As usual I am still behind sharing photos.  I am sharing a variety of photos. They are from my walks with Miney, our back yard birds and fire road walks.

1. I wish the hummingbirds were still here, but these photos are Sept 13th. I was looking out for my Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. I like to record the last back yard sighting of the hummers. My last hummingbird sighting was Sept 29th. 

Same day I am looking for the fall time warblers arriving in my back yard.  They do love the berries on the Devil's Walking Stick plant. Below is the Tennessee Warbler. 

Again the same day, below is the Cape May Warbler. It is one of the more common warblers I have been seeing at the berries.  

2. Sept 14th, my walk with Miney on the local fire road.  

The Cape May Warblers continue to be seen eating the berries.

It's not often we see a colorful sunset but this day ended quite colorful. 

3. Sept 15th, a quick walk with Miney.  

4. Sept 17th, the Peacock is sitting on top of our swing. 

5. Sept 18th, we leave early in the morning for hubby's Dialysis treatment on this morning I heard a Screech Owl calling near the end of our driveway. Later in the day I notice the the Hummingbird sitting on a metal butterfly near the feeder. 

Sept 19, a walk with Miney to the lake, a few trees looking colorful.  

7. I am sharing flashback photos of past year backyard Warblers.  Below is the Black-throated Blue Warbler, it is another warbler that loves the berries. I saw this bird this year outside my den window. 

Below is the Fall Black-throated Green Warbler.

I am sharing a variety of photos, some from our yard, our neighborhood walk on the fire roads and to our local Prettyboy Reservoir.  There are some photos from our outing to Conowingo Dam and the Susquehanna River State Park and more from the local NCR bike trail. BTW, my header photo now shows a view of neighborhood Prettyboy reservoir and the Prettyboy watershed. 

1. Sept 17th, usually I see various species of Warblers in September they love to eat the berries from the Devil's Walking Stick plants in our yard.   This year I am not see as many different species as in previous years,  that can not be a good thing. I did see the male and female Black-throated Blue Warblers but I was not able to get their photos. The Cape May Warblers and a few Tennessee Warbler pictured in the mosaic below.

2. Sept 19th, more images of the Tennessee Warbler and the Cape May Warblers. 

3. Sept 19th, another walk to the local reservoir. Again I am seeing the same Great Blue Herons, Belted Kingfishers, Solitary Sandpipers, unknown raptor standing in the mud, more images of the Sandpipers, Great Blue Heron and the Green Heron.

4. Sept 30th,  in my yard is a Northern Mockingbird enjoying the Devils Walking Stick berries.  

On the same day as above, these our the birds seen during our walk to the lake. Below are the Canada Geese, Solitary Sandpipers, Belted Kingfisher, Double-crested Cormorant and the Great Blue Heron.

5. Oct 1st, the Blue Jays are sitting in our rhododendron bush outside the den window.  Some times they are attacking the window or just sitting there fussing loudly. 

On the same day as above our walk was at the NCR Bike trail, we saw some fall flowers looking beautiful and some colorful leaves and berries.  I heard more birds than I actually saw, the birds were hiding from me.  

6. Oct 3rd, we drove to the Conowingo Dam and the Susquehanna River State Park.  Below are the Bald Eagles seen around the dam and on the towers. We also saw lots of Great Blue Herons, some Double-crested Cormorants, Vultures and Pigeons.

We drove a little further, and took a walk at the Susquehanna River State Park trail.  Views of the river and bridge, mushrooms, the Rock Run Gristmill, Great Blue Heron and more Cormorants. 

We enjoyed our lunch at the picnic area and then tried to walk (the little trail was overgrown with weeds) around the nearby pond.  Here I was able to see some Eastern Bluebirds, Mallards and some Wood Ducks. 

7. Oct 4th, another walk to our local Prettyboy reservoir. The lake water level is still very low. We need more rain.  In the mosaic below are views of the reservoir, fungi, a Great Blue Heron and the Solitary Sandpipers are still hanging around and we saw a small group of Killdeer. 

It looks like I am staying behind sharing my photos, almost a month behind and I have one more day from our Ireland trip to share.  

I will be away from my computer for a few days after Saturday, just a heads up I will be late commenting.

More local birds, backyard butterflies and blooms and the grand-dogs. Our son's fence is supposed to be done this week, as I type this the dogs could be home or heading home.

1. Aug 25th,  a walk with the grand-dogs and some of our backyard blooms, birds and butterflies.

2. Aug 25th, flowers on our deck and around the yard. A male Ruby-throated hummingbird is showing off his pretty ruby necklace.

3. Aug 25th , a larger image of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I am seeing 4-5 hummingbirds zooming around our yard and coming to the feeders.

4. Three butterfly species, the Swallowtail, Monarch and a Fritillary seen on our Lantana plant. 

5. Aug 26th, I noticed this Tennessee Warbler from our kitchen window. I think it was eating bugs that are on the butterfly bush. 

6. Aug 26th, I am seeing lots of Black Swallowtail butterflies and just one Monarch at our Lantana plant. 

7.  Aug 26th, a mosaic with various captures of the Tennessee Warbler hopping around our butterfly bushes catching bugs to eat. 

8. Aug 26th, it is molting season and the Cardinals are looking a little ragged.

September is a good time to see the migrating birds, I am seeing some of the fall Warblers in my yard. Each year they stop by and enjoy eating some berries.  Berries are plentiful on the Aralia spinosa. The Cape May Warbler seems to arrive in groups of males, females and 1st year birds. The Northern Parula and the Tennessee Warbler and I am hearing a Pine Warbler around the yard too.

These photos were all taken from my dining room window, so they are not the clearest but still good enough for id-ing the birds.

1. The male Cape May Warbler, yellow cheeks and breast with streaks, and yellow throat with a green back with whitish wing bars. 

2.  The Cape May Warbler above is a brighter yellow, I had about 5-6 of these Cape May Warblers visiting at the same time. I was surprised to see the bird below eating something from my butterfly bush.

3. Cape May Warbler is yellow behind the cheeks, streaking on the breast. First fall female maybe dull and yellow maybe absent.

4. Two Fall Cape May Warblers, their upperparts are gray and their is less streaking on the chest, has a yellowish rump/ Can you find both of the warblers?

5 .  Some days, I can see 5-6 different warblers eating the berries, a Tennessee Warbler has the white eyebrow, light yellow on breast and white under tail. 

6.  I believe this is a fall Northern Parula, back is dull but have some bright greenish feather on back and light yellow on the breast.

7. The broken eye-ring looks different to me, maybe because the way the bird is perched? This is the same bird as the above photo. 

8. Looking at the front of the Tennessee Warbler.

9. A Male Northern Cardinal is joining the warblers eating berries too. 

10. The Gray Catbird enjoys the berries too. 

11. Aralia spinosa, also known as Devil's Walking Stick. Stems are covered with sharp spines and has purple-black berries.

I have some more of my yard birds and critters seen as of Sept 28 through Oct 3rd.  

 

1.  On Sept 29th I saw a male Black-throated Blue Warbler eating the Devil's walking stick berries. 

2. Butterflies seen on Sept 28th, top is the Red-spotted Purple Butterfly and on the bottom is the Monarch Butterfly seen on our Buddleia.

3. I've been seeing this big Ground Hog in our yard, one day it was on top of our fence eating the Morning Glories, another day it was in the side yard eating grass?

 

 4.  Sept 30th last sighting of least one Ruby-throated Hummingbird. It likes to sit in the Buddleia Bush near the feeder. After Oct 1st, I have not seen any Hummingbirds. I left the feeder up just in case.

 

 

 

 

5.  This Bull frog has been seen often at the edge of our little pond next to the turtle statue.  They are buddies..

 6.  Sept 30th, my back yard birds: Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Tennessee Warbler, Cape May Warbler and a possible Hermit Thrush.

 

 

Sept 30th, another  Scarlet Tanager, female or first year male?

 

 

October 3rd,  I was still seeing migrating warblers in my yard. Below is on the left a Tennessee Warbler, top right is the Cape May Warbler, bottom right is a female Black-throated Blue Warbler.
