Saturday's Critters # 621

As usual I am still behind sharing photos.  I am sharing a variety of photos. They are from my walks with Miney, our back yard birds and fire road walks.

1. I wish the hummingbirds were still here, but these photos are Sept 13th. I was looking out for my Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. I like to record the last back yard sighting of the hummers. My last hummingbird sighting was Sept 29th. 

Same day I am looking for the fall time warblers arriving in my back yard.  They do love the berries on the Devil's Walking Stick plant. Below is the Tennessee Warbler. 

Again the same day, below is the Cape May Warbler. It is one of the more common warblers I have been seeing at the berries.  

2. Sept 14th, my walk with Miney on the local fire road.  

The Cape May Warblers continue to be seen eating the berries.

It's not often we see a colorful sunset but this day ended quite colorful. 

3. Sept 15th, a quick walk with Miney.  

4. Sept 17th, the Peacock is sitting on top of our swing. 

5. Sept 18th, we leave early in the morning for hubby's Dialysis treatment on this morning I heard a Screech Owl calling near the end of our driveway. Later in the day I notice the the Hummingbird sitting on a metal butterfly near the feeder. 

Sept 19, a walk with Miney to the lake, a few trees looking colorful.  

7. I am sharing flashback photos of past year backyard Warblers.  Below is the Black-throated Blue Warbler, it is another warbler that loves the berries. I saw this bird this year outside my den window.

I am sharing various images from our local walks, I never know what we will see on our walks. I always take some photos of whatever I see, mostly anything nature related. 

1. May 9th I have photos from our walk to the lake with the dogs and some more of my back yard birds. In the mosaic are the grand-dogs, a view of our lake, Canada Geese, a Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher on the nest, A Baltimore Oriole half hidden in the leaves, Mallard Ducks, more dog photos and a wild azalea. 

2. The Blue-gray Gnatcatcher is seen and heard in our forest. I found this one on a nest near our lake. 

3.  May 7th, I've been seeing the Scarlet Tanagers all around our yard also on the same day I saw the American Redstart in our back yard. I think they were enjoying our pond and catching bugs to eat. 

4. The male American Redstart was hanging out in the back part of our yard.

5. May 10th, our back yard birds. The Scarlet Tanager is being seen just about every day, another Northern Parula and the Red-bellied Woodpecker. 

6. May 10th a larger view of the male Scarlet Tanager, he is a beauty.

He sat in the dead tree in our yard, that we left for the woodpeckers. 

7. May 11th, our walk on the fire road a Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly , Pink Lady Slippers, Winnie the Corgi, Scarlet Tanager and a Blue-throated Blue Warbler. 

8. May 12th, our morning walk to the lake with dogs, we saw a fishing boat, the Canada Geese, Solitary Sandpiper and a Black Vulture. 

9. May 15th, another walk on the fire road with the grand-dogs. Another sighting of the Scarlet Tanager and back in my yard a wet Tufted Titmouse. 

10. May 16th,  Photos from our morning walk to the lake with the dogs. Near the lake we saw some wild azaleas in bloom, an Osprey and some unknown pink wildflowers. 

11. May 17th, our walks continue some times without the dogs. On this day hubby and I took a walk to see the Bald Eagles nest at the lake. We saw two Eaglets and the Bald Eagle couple all on the nest. Other birds seen were the Ovenbird and the Eastern Kinglets. We heard multiple Hooded Warblers calling while we walked on the fire road.

1.  May 2nd,  hubby and I went birding and looking for wildflowers at the Susquehanna State Park. These images are from the picnic area and the pond. The Eastern Bluebirds were catching bugs in the grass, guessing at Rough-winged Swallows, Slider Turtles at the pond, Robins, Cardinal couple, Gray Catbird, Yellow Warbler and a Canada Geese family. 

2. May 2,  our timing was a little off for seeing more of the wildflowers along the Susquehanna River trail. We did see some of the Bluebells and the Trillium. Also seen at the Conowingo Dam area were the Ospreys, Bald Eagles, Double-crested Cormorants, Great Blue heron with Eagle, Yellow-rumped Warbler and a Spotted Sandpiper. 

3. May 2nd  at the Susquehanna River below the dam, we could see lots of the Bald Eagles and the Great Blue Herons have a rookery in this spot too.

4. May 2nd , Susquehanna River below the dam is a little island in the middle of the river. That is where the Great Blue Heron rookery is located. 

5. May 3rd, our local walk to the lake with the dogs, hubby is ahead with me following along with Winnie the Corgi, unknown plant with flower, Canada Geese, Gray Catbird, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Solitary Sandpiper and Double-crested Cormorants on the lake.

6. May 3rd, I saw a Black-throated Blue Warbler a few times near the lake. 

7. May 3rd, I am guessing this is a Solitary Sandpiper, seen along the George's Creek. 

8.  May 4th, a walk with the dogs on the local fire road, we saw a few Pink Lady Slippers starting to bloom. 

9. May 5th, George's Creek at Prettyboy Reservoir. We saw the White-eyed Vireo, Red-winged Blackbirds, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, various wildflowers, Slider Turtles, Yellow-rumped Warbler, view of the reservoir.

10.  May 6th, a rainy day and I was able to catch some birds just outside my windows.  The top two photos are the Veery , seen on the driveway. The Veery has returned to our forest, I love the sound they make. The bottom images are the Scarlet Tanager, it was seen in a pine tree in my back yard. 

A bonus this weekend, a photo of my grandchildren celebrating Memorial Day.

I am sharing more recent yard birds and birds seen on our local fire road walks to the lake. I was seeing migrant warblers in my yard for most of September. They love the Devil's Walking Stick berries. Photos were taken from my windows, it is nice to see these birds without having to travel somewhere. 

I may be away from my computer but I will be visiting everyone who has linked up a post and those who leave me a comment as soon as possible.  Thank you always for participating and loving all the critters. 

1. Below male and female Cape May Warblers, guessing the bottom row is a Tennessee Warbler and far right is a male Black-throated Blue Warbler. 

2. I know these photos and birds all look familiar, but they are new photos I have not posted previously. I have been seeing the Cape May Warblers at these berries every day for weeks. Some times there are 4-5 Cape May Warblers chowing down berries.  

3. The photos below are from one of our morning walks to the lake, we saw 2-3 Great Blue Herons, Double-crested Cormorant, Green Heron and the Belted Kingfisher can be found in the same spot almost daily. 

3-A   I was able to catch the Belted Kingfisher with the Green Heron hanging out on the same tree. The Green Heron is a little hidden, can you find it below?

4. A little further drive away is one of my favorite county parks, we do a loop hike around the park. We saw a large flock of Blackbirds, maybe Grackles, a group of Cedar Waxwings were also flying across the park. A Gray Catbird, Finches, Downy Woodpecker and a visit to the park's raptor center. 

5. Back in my yard, the male and female Black-throated Blue Warblers were being seen eating the berries.  During the month of September I could not pass my windows without looking out and seeing Warblers eating these berries. 

5-A.  The Black-throated Blue Warbler , it is 4-5 inches in length. The male is blue above with white underneath and has a black throat, face and sides. The female is a brown-olive color and has the white spot on it's wing, my photo of the female is on the top left above. 

6.   Living so close to the reservoir, their are days we take a ride around the lake to see the dam. On this day there was a small group of Canada Geese and a group of Double-crested Cormorants. 

7. A group of Double-crested Cormorants seen swimming in the reservoir near the dam bridge. 

8. A view of our lake during one of our early morning walks, we saw the steam fog rising over the lake. 

An added extra, our grandson Wyatt not a critter but very cute.

Saturday's Critters # 390

Can you believe, it is the first Saturday of June. Time is flying by, I am hoping to see some birds flying into or around my yard.  These are some birds I have seen recently during our local walks.

1.  The end of April, I watched the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds coming and going to the feeder.

2. May 3rd, may have been my last sighting of the Red-breasted Nuthatch for the year.  

3. May 10th , I watched a female Black-throated Blue Warbler out my front window.  This view is from my exercise bike, I can watch various birds hopping around the rhododendrons and front yard. 

It is not the best photo taken out the window, these warblers move quickly. The female has a white arc under the eye and a little white wing patch.

4. May 16th, we took a walk on the local NCR bike trail. We saw a couple of Worm-eating Warblers chasing each other along the trail.

This warbler has a head stripe with black eye line and stripes on the buffy head.

5. I have been seeing bunnies in the back and front yard. I think the baby bunnies have grown quickly, but these two maybe the parents. 

6. The Tufted Titmouse is a year round visitor to my yard.  

7.  At our local Prettyboy Dam, the Cliff Swallows can be seen nesting under the dam bridge and flying over the reservoir.  

8. On another day we took a local walk on our fire road and to the lake. near the lake shore I saw a first year Baltimore Oriole, a first time seeing a Blackburnian Warbler in my neighborhood, a Red-eyed Vireo is bottom left, Canada Geese and some large Slider Turtles. 

9.  Not the best lighting looking up in the tree at this Blackburnian Warbler. 

I hope you enjoyed my yard and neighborhood birds.  Other birds I heard nearby but I was not able to take photos yet are: Ovenbird, Wood Thrush, unknown Thrush, Gray Catbird and the male Black-throated Blue Warbler, Indigo Bunting and the Scarlet Tanager.
