Linking up Camera Critters and I'd-Rather-b-birdin
I hope you are joining in and posting your birds and critters.

I have a long weekend for the Columbus Day holiday and usually I would have visited Shenandoah Nat'l Park to see the fall leaves or I would have headed to Delaware to visit Bombay Hood wildlife refuge. No plans today... Am I the only person upset with the government over this stupid shutdown..

Chincoteague had to cancel their pony roundup... ruining a lot of people's plans to visit.

With the shutdown still going on, most of our National Parks and Wildlife Refuges are closed.  The government is allowing each individual states pick up the cost of running their park. That is,  IF  they want to open their own state National Park. So far, I only read about the State of Utah and Colorado. I had wished that they would have all opened by now.

A green heron hiding in the bare branches...see in Chincoteague NWR.

See this article about New Mexico's National Parks: Carlsbad Nat'l Park
After reading this article and seeing that some states are not hurting I think the Oil companies that are booming should pay to open the parks.. After all the are drilling in our National Parks, it only seems fair..Enough of my rant...I am just mad because my vacation is being canceled due to a park that is closed.

More from Chincoteague NWR, Snowy Egrets and a few juvenile White Ibis...At first I posted they were juvenile Glossy Ibis.

I do have some great news..I am a Great-Aunt ..My niece had a baby boy Neill Stephen 7 lbs 11 oz.  Congrats to Melissa and David..and welcome baby Neill.

Thanks for stopping by and  I wish everyone a happy weekend.
To see more beautiful photos and cute critters

please visit:  Camera Critters and I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Thanks to the gracious hosts Misty Dawn of Camera Critters and to Anni of I'd Rather-B-birdin.

  1. Hi Eileen
Sorry you're plans are put on hold. I think it's BS what's going on. Perhaps they should withhold the PAY of congress, etc, until this is resolved. Perhaps that's the motivation they need???
    LOL!
Well , we can't change Washington, unfortunately. No matter who is supposedly running the show, we all know by now it's really the corporations and the uber-rich and they have to have their tantrums every once in awhile--just to let us peasants know who is in charge.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend despite the idiots.

  7. Lovely pictures. It is a pity about the Government shut down. This will make the Republicans very unpopular. How long will this silly shut down last ?

  20. One of the parks we were going to visit today near New Orleans is a federal park, so it's closed. We'll go to a nearby state park instead. :( Pretty disappointed. Congrats on the new addition to your family! Nice pics, too!

Nice pictures. Shame about your vacation.

  30. Congrats to your niece, Eileen! Lots of people here in the Shenandoah Valley are upset about the shutdown because it is really impacting tourism. There was a protest in Front Royal last week.

Assateague on the Maryland side is open, as you probably know. I love Assateague Island and I'm sorry you didn't get out to the refuge. But you aren't very far from there are you?

I'm sure the citizens of Chincoteague are as upset as the folks here. I'll bet a substantial portion of income there is due to tourists visiting the refuge and beach. I don't know if Virginia can afford to pay for the park to reopen... or if it can afford not to!

  41. ...and the sad part is, the President is now asking/begging the STATES to take over the nat'l parks and get people to operate them at the states' expense?!!!

Just think of all the people from all over the world that have traveled to see the beautiful parks and find they can't get in.

    Boggles my mind.

You got me started now, Eileen. I did a post on my personal blog this morning about some polls taken on the approval of Congress...it's funny.

By the way, super images!!! As always.

  42. Congrats on your new family member! Very cool.

I always love your photos, Eileen. I'm sorry your weekend plans have been spoiled and hope you find another great place to enjoy birds.

  43. It is quite shocking, your political woes! Canada isn't having any better a time, either. Our Prime Minister doesn't believe in protecting the environment. He's looking after big business, not middle class Canadians. sigh.
Cheers from Cottage Country Ontario , ON, Canada!

  46. Congratulations Eileen.
So sorry that your vacation has to be postponed because of the lunacy going on in Washington. I think the majority of the country is pretty unimpressed with this whole saga.
I hope you still have a good holiday weekend.

  50. Thank you for visiting my blog, Eileen. I'm so sorry to hear about the 'shut-down'. I loved seeing the Snowy Egret and the young Ibis birds. We occasionally get Glossy Ibis here, and I'm longing to see one ... We get a lot of Little Egrets, and I saw one coming in to land in the water channel earlier today.
