This was our 2nd full day in Washington state, it was a long day driving to two beaches and a visit to the Hoh Rainforest. All of these places are considered part of the Olympic National Park.

The tall trees that border Rialto beach, some look ready for the waves to come and claim them.

The first beach we stopped at is called Rialto Beach, the driftwood was actually whole trees washed up on the beach. Some of the roots were taller than we were when we stood next to them. I am pretty sure the birds flying over were the Snow Geese, a closer look at my photo you can see they were white with black edges on the wing tips. It was a cloudy day but only a little drizzle, it did not stop us from doing what we planned.

The beach at Rialto is made of stones and lots of washed up trees and driftwood.

Above are some scenes from the second beach called Ruby Beach, this beach was my favorite. I love the seastacks, the forest, and the ocean. Bird sightings included the Savannah Sparrow, various gulls like the California Gull, Cormorants and Brown Pelicans and the Bald Eagle.

A pretty Savannah Sparrow kept me company while hubby walked further down the beach.

Seastacks, driftwood and stone sculptures and cliff with the pine and fir trees all pretty scenes from Ruby Beach.

Above the cliffs with some caves, a seastack with Cormorants and Pelicans, an Eagle on the beach, seastack with trees and driftwood roots that look like a sculpture. I hope you enjoyed our visit to the Olympic National Park beaches.

Bombay Hook NWR

I am linking up with   Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday 

For this week's post I am sharing more scenery and birds from our Oct 12th visit to Bombay Hood wildlife refuge in Delaware..  I know I have been flip-flopping with different post from this getaway weekend.  We saw some beautiful fall colors, lots of birds and some flowers were still blooming.

Above are some of the birds we saw at Bombay Hook NWR were the Snowy Egret, Savannah Sparrows, Lesser Yellowlegs, American Avocets, Peregrine Falcon, Pintail Ducks, Snow Geese, Ruddy Ducks and the Belted Kingfisher.

 The fall colors seen at Bombay Hook, the red were gorgeous...

A Great Egret flies away, in the distance some red leaves poking out and on the top of the trees.

I thought these yellow flowers were pretty, nice to still see some blooms in October. I hope you enjoyed seeing more of Bombay Hook wildlife refuge..

More Sparrows, Part 2

It is very cold and windy, I hope everyone stays war and safe.. And I am wishing for warm weather to show up soon..

I am doing a second part to my previous Sparrow post..These photos are mostly from archives. Except a more recent shot of the House Sparrows..I read there are 35 types of sparrows..I have only just begun.. not sure where I am going to find all these sparrows..

Savannah Sparrow

This Savannah Sparrow was seen on the Delaware Shore.

The Sparrows are one species of bird that are hard for me to id.. So many sparrows look alike and the females make id-ing hard. I think this Dickcissel looks similar to the Savannah above.. They are found in different habitats, the beak looks different.

Edited: I found that what I thought was a Grasshopper Sparrow was actually a Dickcissel.. It looks like the sparrows.. SORRY!!

The snow has brought a lot of House Sparrows to my feeders.. I can look out and see 10 or more at a time.. They are year round birds and seem to be plentiful..

Swamp Sparrow

My only shot of the Swamp Sparrow was found in almost the same spot as the first bird above on the Delaware Shore. I have more Sparrows to share like the Song Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow and a LeConte's Sparrow.. There is also the Rufous-collard Sparrow seen in the Caribbean. I have a lot more sparrows to find and id..so more Sparrow post to come later.
