Happy Thankful Thursday

Hello and Happy Thursday!

This  is my last post on our Finger Lakes NY trip. The Taughannock Falls SP was our third hike on this day and the last waterfall to see. This waterfalls was located in Trumansburg not far from Ithaca New York.

The Taughannock Falls is the tallest free-falling waterfall east of the Mississippi with a drop of 215 feet.  This was an easy flat trail to the bottom of the waterfalls.  We drove to the top to the waterfall overlook. The view of the falls from the overlook is the photo right below.

The stream flows into the Cayuga Lake.

The stream bed is made of limestone.

Tall cliffs were seen along the river up to the waterfall.

While hubby was soaking (not literally)  in the waterfall,  I was watching these swallows fly around the water and tall cliffs at the waterfall.

I checked the Ebird species listed for this park and there were 3 Swallow species listed, The Bank Swallow, Northern Rough-winged Swallow and the Cliff Swallow.  I am not sure which swallow I have photos of on this post. Could it be any of the swallows I listed above?

Not sure of the swallow species below, which one?  I also had a quick glimpse of a Belted Kingfisher.

I am very blessed, thankful, grateful for the opportunities I have had.

I am thankful for flat easy hikes.

am thankful for all your visits and comments.

  2. The falls are gorgeous. Steve and I must get up there some day.

Isn't always kind of special to see a kingfisher. I SAW a lot of them in Florida, but could never get one to sit still while I had my camera. As soon as I came close enough to focus in, they flew off.

  3. The middle swallow image is a Bank Swallow, Eileen. The other two could be either Bank or Northern Rough-winged. There is not enough detail in the pictures for me to be sure.

  41. I love all these photos. It's hard to pick a favourite but I think it might be the one of the birds flying high over the cliff. I hope you are keeping cool enough where you are and that your husband will enjoy his Father's Day. On Sunday here we will have Car Free Day and it means there will be no buses, hordes of people, loud music and so on near my home. I don't mind as I make sure I don't plan to go anywhere and there is a festival like atmosphere all about.

  42. Such beautiful photos. Love the waterfalls...they remind me very much of another beautiful waterfall, Toccoa Falls, in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. Love your swallow pictures as well. We do not have swallows here in Florida that I have even seen. So lovely. Thank you for sharing this beauty with us today.
