3.  Texture

April 10th hubby and I visited the York Pa Great Egret and Black Crowned Night Heron rookery. I thought it maybe a little early to see these birds working on their nest at the rookery, I counted at least 14 egrets and maybe 4 Night Herons.

For Tex's Good Fences meme I have an overall view of the lake and Rookery in York Pennsylvania.

1. Great Egrets were hunted for their plumes nearly to extinction in the early 1900's. Luckily laws were created to protect these birds. The Egret below is one of my favorite photos for my Friday's Hunt.

2. Not bird related, one morning while watching "The View" I heard Donny Osmond say he has been performing for nearly 50 years. Donny's deput was on the Andy Williams Show in 1962. I would have been 6 yrs old, this makes me feel old, LOL. Do you remember the Andy Williams Show and the Donny and Marie Osmond show?

3. A fun fact about the Egret, during their breeding season they have a patch of neon green near show up on their faces near their eyes.

For Teresa's Friday's hunt I think the features on the Egret above is great for the prompt Texture.

4. I just read this fact about the Black Crowned Night Heron seen below. A breeding Night Heron will brood any chick that placed in it's nest.

For Good Fences and for Skywatch Friday I have the pretty sky above and my moon addiction photo below.

5. On April 10th I was able to catch the waxing crescent moon and the star Aldebaran close by. Can you see the tiny star near the moon in my photo? The star is just a tiny dot near the bottom right side of the photo.  BTW, for Teresa's Friday's Hunt this is also my favorite photo for the week.

Saint Augustine, Florida

Linking up with Skywatch Friday  and Good Fences

Happy Easter & Happy Passover to all that celebrate!

Hello,  it's time for sharing some Skywatch photos for Skywatch Friday and some fence scenes for Tex's Good Fences memes. These images are from our Florida trip and visit to Saint Augustine. We climbed the 219 steps to the top of the Saint Augustine Lighthouse. The views from the top were beautiful and I could look down at the Wood Stork rookery at the nearby Alligator Farm..

Happy Summer!!

I am linking up Camera Critters and I'd-Rather-b-birdin I hope you will join in on the fun and share your critters and birds.

Last weekend hubby and I made a second visit to the York, Pa rookery. We saw the chicks of the Black Crowned Night Herons and the Great Egrets.

A Great Egret with at least two chicks.

I think this large group of Mallard Ducks were just fed by someone walking by.

A large group of Canada Geese were also treated to some goodies.

Another cute Egret chick!

This cute bunny was running around on the grass beneath the pine trees where the herons and egrets are nesting.

I watched the bunny for a while, it came close to my feet and started rolling in the dirt. It was so cute.

I loved seeing the herons and the egrets but the bunny stole the show for me. It was adorable. I hope you enjoyed  my visit to the rookery and my cute critter.

I notice other bloggers sharing some of their favorite blogs to read, today I decided to do the same. I am randomly  selecting these blogs and they will change on new post each weekend. I hope you take a chance to visit with some of these wonderful bloggers from around the world.

The Rookery

I am linking up Camera Critters and I'd rather-b-birdin

These shots are from a few weekends ago, hubby and I visited the rookery in York Pa. It is not too far from where I live and I like to watch the progress of the heron and egrets on the nest. I've posted about visiting this rookery on previous years.

The rookery is located in these pine trees which surround a man-made lake in the middle of the city of York Pa. It is a busy place, with children playing and fishing and some people just walking the loop around the lake.

If you go there look closely in the pine trees you will see the nest. Each tree we looked into we saw the egret and heron nest. Some trees had multiple nest of both the Night Heron  and Egret.

Black Crowned Night heron above us in one of the pine trees.

This Night Heron was walking on the branches in the tree just above our heads.

The Night Herons are another one of my favorites.

There is something cool about the BC Night Heron's eye.

The lake had these huge fish, they looked about the size of the night heron. Ok, maybe not that big , but they were BIG.

For more cuteness, how about this family of ducks. Have you ever seen a family of 16 ducklings? They were also in the lake with the huge fish, Mallard ducks and Canada Geese.

It was fun watching the Night Heron fly back and forth across the lake. I think they were finding more sticks for their nest.

I hope you enjoyed my critter post. I hope everyone has a happy weekend. Thanks for stopping by and I always appreciate your comments. To see more beautiful photos and cute critters

The Rookery

I am linking up with World Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

These are some shots from my visit to the local Black-Crowned Night Heron and Great Egret Rookery. It is cool that the rookery is not far from where I live. So I get a chance to go and visit and see how the herons and egrets are doing. This rookery is in the middle of a Pennsylvania neighborhood. The park has a man-made lake. People are always about.... walking the path around at the lake and fishing. The rookery has been there for years and the birds do not seem to mind all the people being around them. We did see the notice stating it was a (IBA) important bird area.

The Great Egret nest are way high up in the top of some pine trees. I could make out one of the egret chicks. A fuzzy ball of cuteness.

In the same pine trees are the Black Crowned Night Heron nest. Their chicks seemed to be making big progress and growing fast.

. The Night herons chicks were a little more hidden in the pine tree branches. You can make out their darker brown body with white spots and a little of the yellow on its bill.

I was concerned about this juvie Night Heron when I noticed its bill looks crossed. I hope it is able to eat. At least it does look healthy.

This Night heron juvie with the crossed bill was walking around on the ground and then decided he wanted to climb the tree. We were a good distance away. There were about 25 or more Canada Geese on the ground below the tree and between us and the tree with the juvie heron.

The pine trees surround the lake and there must be a night heron or egret nest in every one of the trees. Above is one of the Great Egret nest.

I hope you enjoyed my World Birds this week. To see more wonderful birds check out Springman's World Bird Wednesday  and for more nature post visit Michelle's  Nature Notes

Thanks to Springman and to Michelle our great host each week. Also, thank you for visiting my blog and post. I hope the rest of your week is great and Happy Birding.

Black Crowned Night Heron

My entry for Bird Photography Weekly click on my link to see more great bird photography.

And my entry for Mary's Mosaic Monday  click on link to see more wonderful mosaics!

Every couple of weeks, I try to make a visit to the Black Crowned Night Heron rookery. It is not far from my house, which is nice. There are also a few Great Egrets nesting in the same area. The rookery is located in trees surrounding  a busy manmade lake. The neighborhood folks use the lake to fish, there are people and kids feeding the ducks and geese. The Herons and Egrets do not seem to mind people being around. As far as I know they have been using this area for a rookery for many years.

Thanks for stopping by to see my Black Crowned Night Herons and mosaic. Specials thanks to Mary of Little Red House and to Birdfreak for the Bird Photography Weekly.
