Our World, My World

 Hello, Happy Monday everyone!

This is what's happening in my world, LOL nothing too exciting. We are healthy and safe, that's important.  If we are not driving to a local park we can be found hanging out at home,  around the yard or enjoying a walk on the near by fire road.

Our plants on the deck are still blooming nicely. From my dining window I can watch the hummers at the red Salvia and they love the Lantana. The Basil did not do well but we are enjoying the Rosemary, Sage, Thyme and Parsley which are all kind of hidden by the blooms in front.

In the distance are the butterfly bushes and a little further back in front of the pine trees is the devils walking stick tree.

The Crepe Myrtle is looking pretty on the top left, the Spirea top middle photo has made a come back after being smashed by a pine tree falling. The Morning Glory, top right is growing nicely along the fence. I am still seeing a few Hummingbirds at my feeders.   The photos at the hummingbird feeders always look the same.

Various images of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, I am still seeing 2-3 of these cute birds in my yard.  I will miss them when they all leave and head south.

The morning glories are growing well on the fence.

There has been a few times I looked out my window and watched this Eastern Wood PeWee in the back of our yard. It would fly up once in a while catch a bug and then go back and sit on the same branch.

The Crepe Myrtle has pretty blooms, blooms that attract bugs and the bugs are food for the birds.

Images are from our recent walk on the local fire road, the sun looked pretty shining through the trees, me and my shadow and an Ovenbird was watching us.

Seen on Sept 5, the Ovenbird is a breeder in our local forest, I have seen and heard many these Ovenbirds all summer long.

Me and my shadow are taking a walk on our local fire road.

A view of the fire road and forest.

We are hanging in there,  happy and healthy.   I hope everyone is safe, happy and healthy.

Our World, My World

 Hello everyone,

We are pretty much doing the same thing here, staying safe and close to home.  We are taking our walks of different local fire roads.  I have a mish-mash of photos, taken during our walks or from around the yard.

I do have a happy news update: hubby and I are going to be grandparents, congrats to my son Brian and DIL Allie. Baby Wise is due in February.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird seem at the Salvia plant.

Flowers, bird and butterflies  seen around our yard: the Purple Coneflowers, Upright Fuchsia,  Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, grape tomato plant.

The Purple Coneflowers and the bees are a happy sight.

I've been seeing the Brown Thrasher around the yard, sometimes it is near the blueberry bushes.

On the fire road, another bird watcher, Chipping Sparrow, Ruby-throated Humminbird silhouette, Male Northern Cardinal, the fire road, Cedar Waxwing, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, Gray Catbird and possible Thistle.

It is nice our walk was mostly in the shade on the fire road.

We are finding a few mushrooms or fungi along the fire roads.

I like checking out our flowers and plants in the yard.  Our potted plants have to be watered often, it seems like the rain goes around us. This Upright Fuchsia is doing well, lots of blooms.

The butterfly bushes are attracting a lot of different butterflies.  Below are the Black Swallowtail butterflies.

The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly seem to be doing well this year.

Hubby and I are remaining safe and virus free. Maryland Covid cases are on the decline. On the day I typed this post,  the numbers for positive Covid cases in my state have been below 4% for the last 6 days.  I hope everyone stays safe, happy and healthy.

Our World, My World

 Hello everyone!

Happy August! Another month gone, July went by much too quickly.  Summer is going too fast for me. Here we are again taking another walk on the local fire road and to the lake.  Below are some Tiger Lilies, the fire road, the reservoir, Snapping Turtle and a Turkey Vulture.

Our walk and trail ends here, a nice view of the reservoir.  At this spot I could hear two Yellow-billed Cuckoos. One sounded close but I could not find it among all the trees and leaves.

This Snapping Turtle surfaced on top of the lake, he looked huge to me.

Some scenes from around the yard, our butterfly bushes are blooming and I am seeing the Clearwing Hummingbird Moths.

Black Swallowtail butterflies are seen at the butterfly bushes.

Leaves are a changing already?

Our neighbor has a pretty Mimosa Tree, we pass this tree on the way to the lake. The butterflies and hummingbirds love the Mimosa blooms.

Back in 1990 we had this beautiful Mimosa tree in our back yard. At times it was filled with so many butterflies it looked like the branches were alive and moving.  We lost this tree, apparently they do not grow well in our area..We now have a Redbud tree growing in this same spot.

My world is quiet, we spend some time taking our walks with nature. I am trying out some new recipes,  I found found a quick way to dry herbs in the microwave.  I like the smell of sage right after it has been dried.  I hung some new curtains, I am doing the usual cleaning, blogging and reading my books.  We are doing well.  Take care and stay safe, happy and healthy.

Happy Thankful Thursday!

Hello,

Happy July everyone!!   🌝

Can you believe it's July already?  Today is my sister's birthday, Happy Birthday Sis!

I have a mish mash of photos to share!   One day we ordered carry-out from the local family style restaurant. We are trying to support our local businesses. One of the photos is from the restaurant, their pond and grounds.  I also have a pretty Scarlet Tanager seen during a walk and I sharing some back yard  flowers.

Leaving the Friendly Farms restaurant, it was a pretty sky day..

While walking on the local fire road , the male Scarlet Tanager landed almost right next to me at eye level.  I think the female and a youngster were near by too.

Do you ever feel the need for a mental health day?  Relieve stress and take some "me" time.

Spirea each year it blooms even more, if that is possible.

"Put your heart, mind and soul into even your smallest acts, this is the secret of success".

I am thankful for the flowers, they make our yard so colorful and pretty.

The Upright Fuchsia is growing well, hubby's green thumb kept this plant alive from last year.  It is an annual in our zone.

Another Fuchsia  that hubby's green thumb saved from last summer.  It has lots of blooms and the hummingbirds love it.

The Bee Balm is doing very well, we have to keep this area of the garden behind wire or the groundhogs would just eat all our flowers.

Some waterlilies in our small pond and more of the Stella D'oro lilies.

I am thankful for each and every day, we never know when the time is up!! Chuck Berry

Blooms below in our yard and in our pond the waterlilies are blooming nicely, Stella D'oro lilies, Red Salvia, Upright Fuchsia, Bee Balm and my favorite Lantana. The bees, birds and butterflies love all these blooms.

Life is like a flower, Comes like a bud, Goes like a shower, Petals are shattered, All that's left is our friends indeed. So is a man with a short life span, So cherish each day. Words by Kael

I am only updating this info for my future reference, a Maryland Covid update: as of Jun 28th, 2020 Maryland has in total  66,777 positive cases and 3,042 people have died. Fewer people are being hospitalized, it was down by 32. It is best if you want to stay safe and healthy, wear the mask in public areas and keep the 6ft distance..

I hope everyone is safe, happy and healthy! I am always thankful hubby and I are both well!

Live simple and be happy!  😊 Take care, keep smiling!

Happy Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday everyone,

I wanted to share more Spring scenes from around my yard.  The trees are still blooming, the birds are chirping, the bleeding heart is blooming and the azaleas are looking pretty.

I am thankful for Spring blossoms.

A look at the dogwood and the redbud trees from side of our yard.

Images from the deck and around the back yard, side yard and the front.

"My favorite weather is bird chirping weather."

The Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee and the Pine Warbler love the suet.

The male Northern Cardinal loves the sunflower seeds.

A view of the forest from our deck.

The azaleas are looking pretty.

The blueberry bushes  and the bleeding hearts are blooming.  The bees are happy..

I am thankful for the pollinators, the happy bees.

This is the view out our kitchen window.

I am thankful hubby and I are staying virus-free. I pray everyone is feeling good, stay safe and calm.

Some of my favorite book finished last week are:
Devonshire Scream by Laura Childs in the Tea Shop Mystery series.
The Mapping of Love and Death by Jacqueline Winspear in the Maisie Dobbs series.

Our World, My World

 Happy Monday everyone!

Stay Healthy, Stay Hopeful and Stay Strong!!

Happy Earth Day!!!

April is rolling along quickly, our weather has been crazy. The temperatures this month are up and down, tornado watches, snow, heavy rain, wind and frost  If you wait a minute the weather will change. The trees are blossoming and looking beautiful. For some reason my neighborhood is way behind other nearby areas with bloom time in our state. I am happy to see the dayliles, irises, bushes, plants and trees all seem to be off to a great start.

April 14th, I am still seeing some of my winter yard birds along with the summer birds.  The 3 birds together, are the WT SParrow, male Northern Cardinal with a House Finch, a lone Northern Cardinal. Bottom are the  Hairy Woodpecker and another WT SParrow.

Some scenes from around the yard, maple tree, creeping phlox, blooming Dogwood and Redbud trees.

The Japanese Maple trees in the front yard are turning a pretty red.

The Creeping Phlox is looking pretty.

My yard birds seen on April 14th, an American Goldfinch male in his pretty summer colors, a winter Dark-eyed Junco, a winter White-throated Sparrow and a male House Finch.

I love the curly ferns, they will be open soon.

I have quite a few Chipping Sparrows in my yard, they are sweet birds.

The dogwood and the Redbud trees are blooming and looking pretty.

The Dogwood blooms are pretty, one of my favorite trees.

I pray everyone is healthy and remains safe. Take care.
