Saturday's Critters #336

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Happy Memorial Day weekend! Remember and Honor!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

May 9 through May 14th, these are some of the yard birds I am seeing.

I am not sure if this is unusual timing but I am still seeing at least 1 Dark-eye Junco as of May 14th.

The Pine Warbler was a frequent visitor to the suet feeder.

The Male American Goldfinch looked like a ball of fluff on a cold morning.

A closeup of the female Rose-breasted Grosbeak. I was seeing just the females from May 3rd through May 11th.

May 11th female Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

I have been seeing a lot of the Downy Woodpeckers, they are also frequent visitors to the suet feeder.
On this day, I saw 3 of these woodies, 2 on the feeder and one on the railing catching the suet droppings.

Two Downy woodpeckers, the male has the red spot on it's head.

Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Here is my linky;

Also visit:  I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Thanks to the host Anni.

HI Eileen,
Birds are such a big part of my now-restricted world! Your feeder looks like a very happy place. I'll be posting another bird post and maybe link it as well as the one I just did. Your instructions don't say if it's ok to link two critter posts.

be well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com

We live in strange times an plants and animals comes differently from what we are used to. I am happy as long as I see anything. It is also very scarce with insects. So, I wonder what insects are going to pollinate the crops?
Take care Eileen, stay safe.

That junco seems really late to me, Eileen. They left here at least a couple of weeks ago and we are farther north. I am quite sure I have not seen Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and Dark-eyed Juncos at the same time.

A Bit of the Blarney said...

You really have a variety of guests who visit you backyard, handsome and beautiful. Happy Memorial weekend!!

Brian King said...

Lots of nice birds! The Grosbeaks that were here briefly have moved on.

Marie Smith said...

Great variety. The female grosbeak sure is short changed when it comes to colour.

Debbie V. said...

I thought I saw a junco a couple of days ago as well but he was on the tube feeder. I thought maybe my eyes were not seeing right. I always see them on the ground after cold weathers starts here in southern Indiana.

Jeanie said...

I haven't seen much in the line of goldfinches here so it's good to see yours! Happy week! And especially Happy Memorial Weekend!

Phil Slade said...

Good morning Eileen. I think at this time of year some birds are a little slow to move north. It happens here too. It might be that the feeding is good and that they are last year's youngsters that are not yet ready to breed so their hormones are less advanced.

It's always good to see your Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and for you to show us how beautiful are the females as well as the males.

Kenneth Cole Schneider said...

That does seem a bit late for the junco. We do not get them at all here in south Florida, but do see lots of human Snow-birds (at least before COVID)!

~Lavender Dreamer~ said...

The Downys sure are pretty. How neat to see 3 at once! Love your Goldfinch too. For some reason we only saw a few this Spring. We usually see hundreds. Lots of beautiful birds at your feeders! Have a good weekend!

Debbie said...

you have a nice plethora of birds at your feeders, many of these i do not see. i think it is odd to see a junco this time of year here, perhaps it will stay for summer. my goldfinches have yet to return and i miss them. beautiful pictures, great entertainment....

have a nice weekend, although you are probably getting the same rain we are. i think it is suppose to be nice tomorrow!! thanks for hosting!!

Love the pine warbler. So pretty. We saw goldfinches earlier, but they have disappeared from our area. I put out suet, but no one comes to partake even though we have lots of woodpeckers nearby. You sure have a lot of beautiful birds here. Happy Saturday!

Jeanna said...

I'm seeing a lot of finches and downy woodpeckers at my feeder along with more cardinals than expected. I noticed people putting out oranges and grape jelly for Orioles, do you ever do that?

Red said...

Send some of your rose breasted grosbeaks this way. I haven't seen one for many years.

Hi Eileen, a downy woodpecker woke me one morning this week pecking on the side of the house...our house is a natural wooden house and occasionally this happens. I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen more. I love your set up there for bird feeding.

Good morning Eileen, your photos are just beautiful, and I learn so much from you with colors, markings and descriptions because I often need that. We had a beautiful orange and black bird (and I mean gorgeous) and so I googled it looking for a name and it offered exactly that Orange and Black bird! Enjoy your week and how ever you celebrate Memorial Day.

A Junco in my yard this time of year would be rare for sure...nice to see one at your place. The Gold Finch are so lovely and yellow! I see them around but necessarily at my feeders they prefer the open fields right now. Have a good holiday Im doing nothing but the usual stuff.
