Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive Part II

Hello,

I wanted to share some more photos from our visit to the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. It was a pretty day weather wise and a beautiful sky, lots of birds and a few gators.

For Tex's Good Fences, the entrance sign at the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. I am not sure what these grasses in front of the sign are called, but they are pretty.

A view of the lake and sky.

A cute Pied billed Grebe

Red Shouldered Hawk

Great Egret

The Great Blue Heron with his dinner, same bird and fish as in my last post. It took a while for the heron to eat this fish. This heron walked around for awhile turning the fish around different ways in his mouth before it was finally swallowed.

Sunrise from the neighborhood.

As always, I hope you enjoyed my photos. Thank you for your visit and comments on my post. Enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!

Here is a list of linky parties for part of the week, I hope to see you there.

Thanks to Theresa @ The Run*A*Round Ranch for hosting Good Fences.
Thank you to Sylvia, Yogi and Sandy for hosting Skywatch Friday.

Hello Eileen. Wonderful birds and beautiful skies for your visit to the lake. The hawk is just beautiful in that early morning sun. What an interesting name of Apopka - is that native Indian origin?

Gorgeous photos, Eileen! Looks like a beautiful place!

Beautiful sky colours. The grass? Could it be Japanese wind grass or Gossamer Grass? We have them here, the red feathery ends wave so gently in the wind.

Beautiful shots! I don't know what that grass is in the first photo, but I like it!

Hawks are always so noble.

I've seen great blue herons mess with their food before. I have always wondered what the deal is. It is like they are trying to figure out what to do with it.

it is wonderful in the US that you can just drive and go into parks of whatever it is you want to see. It is a great difference here. But yes i love those purple grasses in front of the gate, more than the birds, haha sorry about that. As i am not much of a birder. Happy Weekend Eileen.

Hi Eileen, Once again it is hard to pick a favorite out of your pictures as they are all so good. I'm going to have to choose 3 this time: the Red Shouldered Hawk, the Great Egret, and the last photo of the sky ... beautiful! Thanks for sharing, as always. Wishing you a happy weekend ahead!

Beautiful post. The grass in front of that fence entrance is really pretty. Love the pink color. - Nice place to see some cool birds. Enjoyed the Heron eating it's catch and the shot of the hawk.

A beautiful set of various beautiful pictures such as silver and blue heron and a great buzzard! The little grebe is also very nice.
The last picture of the sky is beautiful !!!

Lois said...

Gorgeous photos! I have a pair of those Red Shouldered Hawks living in the woods behind my house and unfortunately they like to sit on my fence which scares the other birds away.

September Violets said...

Beautiful shots Eileen! I had to go back and see the blue heron & fish in your previous post ... amazing! What a great shot of the heron wrestling with such a large fish! I've only seen herons eat tiny little fish, no bigger than a few inches and very slender (or frogs). Poor bird, I hope he didn't regret eating that one. Love the shot of the red-shouldered hawk too ... nice lighting on him :)
