Around the yard

Happy Thankful Thursday,

I hope everyone is doing well and your New Year  is off to a great start. It has been super cold lately.  Too cold to go out birding or walking. I am doing my walks on the treadmill and watching the birds out my windows. We did get in one walk on Dec 24th Christmas Eve just a local walk to our lake. These are some views of the lake, sky and my back yard birds.  Photos taken from Dec 18th to Dec 26th.

December 18th Skywatch from our deck.

December 24th our Christmas Eve walk on the fire road trail to the lake.

December 24th.  A view of the lake.  Christmas Eve was a cloudy and cold day.

December 24th some Canada Geese flying over the lake.

December 25th, our White Christmas

December 26th, a Blue Jay mosaic. I have a heated bird bath, the birds seem happy to stop for some water.

December 26th, a very cold day and I watched the birds from my window. Top row: Blue Jay and Downy Woodpecker, bottom row Northern Cardinal and another Downy Woodpecker.

I am thankful for the little things, like bird watching, skywatching and taking walks in the neighborhood.
I am thankful to have a warm house on these cold winter days.
I am thankful for all your visits and comments this past year.

Thank you Michelle for hosting. Thankful Thursday
Thank you to the hosts of   Skywatch Friday

Thanks so much for visiting and for your nice comments on my previous post. Have a happy day!

I have enjoyed the birds at my winter feeder too. I'm in Wisconsin so not a large variety right now. The woodpeckers sure love the suet cakes. Happy New Year

It's a brisk 40 degrees here in Tampa this morning. That's just a few degrees above Armageddon for us.

Got that right on super cold! Is that big blizzard/storm coming your way? Not sure how north you are, but if Charleston and Boston are both getting snow, I'm guessing you might, too!

I bet they love you for the heated bath!! Your collages are beautiful. Have a warm and happy day.

I'm ready for winter to end already the bitter cold of the past 3 days has me huddled under blankets and lacking the motivation to get out of my cozy nest. Lovely photos of your world.

I like how you used your imagination for your white Christmas.

Beautiful photos.

I have noticed that right before a storm our birds get very active.

I hope all the birds find a safe, sheltered, warmish spot to hunker down in that cold. Lovely jay mosaic, super photo framing and layout .

A heated bird bath is a real treat for the birds! I was amazed to see a Mockingbird here this morning. They didn't used to come here in the summer and I'm amazed that this guy has stayed for the winter especially since it has been so unusually cold this year.

The weather has been cold in many parts of the UK too, and you only have to watch the TV programmes to learn of more bad and cold weather globally.

I love your photographs and think it wonderful to have a heated bird bath, to sit and watch the birds is just so lovely.

All the best Jan

kudos to you for these shots despite the cold! :)

here in southwestern PA we are under a wind chill warning / schools closed etc due to the extreme cold and wind chills over the next few days

The Blue Jays have been visiting here, too. It is too cold to do anything...let alone go for a walk! I think we will all be happy when we
have some warmer weather!

Good idea stay inside and keep warm. If I lived there I would hibernate for the winter. Love the blue Jay colour.

Very beautiful photos Eileen. So sorry that it is too cold to get out for a walk though. By the time you are able to get outdoors you will be getting cabin fever ;-) I want to wish you a Happy New Year in 2018 and a fabulous week ahead.

Eileen, I've always loved sky pictures, and yours are always so outstanding. I've never photographed birds before, but it seems like fun. Of course, I never seem to photograph anything but food!
