Saturday's Critters #116

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

More sad news to share, we lost another dear blogging friend in Smiling Sally.  Sally was the host of Blue Monday. I am not sure of the details, but I believe she has been sick off and on. My prayers go out to Sally's family. RIP Smiling Sally!

The Sandhill Cranes were plentiful during our Tennessee trip. I have seen them in Florida, New Mexico and a few in Maryland. The Sandhill Cranes stop at the Hiwassee Wildlife refuge during their travel from their wintering ground in Florida to the Canada Tundra. I know these are not the greatest photos, the birds were quite a distance away.

The Sandhill Cranes stand nearly 4feet tall. They have a long neck, long legs, their bodies are gray and they have red on their heads.

"If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere."

You can hear some of the Sandhill Cranes as they fly in on my Youtube video above.

Some White-tailed deer we saw at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge. I hope you enjoyed our visit to the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge.

Saturday's Critters #97

Saturday's Critters #97

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

For this week's critter post I am sharing some various yard birds and some critters that were all seen in my yard during the month of September.

Above is the juvie male Scarlet Tanager seen with the dark wings.

The Gray Catbirds were seen all summer long.

The Tennessee Warbler hung around for a couple of weeks. It was enjoying the berries.

I believe this is the Eastern Wood Pewee perched on our Weeping Cherry tree.

The female Ruby-throated Hummingbird hung out in the weeping cherry tree, close to the hummingbird feeder.

A chipmunk likes to sit on top of our wood pile.

This American Bullfrog was enjoying his favorite rock next to our little pond.

A young deer maybe a female showed up in the yard on Sept 21, the bow hunting season in the woods near our house started on Sept 11th. I hope this deer stayed safe.

The Swainson's Thrush was another new yard bird for me.

A new yard bird for me, it is the Summer Tanager. It is neat comparing the Summer Tanager to my first photo above of the juvenile male Scarlet Tanager. I hope you enjoyed my yardbirds and critters. As always I appreciate my blogging friends joining in on my Saturday Critter party. Thanks for linking up and I also appreciate the nice comments. Have a Happy Weekend

Shenandoah Nat'l Park

November 23, 2013

Linking up Camera Critters and I'd-Rather-b-birdin  and Scenic Weekends
I hope you are joining in and posting your birds and critters.

I wish everyone in the USA a very  Happy Thanksgiving!

I thought I would share the daytrip hubby and I took to Shenandoah Nat'l Park and the skyline drive on Nov 3. We missed the peak time for Shenandoah's  fall colors because we were vacationing in New Mexico. But, we had to give it a try and see what we could just for the day. We took our usual walks along the Limberlost trail and on the Appalachian trail.

It was a windy day, so the birds were hunkered down. This Hermit Thrush was the only bird we saw in the open. I did hear lots of Juncos, Kinglets, Titmouse, WT SParrows and Red-Bellied and Downy woodpeckers.

Hermit Thrush..adults are mainly brownish on the upperparts with reddish tails. The underparts are white with darkish spots. They have pink legs and a white eye-ring. They forage on the forest floor, eating insects and berries.

There are actually two Black bears in this shot, you can just BEARLY make out the smaller cub on the ground and  behind the fallen tree. During our Shenandoah visit we saw a total of three bears. These two and another one in the woods along the road.

A view from the Appalachian trail..we still managed to see some pretty colors.

A couple of White-tailed deer seen from along the road.

Some more of Shenandoah's colors. I hope you enjoyed our visit to Shenandoah Nat'l Park.

Thanks for stopping by and  I wish everyone a happy weekend.
