1. Still behind with my photos.  These are from Sept 3rd, we went to the Hashawha Nature Park. Miney seemed to enjoy the walk and all the new smells.

2.  A group of wildflowers, the Cardinal flowers are a favorite. 

"Many eyes go through the meadow, but few see the flowers in it."

Miney is waiting for her daddy to finish looking at all the Cardinal flowers. 

3. The bee below likes the Thistle. 

4. I am guessing the next two images are Skippers? 

"To me, flowers are happiness."

I am not sure what the flowers/weeds are called, they look pretty to me. I like the color. 

5. Hashawha Lake I usually see lots of dragonflies. I was lucky to catch this Blue Darter.

6. Heading back to our car, I noticed this Cardinal in a tree next to the trail.  It looks like a young Cardinal.

7. Sept 3rd, back at home and in my yard we saw the peacock in the back of the yard and I believe the butterfly is a Common Sulfur.  I could be wrong the Orange Sulfur looks similar.

8. My flashback photos are from our time in Florida 2016-2017 and again a Florida trip in 2019. I am sharing one of my many favorite Florida birds the Wood Stork.

More from Florida

Happy Monday everyone! 

These Mondays keep rolling right along and I am counting down the days till spring. I am sharing some photos from Jan 9th. It was another day of visiting Florida Parks and the beach. 

Update: as of the morning of 2/26 Diane's blog has returned. YAY!!!!

I wanted to mention that our blogging friend Diane of LavenderDreams had her blog disappear. I assume we all have to watch what we say in our blogs. I can't imagine Diane ever having anything negative on her blog. Maybe it is all a misunderstanding and she will get her old blog back. This is my hope. If you know a way to help, I hope you visit her at her new blog. It is sad you can blog for ten years and just suddenly all your words and photos disappear. I am including her new link and maybe we can all show our support for Diane at  The new Lavender Dreams .

We started off our day with a repeat visit to the Green Cay Nature Center. It is a great park to see the birds, easy walking on the boardwalk. 

In the mosaic below on the top row are the Painted Buntings, Purple Swamphen, Tricolored Heron. Middle row are the Little Blue Heron, pretty palm tree, Purple Gallinule. Bottom row are the Green Heron, Glossy Ibis and a Pied-billed Grebe. 

After a few hours at the Green Cay Nature Park, we headed to the nearby Wakodahatchee Wetlands. In the mosaic below are some of the birds of the wetlands. These birds are easy to see and photograph most were standing right next to the boardwalk. 


We saw a couple of American Bitterns at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, the bittern below was almost hidden in the grasses. 

Tricolored Heron landed on the boardwalk railing. 

Top row, wetland sign and boardwalk, Wood Storks, Green Heron. Middle row is a Florida gator, Purple Gallinule, Purple Swamphens, American Bittern. Bottom row the Queen Butterfly, Anhinga, Black-bellied Whistling Ducks and another alligator. 

In the mosaic below I am showing the three species in the Rallidae family, Chicken like birds and kin to the rails. The Purple Gallinule on the left, the Common Moorhen top right and the Purple Swamphen bottom right. 

Below are a few photos for comparison, sometimes people get the American Bittern on the top confused with the Green Heron in the photos below. We saw both both on this day at both of the parks mentioned above. 

Hubby and I both loved the John D. MacArthur Beach State Park located in Palm Beach County. This was our last stop of the day and I wish we had more time to spend at this park. You had a choice of walking to the beach or taking a shuttle. We decided to walk, the beach is located at the end of a 1600 foot boardwalk over the Lake Worth Lagoon. 

Not the best photo below but I wanted to document this Yellow-crowned Night Heron. It was seen from the boardwalk, I think these birds roost or nest in the mangroves along the lagoon.

John D. MacArthur Beach, it is a pretty beach . Very clean and not very crowded while we were there. The beach spans 2 miles along the Atlantic Ocean.

I am amazed at the breeding colors of the Green Iguana. We saw these Iguanas in the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Delray Beach Florida. I would say the breeding male colors are beautiful. 

These Green Iguanas can get as long as 6.6 ft.

These iguanas are not native to Florida and they are not protected.

They feed off of plants, insects and tree snails and can be known to eat bird eggs. 

I assume this Great Blue Heron was watching over it's eggs or chicks with this male Green Iguana nearby. 

The Green Iguana has spikes going down it's neck, back and tail. 

This Iguana can climb up to 50 ft. we saw them mostly in the plants and bushes next to the boardwalk at the nature center. 

The males throat fan is amazing to me, a pretty orange breeding color.

I read these iguanas are out of control in this area of Palm Beach County and other areas in South Florida. They are native lizards usually found in the Caribbean, Central and South America.

The Black-bellied Whistling Ducks are always a great sighting for me. I remember  Theresa aka Tex, from the Round*A*Round Ranch blog posting her Whistling Ducks photos. They are so cute and I love hearing their sounds. These ducks were seen during our Florida trip at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands. 

I miss Tex and her blog and photos. Speaking of bloggers gone missing, I am also missing Christine from Ireland and her blog was Christine and her Camera. I hope both Theresa, Christine and other bloggers that are MIA are all doing well.

These are some images from the Wakodahatchee Wetlands Park, Florida.  Previously the wetlands nature park was part of the wastewater utility property. 


The Wood Storks were a great bird in this nature park, they were roosting in the trees right next to the boardwalk. 

It seems the Wood Storks do not mind sharing their space with the Great Blue Heron, Anhinga, and Cormorants. The trees were filled with birds, they did not seem to mind the crowd of people that come to see them.
