Every couple of weeks, I try to make a visit to the Black Crowned Night Heron rookery. It is not far from my house, which is nice. There are also a few Great Egrets nesting in the same area. The rookery is located in trees surrounding a busy manmade lake. The neighborhood folks use the lake to fish, there are people and kids feeding the ducks and geese. The Herons and Egrets do not seem to mind people being around. As far as I know they have been using this area for a rookery for many years.

I love the black crowned night heron ... one of my favorite birds. Wonderful shots. They nest in a neighborhood not far from us, but I never seem to time it right!
Each week you give us such a treat!
The Black Crowned Night Heron is the bird on our Naturalist group. Apparently they are around but I have never seen one. Great photos.
Great pics of the heron Eileen, one I've not seen before.
What a beautiful bird! Great shots!
Nice B&W photos! It is wonderful how you are able to get so close to the birds, Ellen.
Nice photos of an interesting bird. Some birds seem to be able to adjust to live around humans - and some unfortunately don't!
Absolutely awesome photographs of such a beautiful bird! Thanks for sharing!
Happy I found your blog!
Nancy
Love your photos. Several shots almost seem like there is a slouch in the "shoulders." Giving your photos of the heron a very humanized touch. I love birds. You have a new follower:)
We have blue herons here but I have never seen any like yours. Wow.
Now that would be a most fascinating place to visit.Your pictures are great.I enjoyed the visit.

Is there such a thing as "tamed" birds? Your shots are really gorgeous, so close to capture!
Nice collection on your mosaic!

I saw some of those at an outdoor museum here but didn't know what they were. I'm so glad to find out!
Great mosaic.
WOW! Fabulous shots!
I don't think I have ever seen one of these before. You captured a great shot of his face!
Best wishes for a great week,
Natasha.
I don't think we have them around here in New England. We have plenty of great blue herons though. they look so majestic.
I love your clematis in the header.

Very cool, Eileen. I used to think they didn't live here in Ontario but have recently learned how wrong I was!
A beautiful bird! Thanks for sharing.
I wonder if I ever have seen such a bird ! Looks like a punk,on the last picture, lol !
Very nice photos. I haven't seen a black crowned night heron yet, but as it happens my photos this week are of a green heron in a tree. I find all herons fascinating -- they are so primeval-looking.
Great photos of these birds.

Wow! This is the place to visit for the most exciting bird and wildlife photos! I always enjoy stopping by to visit with you! I get to see birds that I would otherwise never see and learn about.
I thought herons are thin birds. Thanks for the lesson.
Wonderful shots of the Heron!
Your shots of the heron are wonderful, Eileen. He poses well for the camera.
Wow, what a wonderful place! And you got some amazing pictures, Eileen! :)
it was nice to see that heron. We only have the grey heron over here.
