Time seems to fly by no matter what we do, these images are from late January. On Jan 19th we had about 6 inches of snow. The birds were enjoying the peanuts and suet nuggets I put out for them.
1. The Blue Jays are always first to arrive after I put out some food, they are piggies. I think they sit in trees above our yard and wait for me to come outside.
2. Our snow covered deck with a White-throated Sparrow sitting on the railing waiting for some food. The winterberries are a pop of color, ready for some birds to eat.
3. The Mockingbird has been enjoying some suet nuggets, when it is not eating it is chasing away other birds from the food.
4. Looking out my window, I noticed 2 bunnies in our side yard. I hope they are finding food the ground was covered with snow. One bunny is almost hidden on the far left. The window blinds made this photo look strange.
5. Jan 26th Prettyboy reservoir has a layer of ice on top and little section of open water where the Canada Geese were paddling around.
6. I am happy to see we have had enough rain/snow to start filling up the reservoir after last year's drought.
7. After our walk to the lake, we are home to hear the male Cardinal banging on our front window. The female is sitting back further in the rhododendron watching her mate attack his reflection in the window.
8. Hubby and I enjoy working on 1000 piece puzzles on the bad weather days. I loved this Toucan puzzle.

My latest trip has been to my archives. I usually prepare several post in advance so I will always be a month or so behind. At this time, Hubby and I have not been anywhere special due to the super cold weather or the rain/snow days. So I went back and visited previous posts, taking photos from the past 5 years during the month of February. Photos are of some of my favorite places, birds and critters.
From a February 2019 post, I was reporting on our Florida trip and visit to the Green Cay Preserve. In the mosaic are the Painted Buntings, Swamphen, a Tricolored Heron, Little Blue Heron, Palm Tree, Purple Gallinule, Green Heron, Glossy Ibis and a Pied billed Grebe. Florida is one of my favorite places for birdwatching.
Here is a larger view of the Golden Eagle. This Eagle is a dark brown with golden brown plumage on the nape. The Golden Eagle is a beautiful raptor.

These images are from the middle of January. It was our first real snow of the year. We had a week of super cold days, temps ranged from the lows teens to low twenty's. I've been putting out the peanuts in the shells and some of the suet peanut nuggets that the birds love.
1. Below are the female Downy Woodpecker, a Tufted Titmouse and the Dark-eyed Junco.
2. The Titmouse found some suet crumbs to eat.
3. The Downy Woodpecker is also enjoying some leftover suet crumbs.
4. Jan 16th was our first real storm in years. Last year we did not even have to use our shovel once. The Tufted Titmouse is one of my common yard birds. They like both the peanuts in the shell and the suet nuggets.
5. They are hungry birds when the snow is coming down.
6. The female Red-bellied Woodpecker also love the peanuts and the suet nuggets.
7. A cute photo of the Dark-eyed Junco with some snowflakes on it's beak.
8. The White-throated Sparrows are another common bird for me in the winter months.
After the snowstorm, we had a pretty sunset. We couldn't be there for our grandson's first time playing in the snow. It looks like they had a fun time!
Bonus, the grandsons celebrated both their birthdays with a joint party on Feb 3rd. Wyatt will be 3 on Feb 15th and Mason was 2 on Jan 24th. We also had an announcement they will be getting a baby sister and we will have a granddaughter. Happy Times!

Most mornings I put out some peanuts in the shells and some peanut suet nuggets for my back yard birds. The Blue Jays my most common yard bird. They arrive in large numbers making a lot of noise. They take as much as they can fit into their beaks/mouths.
1. I hope you are not tired of seeing the Blue Jays. They love to eat the peanuts and the suet peanut balls.
2. Later we took our walk on the NCR trail, we did a little shopping at the local grocery store we rode past the Friendly Farms ponds on our way home. On Jan 5th we saw a big flock of Canada Geese and various ducks on the ponds.
3. Some of the pond below has a thin layer of ice, you can see the Canada Geese are able to walk on the ice. The ducks were hanging out in a open water area of the pond.
4. A blurry view of a groups of ducks hanging out on the pond.
5. Below a nice variety of waterfowl, the male and female Buffleheads, the male and female Hooded Mergansers and an American Wigeon.
6. Who's hanging out with the American Wigeon below?
7. One of our first snows, was just a dusting. It melted quickly. Barely visible is a Blue Jay on the bottom left, eating some of the peanut nuggets.
8. The male and female Cardinals are daily visitors to my deck. They enjoy the little peanut nuggets.
