Pompano Beach Florida

Hello and happy Monday!

During our visit to Florida we made a quickie visit to Pompano Beach Florida. This is a busy city and is located just north of Ft. Lauderdale. The nearby Hillsboro Inlet forms part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. My main reasons or goal for visiting Pompano beach was to see the parakeets that were being seen near the beach and Pompano Pier and to see the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse.

I was lucky to get a metered spot right in front of the beach and so lucky my parking spot was right in front of the tree were the Blue-crowned Parakeets were being seen. As soon as I got out of our car I could hear the noisy parakeets. There may have been 15-20 of the pretty parakeets in the one tree. These Blue-crowned parakeets are my newest lifer.

Photos in the mosaic, I was able to zoom in on the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse. Black Skimmer were on the Pompano Beach along with some pretty Terns. The beach and water had this ugly red seaweed, it did not look like the usual sea weed I am used to seeing.

Below is my parakeet tree, the parakeets almost blended in with the green leaves.

I didn't count them but there were maybe 30 or more Black Skimmers on the beach and with some Terns and Gulls.

A closer look at the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse, there was a helicopter flying by when I took the photo from the Pompano beach. Lighthouse tours are offered only once a month and it includes a boat ride to the island where the lighthouse is located.

Thanks for your visit today!  I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

Saturday's Critters #250

Welcome to Saturday's Critters !

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

More photos from Bombay Hook NWR, we saw some wonderful birds. The large white birds with black wings are the American Avocets and the birds in flight maybe Dunlins and Plovers. These images are best enlarged.

I am pretty sure the birds sitting right in front of the Avocets are the Short-billed Dowitchers. But, they are so far away there could also be the Long-billed Dowitchers.

Below are the American Avocets, Dowitchers, Semipalmated Plovers and maybe more thrown in.

I think the Egrets were gathering so they could south south together.

A few gulls and Yellowlegs.

I admire the birders who can watch one group of birds looking to see if there is a different species mixed in. I did notice with this group there were a few Black-bellied Plovers mixed in with the Avocets and Dowitchers. Can you find them?

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments !

Ocean Isle Beach

Happy Thankful Thursday!

I have more to share from my week visit to Sunset Beach, NC. We saw an amazing sunset at the beach. Lots of birds and lovely beach scenery. On this day hubby and I walked on the nearby Ocean Isle Beach.

Various shorebirds and gulls resting on a sand bar in between Ocean Isle beach and Sunset Beach. The birds were too far away to get a good clear shot.  This photo just shows that it was a large group of various birds.

These beaches were beautiful, nice clean sand and gorgeous views of the ocean and sky.

I am thankful for all the good that is in my life and being here to enjoy a walk on the beach.
I am always thankful for your visits and your comments.

Thank you Michelle for hosting. Thankful Thursday

For my critter post I am sharing mostly bird photos from our visit to the Susquehanna River and Conowingo Dam. This time of the year you can usually see  a hundred or more Bald Eagles. We went a little early and these are some of the birds and photos from our visit.

Cape Flattery & Neah Bay

Happy Thursday, everyone!

I have a some Washington State photos to share, these are from our visit to Neah Bay and Cape Flattery. Cape Flattery is the most northwestern spot you can visit in the United States and it is part of the Makah Reservation.

You will need to buy a special permit from the Makah  to hike on the trail to see the Cape Flattery Lighthouse.

A view of the Cape Flattery trail.

The beautiful Pacific Ocean, seen from one of the Cape Flattery overlooks.

A look toward toward the Makah Bay and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Some of the birds seen Western Grebes, various Gulls, Harlequin Ducks, Rhinoceros Auklets, Red-necked Grebe, Red-throated Loon, Cormorants and a Bald Eagle with a fish.

While we were in the area we ate lunch at a restaurant called the Warmhouse in Neah Bay. We had eaten here before back in 2015, they have great milkshakes.  We also enjoyed watching the Bald Eagles right outside the restaurant windows. On this day there had to be 20-30 bald Eagles both adults and juvies. They put on a show for us while ate our lunch.

Neah Bay Bald Eagles. I think one Juvenile Eagle had a fish which attracted all the other eagles. The juvie eagle  held tight onto his fish and was not going to share.

Back at our Ocean Resort and First Beach for the sunset.

"May every sunrise hold more promise and every sunset hold more peace."

My thankful list for today:
I am thankful for good health to hike on trail like the Cape Flattery Trail.
I am thankful for blue skies and lovely weather.

I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.  Thanks so much for visiting and for your nice comments. Have a happy day!

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Below is a list of memes I am joining for this week, and to save time I am doing one post for all. They are all fun memes to participate in...I hope you can join in with the fun  and check out some of the participating posts. Special thanks to all the wonderful host and their memes, I hope you have some time to check them out.

I am sharing our most recent trip March 22-24. A two night, three day road trip to Virginia Beach, Virginia. Side excursions were stops at the Great Dismal Swamp NWR, Back Bay NWR, Chincoteague Island National Seashore. We saw some beautiful sunrises, sunsets and the moon rising over the Atlantic Ocean. Lots of birds, turtles and even some butterflies.

My first time visiting Virginia Beach,Virginia, sharing our shadows.

Above the boardwalk, turtle sculptures, gulls on the beach and the surfer sculpture. I am always having fun taking our shadow shots. I think we missed the Spring Breakers, it was not crowded at all. Just the way we like to spend time at the beach.

A Ring-billed gull on the beach.

Not many people but plenty of gulls on the beach..I love the beachy colors of the sand, ocean and the sky.

The hotel pool was closed for the winter season, but the Mallard ducks claimed the pool for themselves.

Our first sunrise at Virginia Beach!

Sharing a map of our road trip to Virginia Beach, Great Dismal Swamp NWR, Back Bay NWR and Chincoteague Island National Seashore. It was a great trip, it is always great to visit new places.

As always, I appreciate the visits and your nice comments.  Have a happy new week ahead!
