Linking up Camera Critters and I'd-Rather-b-birdin
I hope you are joining in and posting your birds and critters.
I have a long weekend for the Columbus Day holiday and usually I would have visited Shenandoah Nat'l Park to see the fall leaves or I would have headed to Delaware to visit Bombay Hood wildlife refuge. No plans today... Am I the only person upset with the government over this stupid shutdown..
Chincoteague had to cancel their pony roundup... ruining a lot of people's plans to visit.
With the shutdown still going on, most of our National Parks and Wildlife Refuges are closed. The government is allowing each individual states pick up the cost of running their park. That is, IF they want to open their own state National Park. So far, I only read about the State of Utah and Colorado. I had wished that they would have all opened by now.
A green heron hiding in the bare branches...see in Chincoteague NWR.
See this article about New Mexico's National Parks: Carlsbad Nat'l Park
After reading this article and seeing that some states are not hurting I think the Oil companies that are booming should pay to open the parks.. After all the are drilling in our National Parks, it only seems fair..Enough of my rant...I am just mad because my vacation is being canceled due to a park that is closed.
More from Chincoteague NWR, Snowy Egrets and a few juvenile White Ibis...At first I posted they were juvenile Glossy Ibis.
I do have some great news..I am a Great-Aunt ..My niece had a baby boy Neill Stephen 7 lbs 11 oz. Congrats to Melissa and David..and welcome baby Neill.

Hi Eileen
Sorry you're plans are put on hold. I think it's BS what's going on. Perhaps they should withhold the PAY of congress, etc, until this is resolved. Perhaps that's the motivation they need???
LOL!
Well , we can't change Washington, unfortunately. No matter who is supposedly running the show, we all know by now it's really the corporations and the uber-rich and they have to have their tantrums every once in awhile--just to let us peasants know who is in charge.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend despite the idiots.
Marvelous photos of the horses and birds and this amazing landscape. Great ! Best regards, Synnöve
Nice pictures Eileen.... i like that last one very much.
Wish you a lovely weekend.
Greetings, Joop
Yes it is is a real shame when politicians mess with our birding Eileen. Love the ponies shot and the Green Heron and I hope you can salvage some more birding from your weekend.
Beautiful countryside, the horses, Egrets and the Green Heron, superb.
i love the horses & the birds. so cool. ( :
Lovely pictures. It is a pity about the Government shut down. This will make the Republicans very unpopular. How long will this silly shut down last ?
Enjoy your week end
That is too bad about the parks being closed! We are squeezing so tight on everything nowadays!
Beautiful photos, Eileen! Have a great weekend!
Your images are lovely Eileen, very restful despite your frustration. Congratulations on the arrival of baby Neill :)
I love horses!!
Beautiful photos!

You always present such wonderful variety! Great shots!
Love the ponies and the Green Heron photo is my favorite! Congratulations to your niece and family!
i was happy to read your rant...i will spare you my 2 cents!!
knowing that these employees will receive back pay once they return to work = paid vacation!!
your images are beautiful, it seems you got extremely close to the green heron!!
i hope you find a nice local park to visit today. there are many fall festivals in this area that are fun to attend as well!!
Nice photos, and congrats on being a Great Aunt! I know what you mean about the Government shutdown. It's pretty crazy.

Beautiful Photos Eileen, the horses I find really great.
The green heron and egret are also very nice.
Nice weekend, Irma
One of the parks we were going to visit today near New Orleans is a federal park, so it's closed. We'll go to a nearby state park instead. :( Pretty disappointed. Congrats on the new addition to your family! Nice pics, too!
Lovely photo of the horses! Sorry your vacation plans are ruined. The shut down has ruined a lot of peoples plans.
Congrats on becoming a Great Aunt!
This is a fight between two big elephants.
We are the grass.
Eileen, I love that image of the green heron!!! I don't have the lens to capture them!!! And the ponies are wonderful! Congrats on the new baby!!
Beautiful landscapes!

Dimi...
Congrats on becoming a great-aunt. I'm sorry your vacation is cancelled.
Great pictures. sorry you had to cancel your vacation. I would love to go to that wild horse round up - maybe if they do it again soon I will since I am in VA now.
Congrats on your baby nephew :)
I'm sorry to hear that your long weekend plans had to be changed because the parks are closed. Tennessee is trying to get the Smokies opened, but so far nothing has been announced officially. I do like your pictures.
Beautiful photography ~ despite not going where you wanted ~ Govt is impacting all of us ~ carol ^_^
congrats on the new nephew ^_^
Hi there - the shut down looks really strange from outside of the country.
Nice pictures. Shame about your vacation.
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Congrats to your niece, Eileen! Lots of people here in the Shenandoah Valley are upset about the shutdown because it is really impacting tourism. There was a protest in Front Royal last week.
Assateague on the Maryland side is open, as you probably know. I love Assateague Island and I'm sorry you didn't get out to the refuge. But you aren't very far from there are you?
I'm sure the citizens of Chincoteague are as upset as the folks here. I'll bet a substantial portion of income there is due to tourists visiting the refuge and beach. I don't know if Virginia can afford to pay for the park to reopen... or if it can afford not to!
Ditto what Susan said your shots are gorgeous. Have a great long weekend

Congrats on the new addition in the family. Great series of images.

Congrats on the new grand-nephew! At least there is still happy news to be had. :) You got some great photos.
love ponies, great shots, eileen!
and congrats on becoming a great-aunt.
sorry to hear that your long weekend plans had to be changed.
beautiful photos!
that looks like a fun place to explore, lush and full of life!
We watched "Hildalgo" again last night and your images remind me again how much I love wild horses. xo
The Green Heron is a beauty. A great Aunt, wow, how wonderful.
Beautiful shots. Whenever I see the ponies, I remember "Misty of Chincoteague", one of my favorite childhood reads. Congratulations on the new family member!
...and the sad part is, the President is now asking/begging the STATES to take over the nat'l parks and get people to operate them at the states' expense?!!!
Just think of all the people from all over the world that have traveled to see the beautiful parks and find they can't get in.
Boggles my mind.
You got me started now, Eileen. I did a post on my personal blog this morning about some polls taken on the approval of Congress...it's funny.
By the way, super images!!! As always.
Congrats on your new family member! Very cool.
I always love your photos, Eileen. I'm sorry your weekend plans have been spoiled and hope you find another great place to enjoy birds.
It is quite shocking, your political woes! Canada isn't having any better a time, either. Our Prime Minister doesn't believe in protecting the environment. He's looking after big business, not middle class Canadians. sigh.
Cheers from Cottage Country Ontario , ON, Canada!
I wish the government would reopen! I wanted to go to the Red River Gorge last week to go hiking but it was closed!
Beautiful photos, Eileen!
Greetings, RW & SK
Congratulations Eileen.
So sorry that your vacation has to be postponed because of the lunacy going on in Washington. I think the majority of the country is pretty unimpressed with this whole saga.
I hope you still have a good holiday weekend.
Congratulations, Great-Aunt Eileen!
No, you are not the only person upset over the Government Shutdown. It is stupid and absolutely not necessary.
A great post for the bird theme!
Thank you for visiting my blog, Eileen. I'm so sorry to hear about the 'shut-down'. I loved seeing the Snowy Egret and the young Ibis birds. We occasionally get Glossy Ibis here, and I'm longing to see one ... We get a lot of Little Egrets, and I saw one coming in to land in the water channel earlier today.
Beautiful photos Eileen, and a lovely child to add to your happy family.
Hope your days continue to be filled with joy in nature despite your government's stalling of just about everything it seems... good luck with that.
take good care...
Great captures of the natural beauty.
You're not alone....We're all upset Eileen but just don't know how to express itHopefully those who lost will admit defeat and figure out a better way to behave.
Hi Eileen Fantastic landscapes and lovely bird and horse shots.
reminded me of Camargue. Horses and birds together. :)
I love the scene with the horses!
What a lovely place for a walk. Congratulations on the birth of your great nephew!
