Saturday's Critters # 398

 Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Hubby and I have recently visited the Great Falls National Park near Potomac Md. We make it a day trip, stopping at a local French bakery for a sandwich for our little picnic. We also stop at Riley's Lock and walk along the C&O Canal trail.

1. Below are photos of the Potomac River @ Great Falls NP, the C&O Canal trail @ Great Falls, Great Blue Heron, Canal Lock, Canal, Mallard, Black Vultures and Turkey Vultures.

2. A view of the C&O Canal and the trail.

3. There is a Great Blue Heron rookery or is it called a heronry, so there are plenty of Herons to see at the Great Falls @ Potomac River.

4. A mix of Black Vulture are seen with their Black Head and the Turkeys Vultures have the red heads.

5. I always enjoy seeing the Great Blue Herons, they pose so nicely for me and my camera.

6. Below are some of the scenes and wildlife we saw along the C&O Canal trail at Riley's Lock.  A group of Wood Ducks, a Common Whitetail Skimmer, more Wood Ducks, Great Blue Heron, Zebra Swallowtail butterfly, Prothonotary Warbler, Black-crowned Night Heron, Slider Turtles, Black-crowned Night Heron.

7.  A few Slider Turtles hanging out with the Wood Ducks.

8.  The Red-eared Slider Turtles are non-native but the Eastern Painted Turtle is a native turtle seen in Maryland.  Below the photo could be a mix of both of the native and non-native turtles.

9. I usually see a Green Heron in this area, but on this day I saw the Black-crowned Night Herons.

10. A Common Whitetail Skimmer above the pond and duck weed.

11. A closer look at the Wood Ducks.

12. A Great Blue Heron was seen on the canal side hunting for food.

I hope you enjoyed our walk at the park and on the canal trail, the birds and wildlife are always great to see.

I want to share my cute grandson, he is growing quickly almost 6months old. He has two bottom teeth now. I think this is the first time he tried a teething biscuit.

Saturday's Critters #90

Saturday's Critters #90

Happy Labor Day weekend!

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.  On my previous post I shared just the Little Blue Herons, during our visit there were many more birds to be seen at this park. I am sharing some more of the birds and turtles seen during our visit to the North Point State Park.

One of the many Ospreys we saw during our visit to the park.

There was a family of Ospreys, above I captured three Ospreys on this one dead tree.

One of the many Great Blue Herons also seen at the park.

We also saw 4-5 Tricolored Herons, this one was right above us as we walked down the trail.

It may be hard to see all three Tricolored Herons, but they are all in this on one dead tree near the trail.

I was able to zoom in on the face of this Tri-colored Heron.

Above is the male Common Whitetail Dragonfly.

One of the many slider turtles we saw on this day. I hope you enjoyed our visit to the park and my birds and critters. Thank you for stopping by and for your nice comments. As always I appreciate everyone who is linking up to my Saturday's Critter party.  Have a great weekend!

Saturday's Critters #31

Saturday's Critters #31

I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July yesterday and is having a great holiday weekend!

It's that time to share your critters. I hope to see you join in with the Saturday Critter Party. I have some more photos from our last weekend walk along George's Creek. The creek and trail is just  a short drive from our house..

These pretty dayliles are along the creek..For the last three weekends hubby and I have gone back to the same trail for a walk, the daylilies are blooming and look beautiful.

 The Great Blue Heron fishing..

 A family of Wood Ducks..

I am not sure if this is Great-Crested Flycatcher, Wood PeWee or the Eastern Phoebe. I was hearing all three calling..

I believe this is the female Common Whitetail Dragonfly. The male would have the white tail. Besides birds I enjoy taking photos of any kind of wildlife that includes dragonflies.

Noushka's blog has some amazing dragonfly shots.  You should check her blog..

I am not sure of this dragonfly id, any help is appreciated.

Hubby and I sat and watched the Heron and Wood Ducks hoping that the Bald Eagles from the previous week would make an appearance..while having a rest I did enjoy listening to the Wood Thrushes.

This video is for the bird songs and not photos.

I hope you enjoyed my post this week.  Thank you for linking up to the critter party. I appreciate the visits, comments and the support of my blogging friends.. Have a happy weekend!

Around the yard, Aug 17

August 17, 2013

I am linking up Camera Critters and I'd-Rather-b-birdin   I hope you are joining in and posting your birds and critters.

The head of the family..the male Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

When I come home from work I can whistle after putting out some peanuts on my deck railing and the Redbellied Woodie immediately shows up.

The White-Breasted Nuthatch prefers the sunflower seeds or the suet. Above he/she landed on my pergola is waiting for me to put out more seed and go inside.

Above is the Red-spotted Purple butterfly. This butterfly has red spots on its underside and at the top of its wings.

Goldie Girl enjoys fetching sticks at the lake.

Goldie Girl waiting for a stick to be thrown.

I am trying to learn the dragonfly id's. So I believe my dragonfly is the female Common Whitetail.

And  I am guessing on this to be the Blue Dasher.I hope you enjoyed my birds, butterfly, dragonflies and of my Goldie Girl.

I want to share some of my favorite bloggers some live and work hard on their farms.

C&O Canal Critters

Happy Weekend...I am linking up with Camera Critters

These are a few of the birds and critters hubby and I saw while walking on the C&O canal trail in Potomac, Md.

The Slider turtles are always seen on a sunny day at the canal.

We watched this Horned Grebe on the Potomac River side of the C&O Canal trail.

The Common Whitetail or known as long-tailed skimmer is a common dragonfly seen across North America

A Double-Crested Cormorant.. there is a nesting colony of Cormorants on the Potomac River. So they are a common bird to see along the river.

I hope you enjoyed my birds and critters for the Camera Critter post. The C&O Canal trail is a great place to walk and see all kinds of birds and critters. We saw so much I will split my walk into two posts.

To see more cute and wonderful critters check out Misty Dawn's Camera Critters
Thanks to Misty for hosting and thanks to everyone for stopping by to see my post. Have a safe and HAPPY weekend.
