The Arizona Woodpecker

The female Red-bellied Woodpecker seen on my deck railing.

The male Red-bellied Woodpecker, one of my favorite yard birds.

The Hairy Woodpecker, is a bigger bird with a larger size beak.

A Downy woodpecker on the left and a Hairy Woodpecker on the right.

Incoming a Red-bellied Woodpecker with a Downy Woodpecker on the feeder.

The Northern Flicker, looks pretty with it's speckled chest.

In another post I will share more woodpeckers from my travels to Costa Rica, Belize and Panama and various Sapsuckers.

Hubby and I for the last 35 years ( except for 5 1/2 months living in Lakeland Florida 2016-2017) are lucky to live so close to so much nature. The forest, the lake and trails are all walking distance and surround our house.  Miney loves these walks!

1. A walk on the NCR trail beginning at Freeland , we were seeing the end of the Autumn colors. I heard and saw a lot of birds, but the only birds I was able to photograph were the Pileated Woodpecker and the Red-bellied Woodpecker.

A view from the bike trail near Freeland, Maryland.

2. I love to trying to capture some moon photos, a walk with Miney on the fire road at Prettyboy.

3. The Blue Jays arrive quickly when I put out some of the peanut suet balls.

4. A walk with hubby and Miney to the Prettyboy lake. A Belted Kingfisher was perched on a log sticking out of the lake. Somehow Miney got out of her harness and ran from hubby to where I was taking photos of the lake.  She managed to get her paws all muddy from walking onto the muddy shore of the lake. Then she ran back fast to hubby, we have never let her run free.  This was her first and only chance of getting loose.

5. The peacock even on the cold days is roaming around our yard and the neighborhood, a Hawk sitting in a nearby tree. I am guessing it is a red-shouldered Hawk and a Northern Mockingbird sitting in a near by tree.

6. Our grandsons loved seeing the Peacock on Thanksgiving Day, it walked all around our yard.

7. A walk to the back part of the lake with hubby and Miney, we had a dusting of snow on this morning.

I am sharing my mish-mash of photos, our walks with Miney, my back yard birds and a visit to see our grandchildren.

Click on images for better viewing.

1. March 22nd, another walk to the Prettyboy reservoir to see the Eagles nest. Our second time to check out the nest only to find it empty again.

2. March 22nd, while we were out walking with Miney the Peacock came for a visit. Who left the gate open? The peacock was sitting on our deck railing when we got home.

3. March 25th, fire road walk with Miney to the lake

4. March 25th, the Peacock was back sitting on the swing set.

5. March 29th, my back yard birds: the Peacock, Eastern Bluebird, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Dark-eyed Junco and the White-throated Sparrow.

6. March 29th, on the NCR trail with Miney.

7. March 30th, we took Miney with us to visit with our son, DIL and our grandchildren. Winnie the Corgi had fun playing with Miney.

8. A flashback looking at a couple of my Florida favorite birds seen in a couple of favorite places.

Flashback images are from May 2015  Gatorland in Kissimmee Florida I am sharing a Cattle Egret.  There was a large breeding marsh at the Gatorland Park,  my main reason for visiting was to see all the heron and egrets in their rookery.

From March 2017, a Green Heron seen at the Circle B Preserve near Lakeland Florida.

A mish-mash of photos, birds and critters and our cute dog Miney.

1. March 10th, I was happy to see a pair of Eastern Bluebirds visiting my bird houses.  I hope to see them raising their young this season.

2. March 11th, my morning walk with Miney on the fire road. The trail is closest to my house and there are views of the reservoir.

3. March 11th, I am still seeing the pair of Eastern Bluebirds coming and going to the birdhouses.

"Your bluebird of happiness is waiting for you."

4. March 12, I am sharing my yard birds , I had a nice variety of birds like the Northern Cardinal, the Mockingbird, a Pine Warbler , the Bluebird and the Titmouse.

5. March 12th, it was a warm day in the low 70's. I was happy to see the Peacock visiting, he hasn't been seen since last fall. We were getting ready to leave to meet hubby's cousin for lunch when the Peacock started his dance in front of the car.

6. March 12th, the Red-bellied Woodpecker was able to eat some of the suet nuggets. Usually the woodpeckers are chased away by the Mockingbird.

7. March 12th, I was surprised this photo turned out ok, I wanted to get the cardinal perched but he flew off when I captured him in flight.

8. April 25th Arbor Day

Celebrate Arbor Day, plant a tree.

"He who plants a tree plants hope."

A flashback from my facebook page, from March 2016. A favorite bird is the Red-headed Woodpecker seen at the North Point State Park. I have not seen these birds since this time, they have safely moved on I hope.

A Sept 2015 flashback from the North Point SP, we saw a few Tricolored Herons, The park is more known for seeing the Little Blue Herons, it was a treat to see the Tricolored Herons.
