Saturday's Critters # 424

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

For my critter post, I have a few backyard birds and our grand-dogs Nibbles and Winnie the Corgi.

1. This male Cardinal looks like it has a deformed beak. I hope it will survive and still find food to eat.  Poor thing doesn't look happy.

2. Not sure if you can find the two Dark-eyed Juncos, they are finding some food on the ground in our yard.

3. A grumpy looking male Cardinal was seen sitting in our butterfly bush.

4. Winnie the Corgi on the top and Nibbles is on the bottom protecting her toys.

5. Winnie and Nibbles enjoyed our walk to the lake.

6. The fire road is mostly in the shade and the last snow has not melted. Nibbles and Winnie did not seem to mind walking on the snow covered pine needles.

7.  The only bird I saw at our local lake was a Belted Kingfisher flying away.

8. This Dark-eyed Junco was seen in my yard but I have been seeing groups of them flying away from the edge of the roads when I am driving.

Celebrating, our beautiful grandson Mason. Another precious angel for our family to cherish and love.

I have some various yard birds and some neighborhood birds seen during one of our fire road walks to the lake. These may be the same birds seen on different days, from late December and early January.

1. Seen outside my windows in December, the Hermit Thrush and a Northern Mockingbird.

2. Our Prettyboy reservoir, Belted Kingfisher and a few Canada Geese.

3. A Belted Kingfisher seen at our local lake.

4. A Hermit Thrush is seen often outside my den window, I keep my exercise bike right in front of the window. I get to watch the birds while riding.

5. Our first accumulated snow storm was on Jan 6th, we woke up to around 5 inches of snow on the ground.

6. Jan 8th, I watched  this Mockingbird in my yard, it found some berries and snow to eat.

7. Northern Mockingbird was seen eating snow of the top of the bird house below.

Our Grand-dogs have been keeping us busy, they are fun to have as house guests.  Nibbles is a Shepherd mix and Winnie is the Corgi.

Extra, extra read all about it, Wyatt will be a big brother very soon!

We enjoyed our visit on Dec 12-14th to Ocean City Md , Indian River Inlet Delaware and on the way home we stopped at Bombay Hook NWR near Dover Delaware.

1. Our last morning, we watched the sunrise at beach in front of our Ocean City hotel. We drove a loop home through Delaware stopping at the Indian River Inlet for one last time. We saw one Long-tailed Duck, Sanderlings, lots of Gulls on the beach, Bufflehead Ducks and a Common Loon.

2.  Indian River Inlet in Delaware is usually a great place to see the sea ducks, below is a one Long-tailed Duck. This one duck was by itself, usually we see a flock of these Long-tailed Ducks.

3. Also seen at the Indian River Inlet, a group of Bufflehead Ducks.

4. Bombay Hook NWR is one of my favorite places to visit, we drove the wildlife drive and below are the some of my sightings. Two deer stood close to the drive, Mute Swans, Northern Pintail and Gadwall ducks, lots of Canada Geese, Tundra Swans, Hooded Mergansers, Great Egret in the tree and various duck species.

5.

6. The Hooded Mergansers are one of my favorite ducks. Some other ducks seen mostly with their heads down in the water were the American Black Duck, Mallards, Northern Shoveler, Gadwall, Green-winged Teal, Northern Pintail, possibly some Ring-necked Ducks and Scaup.

7.  We watched two different pairs of Bald Eagles at Bombay Hook NWR, they liked sitting close to their mate.

8. The Bald Eagles are always a treat to see.

Last but definitely not the least, our cute grandson and our grand dogs. We recently started dog sitting, they will be here for 5-6 months. Our son and DIL are in the process of selling their home and having a new one built. They will be moving in temporarily with the in-laws and are not able to take the dogs with them. Below Wyatt, Winnie and Nibbles.
