I am sharing some images from our recent trip to Letchworth State Park, Mt Morris Dam controls the flow of the Genesee River, overlooks the Letchworth Canyon also known as the Grand Canyon of the East.

1. Letchworth State Park qualifies as one of the Audubon's Important Bird Areas. The open water below the dam has been known to attract over 2,000 Canada Geese in the winter. Other birds seen around the dam were the Turkey Vultures.

2.  More than 30 Wood Warbler species have been recorded in the park with 25 of the warblers being confirmed breeders.

3. A view from the Great Bend scenic overlook.

4. We watched this Bald Eagle during our stop at the Great Bend Overlook.

5. Some scenes from the Letchwork State Park, Inspiration Point, A distant view of the Upper Falls and bridge and views of the canyon walls.

6. I found this Dark-eyed Junco in a bush off the trail between the Middle and Upper Falls. Other birds we saw in the park were the Blue Jays, White-breasted Nuthatches and American Robins.

7. Below are views of the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls.

This trip was more for the views of the waterfalls, leaf peeping and scenic overlooks at the Letchworth State Park. I was lucky finding a few birds during our 3night a 4 day trip.

Saturday's Critters # 410

I have lots more photos from our getaway trip to Chincoteague Island Virginia. The Chincoteague Island NWR and National Seashore are favorite places for us to visit. These images are from our 2nd day of our 3 day trip.  There were lots of ponies and birds to see, the sunrises and the sunsets.

1. Atlantic Ocean sunrise on the beach with the Sanderlings, Tricolored Heron, rabbit, Brown Pelicans with Gulls, juvenile Little Blue Herons with Tricolored Heron and Yellowlegs, Black Skimmer with Terns and Gulls, American Oystercatchers and a Green Heron.

BTW, if I am wrong with any of my bird id's I do not mind being corrected.  Please let me know.

2. A mix of juvenile Little Blue herons, one Tricolored Heron, guessing at the Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs and one Great Egret.

3. Double-crested Cormorant, Black Skimmers and I am guessing the larger Terns could be the Royal Tern at 20 inches. The Royal Tern at 20 inches looks bigger than the 18in Black Skimmer standing nearby.

4. Chincoteague ponies, some of the egrets had a pony ride.

5. Ponies, Egrets and on the far right is a Tricolored Heron  flying by.

6. Two American Oystercatcher with a Gull.

7. White Ibis, juvenile White Ibis and a Snowy Egret mixed in. I had to zoom in for a close look at all those pink legs.

8. Chincoteague National Seashore beach, a mixed of White Ibis with various Egrets and herons, two deer standing near the wildlife drive and a sunset at Tom's Cove.

9. Various White Ibis, Snowy Egret and why does the larger white bird have a dark colored bill? Is it a young Great Egret without the yellow bill?

10. Numerous White Ibis and various Snowy and Great Egrets.

11. The end of day 2, sunset at Tom's Cove Chincoteague Island NWR.

If you are ever in the area, I highly suggest visiting the Chincoteague Island National Wildlife refuge. I hope you enjoyed my post and photos. I am looking forward to seeing your critter post.

Saturday's Critters # 408

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

On Sept 19-21, 2021 hubby and I visited Chincoteague Island, the National Wildlife Refuge and National Seashore in Virginia. I love seeing the wild ponies. It is a great place to see migrating birds, shorebirds and waders, geese and ducks.

Click on photos for larger viewing.

1. These are images from our first day Sept 19th.

On the top row are the Laughing Gull, Chincoteague wild ponies.

Second row: juvenile Little Blue Herons, Snowy Egret with Great Egret, Cattle Egret, adult Little Blue Heron.

Bottom row: Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Bald Eagle, sunset and full moon rising.

2. The Cattle Egret showing it breeding colors on it's crown and back.

3. The Chincoteague ponies, some egrets were seen on the ground and on the backs of the ponies.

4. Adult Little Blue Heron with a few first year Little Blue Herons are actually white in color showing a two toned bill.

5. I am guessing at these 3 birds, 2 were larger in size which I believe are the Greater Yellowlegs and the smaller bird in front is the Lesser Yellowlegs.

6. The Great Egret is obvious with it's long yellow bill and dark legs and feet.

7. Snowy Egret with the taller Great Egret.

8. A pair of Bald Eagles perched high in the trees.

9. A closer look at one of the Bald Eagles.

I hope you enjoyed this post, my photos and our visit to Chincoteague Island NWR.
