Around the Yard

I have a list below of memes I am joining for this week, and to save time I am doing one post for all. They are all fun memes to participate in...I hope you can join in with the fun  and check out some of the participating posts. Special thanks to all the wonderful host and their memes, I hope you have some time to check them out.

These are the end of my photos taken in December 2015. Some of my yard birds and my moon photos. Now, I can clear out more of my files and make room for more.

Not the best photos considering the feeder and how it is hanging but, those dang squirrels kept knocking it off. I found a way to hang the feeder so it will not fall on the ground so often. Pictured in the mosaic are the House Finch, Blue Jay, Cardinals, Goldfinch, Titmouse and Chickadee.

I was enjoying that some of the birds like this Chickadee landed on my wind chime before heading to the feeder.

Above one of my many Chickadees and a Tufted Titmouse. I love wind chimes and have several of them hanging on our deck and pergola. Each one makes different sounds that I love.

On Dec 24th the moon almost full, it was mostly cloudy but I was able to snap off a few photos of the moon.

On Dec 27 , I had a couple of Pine Siskins stop by and lately I have been seeing 20-30 House Sparrows. I am not sure why all of a sudden I am seeing so many House Sparrows, they are not one of my favorite birds, but the male is handsome.

Above the moon on Dec 28th. I thank you for stoping by, I hope you enjoyed my post.

As always I appreciate your visits and nice comments. Thank you! Have a happy day and new week ahead!

Thanks for visiting my post and as always I appreciate your comments.

  15. i need to come take your lessons on how to get moon shots. our stars last night were so clear, crisp & awesome!! i got a new camera for Christmas & i am hoping maybe it will do better at that. we have seen a few birds on the warmer days, but lately the birds have been kind of quiet. i wonder if there is a big hawk around or why they have been so quiet lately? hope your week is a great one. can you believe the new year is here? time is flying by. enjoy every second. 33. I'm thinking there must be the most wonderful blend of birdsong and wind chimes emanating from your back yard, Eileen. Those moon shots are spectacular (especially the one taken on the 28th), and I love all of your yard birds (we have a ton of House Sparrows here all year long), but the winning photo for me in this post is the one of the chickadee braced on the wind chime to propel himself into the feeder. :)

  45. Eileen that is a gorgeous moon shot. I too tried to photograph it but the clouds kept half covering it. But it was spectacular to view on a warm Christmas Eve. Your first set of photos is so rich in color--at least the kind of color I like! Nice combination!

  61. Cute feeders and lots of birds. I tried making suet balls but the only thing to check them out was gnats, lots of gnats. I bought a feeder with a roof cover (we get lots of rain) to see if I can attract a few winter birds. It may take a long time since we've never used one before and we don't get many winter visitors. - Margy

  78. Hi Eileen, thanks for commenting on my WBW post today! In your extreme climate, bird feeders are necessary to encourage birds to your garden. Grant loves bird feeders and would have even more than two if we had more trees in our line of sight! Thanks for your kind blog friendship over the years. I love following your trails and trips which show me birds and wildlife never to be seen here! Greetings Jo

Do you really clear your files and start new each year. I always just start a new file while keeping the old ... no wonder my computer runs so slow ... Hmmmm :)

  88. Hi. Here I am at the end of the week commenting at the end of a very long list. Will you find me? I am slow to get around this week. Your backyard looks like a bird paradise. Wee get a few siskins now and then, but mostly sparrow, juncos, house finches, blue jays, and woodpeckers. It has been very cold, so they read a lot. Love the moon photos.

    ReplyDelete
  89. You have some great bird feeders there Eileen. I think we need a word for a collection of bird feeders - suggestions please. I'll kick it off with "bounty"

Your garden/yard visitors are to be admired too. The male House Finch is a real stunner and I know the House Sparrows are not your favourites but as you say the male is a real character to have around the place.

  90. I love all these beautiful birds !!
    Fantastic photos !!

  91. I have a dozen bird feeders too! This seems to be our year for goldfinches; they devour sunflower seed and thistle by the pound!! Lovely photos as always!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Great yard birds!! I saw the moon in December, and it was awesome! In regards to the squirrels... I have found that putting either vaseline or something like axle grease on the pole deters them from climbing it. Unless of course, they are climbing something nearby and jumping onto the feeders! Have had that happen too... Hose reel removed to another spot shortly after! And now fewer squirrels... We get an occasional one that just jumps straight up... can't be helped!
