York PA Rookery

It's time to link up with Skywatch Friday  and Good Fences and Random 5 Friday and Friday's Hunt . Join in on the fun and share your post with these fun memes.

Teresa's Friday's Hunt
1. Start's with R
2. Weeks Favorite
3.  Texture

April 10th hubby and I visited the York Pa Great Egret and Black Crowned Night Heron rookery. I thought it maybe a little early to see these birds working on their nest at the rookery, I counted at least 14 egrets and maybe 4 Night Herons.

For Tex's Good Fences meme I have an overall view of the lake and Rookery in York Pennsylvania.

1. Great Egrets were hunted for their plumes nearly to extinction in the early 1900's. Luckily laws were created to protect these birds. The Egret below is one of my favorite photos for my Friday's Hunt.

2. Not bird related, one morning while watching "The View" I heard Donny Osmond say he has been performing for nearly 50 years. Donny's deput was on the Andy Williams Show in 1962. I would have been 6 yrs old, this makes me feel old, LOL. Do you remember the Andy Williams Show and the Donny and Marie Osmond show?

3. A fun fact about the Egret, during their breeding season they have a patch of neon green near show up on their faces near their eyes.

For Teresa's Friday's hunt I think the features on the Egret above is great for the prompt Texture.

4. I just read this fact about the Black Crowned Night Heron seen below. A breeding Night Heron will brood any chick that placed in it's nest.

For Good Fences and for Skywatch Friday I have the pretty sky above and my moon addiction photo below.

5. On April 10th I was able to catch the waxing crescent moon and the star Aldebaran close by. Can you see the tiny star near the moon in my photo? The star is just a tiny dot near the bottom right side of the photo.  BTW, for Teresa's Friday's Hunt this is also my favorite photo for the week.

"When it rains, look for rainbows. When it's dark, look for stars." unknown

Those egrets are lovely. You captured them so well. I think I've seen the herons at the zoo but they chose to be there and are not caged.

Oh wow your egret shots are excellent. The green around the eyes is gorgeous! I'm green with envy!
Yes I too remember the Andy Wiliams Show and his jumpers! I was more a fan of T Rex than Donny Osmond or David Cassidy. Time just flies by.
Loving the shot of the Moon and the star.
Have a great end to the week :)

Lovely shots of the birdies, Eileen.

When I was a kid in the 60s, our parents said the TV was broken. For the whole decade. Later on, I heard that might not have been exactly true...

The egrets are beautiful.

The possessive love of some to kill those beautiful birds, just so they can 'possess' them forever :(

But, I am so glad rules were put in place to protect the Egrets.

I have never seen a Black Crowned Night Heron before. I love its dual-colored plume. Love to look at it - that's all :)

Great snaps, Eileen.
Have a Happy Day!!
Peace :)

Gorgeous egrets! Yes, I do remember the Donny and Marie Osmond show. A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to see Donny and Marie live at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago. It was a wonderful performance in an amazing old theatre which was built in 1926.

A nice birding weekend

All of them great photos!
Herons always look so grouchy...
Two landscapers (out here) just went to jail with big fines for cutting down some trees that egrets were using as a rookery.

Anu said...

I remember the Osmonds, but I don’t know these tv-shows. Wonderful photos of the egrets and Black Crowned Night Heron!

the egret looks really weird in the second image. Took a while figure it out :)

Great shots of the egrets and heron Eileen! I have seen these night herons twice ... once while I was commuting to work on the train, I saw one sitting on a tree overhanging Lake Ontario. I was thrilled to see it and wanted to shout out to everyone "hey look at the heron!!". Of course I was too chicken for that ;)

Love the plumes on the egret, and you got some beautiful shots!

I don't remember Donny's debut (the year I was born), but I do remember the Donny & Marie show.

Lovely photos, Eileen! Your Egret in the strange pose is so funny! And I like the Night Crowned Heron, it's cool that she will brood any chick in her nest, that must not happen much. Your sliver of a moon is fantastic, so symmetrical, and to capture a star too is great, I like the quote as well.

color me completely amazed. I was so impressed with your egret - the photos are beautiful - and I am grateful you taught me things while i viewed . . . Then - you show us a night heron guy - which i didn't even know existed . . . and i sat here - riveted to your page going back - looking at the egret - then scrolling down - because the heron is so different looking - and way cool . . and, because i don't know enough about birds - really, it was one of those "deer in the headlight' kind of moments - caught in the light - surprised, and happily amazed . . . Thank You for starting may off with beautiful surprise . . . . wow
