Photos may look familiar, but they have not been shared till now. They are from different walks on the NCR trail, the local fire roads and my back yard.

1. Aug 20th, scenes from the NCR trail in the Parkton area. Miney at the bridge looking down stream. 

From the trail, I could see a Red-shouldered Hawk sitting on a fence. 

2. I am guessing this is shelf or bracket fungi. It reminds me of a 3 tier bird bath or fountain. 

3. Aug 21, my backyard Monarch butterflies. I was able to capture to Monarch butterflies close together on our butterfly bush. 

4. Aug 22nd, our walk to Prettyboy lake with Miney and hubby. 

5. I heard a lot of birds, but this Great Blue Heron was the only bird I captured with my camera. 

6. My flashback photos are from Curacao 2012, the Crested Caracara was a treat to see standing next to the road acting like a vulture. This bird is also known as a Mexican Eagle. It is seen in only a few southern US states.

8. More Flashback images from Florida 2017, one of my favorite birds seen in Florida was the Crested Caracara. This bird behaves like a vulture but it is a falcon. Often seen walking on the ground and eating off of a carcass.

Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park

Happy Easter everyone!

I am sharing another great Florida park called Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park. This park consist of 54,000 acres or dry prairie. It is home to many endangered plants and animals. Two of my favorite sightings were of the Loggerhead Shrike and the Crested Caracara. Both of these birds were seen on the long 5 mile entrance road into the park. This is supposed to be a great park for viewing the night sky, we were only there for the day.


A Loggerhead Shrike, a songbird with raptor habits. It's nickname is the Butcherbird and is related to the Northern Shrike.

The Crested Caracara, one of my favorites.

Great Egrets have a party and invited the  Crested Carcara.

Egrets and herons and warnings of alligators.

One of the views of the trail, a pretty clear blue sky and some palm trees.

Near the visitor center, there was a sculpture of the Carolina Parakeet. This parakeet is now extinct and was the only parrot species native to the United States. The last known wild Carolina Parrot nesting location was in this park. Also in the collage is a  Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly.

Most of our walk on the trail was out in the open, no shade to be found. I would suggest going to this park on a cool day.

Saturday's Critters #82

It's Saturday and it's time to share your critters.. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who has linked up in the past and for those who are linking in on this week's critter party. And of course I always appreciate my blogging friends stopping by just for a visit.

I am sharing some more birds from our visit to the Homosassa Spring Wildlife Park. The birds are Florida native birds, most of which have been rescued and are being rehabbed.

The Florida Great White Heron is seen with the pink legs.

Pink Flamingos,  juveniles and adult White Ibis. The Pink Flamingo is not native to all of Florida but has been seen in extreme southern end of Florida. Crested Caracara

 I am linking up my  post with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

More from my archives..the Crested Caracara is a bird of prey and is in the family Falconidae. I am not sure who reads different state listserves for birds that are being seen. But, it appears a Caracara has made it to New Jersey and is being seen near Cape May. So, I was reminded of the Crested Caracara I have seen on my previous trips. I wanted to share my Crested Caracara with my followers who might not know what this bird looks like.

The Northern Crested Caracara seen during our trip to Curacao.I believe these birds are also seen in the Texas area of the United States.

They kind of remind me more of a Turkey or Black Vulture than a bird of prey. I did read they are kind of sluggish and can even be scavengers. The shot above was taken during my trip to Costa Rica. Not the best flight shot but I thought is was neat to see two together.
