Mount Rainier Nat'l Park

Hello and Happy Thursday!

I am sharing some images from our first few days April 30-May3rd in Washington state and our visit to Mount Rainier Nat'l Park. We were happy the weather cooperated and we saw some blue skies along with the gray cloudy days. I have some common birds seen in Washington along with some pretty sky images.

One of the common Washington States birds we saw was this Oregon Junco below, they are cute.

A view of the mountains with a blue sky. As you go up the curvy mountain road you leave the greenery behind and end up with snow all around you.

We saw lots of white trillium along with some pink trillium in places.

Another view of our walk on the Trail of the Shadows, Mount Rainier Nat'l Park. This is at Longmire and an elevation of 2,761 feet.

The American Robin was one of the most common birds we saw during the whole trip.

A Belted Kingfisher seen during one of our walks along the river.

During our stay we saw blue skies and cloudy gray skies, either way the scenery and views were beautiful.  We even saw some snow flurries.

At the park we headed to the where the snow plows had stopped clearing the roads. Some roads were not supposed to open until the end of May or June.

Inside looking out from the Paradise Visitor Center, Mount Rainier Nat'l Park. You can see the snow piled up near the bottom of the window.

Paradise Visitor Center, Mount Rainier Nat'l Park is at an elevation of 5,400 feet.

For my list of thankful things this week:
I am thankful the weather was nice during our trip. After we left this area we heard they closed the road to the Paradise visitor center due to the warm weather could cause the snow to drop off like an avalanche into the road.
I am thankful we had good timing for our activities.

I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.  Thanks so much for visiting and for your nice comments. Have a happy day!

Thank you Michelle for hosting. Thankful Thursday

Thank you to the hosts of   Skywatch Friday

Good morning Eileen, what a fun trip this was, for me too, and I love seeing the snow even better that it's photos! I'm so into summer right now! I wouldn't know the bird's name but so cute!

Looks like you got MOST of the seasons all in one week. The photos (as always) are lovely.

Belted kingfishers -------I've seen quite a few. I have not managed to capture a single one on camera! They are too skittish.

We get junco's visiting our bird feeder at home. You need to come back to Mt Rainier National park in August when the wildflowers are blooming on the high mountain slopes.

What a fabulous trip and I'm so glad you had good weather. How neat to see so much snow...glad it stayed put and didn't come onto the roads while you were there. Love the different birds...the Junco sure is sweet! Hugs, Diane

Lovely images, Eileen! My oldest son was based out in Seattle a decade or so ago and I visited him there / visiting Mt Rainier was an amazing and enjoyable part of that visit

Very nice pics, Eileen. We love to travel but haven't been to Mt. Rainier so I really appreciate seeing your pics of it. Nice to see the Oregon Junco looks very similar to our Juncos with his cute pink legs and peak. Thanks Eileen.

So nice to be able to travel and enjoy the beauty of so many places. Go while you can. I used to travel a lot, but no more.

The landscape is so alluring. A pity that I haven't been up that way when it's so close to me being in the same coast. I must do something to remedy this remission.

Hello Eileen,
Only the pictures of your birds are great to see.
So many beautiful birds and that is enjoyable.
Also nature is beautiful to see. You will therefore be very pleased.
I wish you a very nice weekend

Hi Eileen, so glad you enjoyed your visit to my neck of the woods! Next time come in July - the flanks of Mt. Rainier are covered in wildflowers and you can take the trails near the visitor center to view them all. Yes, it is dangerous to travel up there during avalanche season. Wonderful photos - love the kingfisher. xx Karen

I am SO glad you were able to get around Mt Rainier as well as you did... it is amazing (not the best birding, but so worth it anyway as you so well express) but an awesome park ..... we are on our way back to the Pacific Northwest and will be home next month. (Driving, stopping in Colorado to spend some time with our 'kids' there.).....
