Saturday's Critters # 413

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

During our recent New York, we stayed in a B&B located in Geneseo and we found some nice restaurants near the Conesus Lake. One morning we took a short walk at a lakeside park.

1. Conesus Lake is considered one of the minor Finger Lakes, it is 8 miles long and 1 mile wide. The lake supplies water to Avon and Geneseo.

2. The Red-breasted Nuthatch was seen in one of the trees on the trail next to the lake.

3. There were groups of Mallard ducks, Common Mergansers and Gulls around the lake.

4.  Views of the trail and Conesus lake, flowers gardens and a fish sculpture with a water feature.

5. Mendon Pond Park, Monroe County NY.

6.  Along the birdsong trail, we saw the cute fairy homes, bird blinds and benches. The birds are used to people feeding them along this trail, the Chickadee and Nuthatches were flying towards us as we walked. One time a chickadee almost landed on my camera.

7. Located at the Mendon Ponds Park is Wild Wings a home for permanently injured birds that are non-releasable.  We saw various species of Owls, like the Barn Owl, Snowy Owls, Long-eared Owls, Screech Owl, Saw-whet Owl, Osprey, various Hawks, Bald Eagles, Turkey Vultures,  Bobcat and they had a very vocal Raven.

8. Help your native raptors.

9. Below are the Barn Owl, Snowy Owl, Long and Short-eared Owls and the Barred Owls.

Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Beautiful photos of all the birds. The Owl is a special bird. I loved to see the bobcat. Here in Norway we also have a big cat out in the forest. It's named Lynx lynx. It's a rare animal to see, and it's very bashful.

  12. Hello Eileen,:=) Your photos of the Conesus lake are beautiful, as are the creatures you saw in the vicinity, like the Red breasted Nuthatch,... a lovely shot. Pretty pictures of the park. Nuthatches and Chickadees are confiding birds, and will eat out of your hand if you feed them seeds.

"Wild Wings Home" is in what seems to be in a quiet secluded place. It's splendid that this kind of Facility exists to care for birds with injured wings. but rather sad to see so many Owls, and other birds of prey in cages.

Sweet pictures of Wyatt, and Grand dogs. Have a Happy Saturday Eileen and thank you for hosting.:=)

  14. There is always a sense of sadness when seeing birds of prey confined to cages, living an artificial life. For many humans though, it is doubtless their only contact with these creatures. Wyatt is a healthy young boy. I hope his parents (and grandparents) are already introducing him to nature.

  17. WoW, what a beautiful place to visit, especially this time of year, glad you had an enjoyable time! Like everyone, I feel badly the animals can't be free, but as you know, many times they use them as ambassadors to teach about conservation, etc., and spark interest in their care.

  19. Hello Eileen. You found another lovely park to explore and to bring back super photos. It's a shame to see so many injured owls and raptors. If the centre is unable to release them it's good that the public is able to see them up close and to appreciate their real worth in today's world. My, how little Wyatt is shooting up. Thanks for the link today 😊.

We've several rescue centres nearby. They work so hard to release them. It is useful, methinks, to use them in PR if they have to be kept safe and are unreleasable. Do you financially support any, or do they get government dollars? Our do not, which is why we support one near us.

  26. Hi Eileen, Wow, so many neat pictures ... I could comment all day. :-) First things first ... Wyatt is so cute! What a blessing to your family. Next ... I just admire your collages more and more. When I click on your images they are nice and large on my screen. You have figured out the right size and resolution for posting online. Lastly ... in image #5, Mendon Pond Park, I see the painted rocks. This is something new to me. I recently found some painted rocks along my daily walk at our waterfront. I am still looking for a website where people say where they found painted rocks and if they have placed them in a new location to be found by others. Just another aspect of the internet I would never have anticipated. :-) Thanks, as always, for sharing. Wishing you and your family happy days ahead! John

I am so glad you are now able to travel a little and see all the birds you love. i once visited a place like this with all the wildlife that is injured and can't live in the wild.
