the reservoir.

My goldie loves swimming in the lake.

On the lower side of the lake is a dam and the state park.

Another great thing about my house and neighborhood is the birds. I get to see some great birds.
The woodpeckers are one of my favorites, I see the Redbellied woodpeckers, Pileated, Downy, Hairy Woodpecekers, Northern Flickers, and the Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers. A few times I have seen Bald Eagles fly over my house and sometimes I see them in the trees near the lake. The deer are always nearby, once in my yard eating birdseed. Hunting season started recently so the hunters are parked up and down the street. We have to be careful walking in the woods now.
