Saturday's Critters # 544

Welcome to Saturday's Critters! Hello and Happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

A bit of news, recently I fell at home one morning, It was a clumsy fall, tripping over the corner of my bedroom rug. After a 4 hour visit to the ER, a CT scan on my head and xrays of my wrist and knee I learned I fractured a bone in my nose, sprained my right wrist, busted my lip and a bump on my left knee. My face is swollen and bruised and so colorful, the ice packs have been helping.  I am moving slowly and recovering but it is hard to type with my left hand. I will be slow visiting but I will get to everyone who links up and visits. BTW, hubby is back to normal hopefully we will both be healthy and ready for our next trip.

1. We were only in Page Arizona for two nights, the main attraction was to see the Antelope Slot Canyon. Before leaving Page, we did stop to take a walk to the Horseshoe Bend overlook, along the 1 1/2 mile trail we saw lots of pretty flowers, cactus, lizards and a few birds. I believe the white flowers are called Evening Primrose?

2. Me and my shadow. It was a pretty sky day for our walk to the overlook, a lot cooler in the early morning.

3. Views of the trail, the Horseshoe Bend overlook and the river below and what looks like a nest on the canyon wall.  We did see more swallows flying around this spot. You can see the Colorado River down below the overlook.

4. While walking to the overlook, I heard lots of the Black-throated Sparrows.  They are pretty birds. A House Sparrow was seen nearby, they seem to be all over the world.

5. A closer look at the Black-throated Sparrow. This bird is gray-brown above and has a white eyebrow and whisker stripes along with the black throat. They forage on the ground for seeds and insects.

6. Not sure if you can see there are two lizards in the photo below, one is hidden by the plant and only the tail is seen.

7. Pretty flowers along the trail.

8. From the overlook, we could see two rafts on the bank of the river, can you see the two rafts in the upper left photo. The lizards were running all around us on the desert floor, pretty yellow flowers and the Page sign showing the Horseshoe Bend.

9. The rafts look tiny in the mosaic above, I was able to zoom in with my camera for a closeup.

10. Leaving the town of Page behind, passing signs for Flagstaff and Sedona and Phoenix. We had a long drive to Green Valley Arizona and our hotel for the next two nights.

I am linking up to Heidrun's Mosaic Monday  I hope you can stop by and visit Heidrun and check out the Mosaic Monday post.

Thanks to all my visitors and for your past and present comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves and respects wildlife. Thank you for linking up a critter post.

  1. Good morning, dear Eileen, visiting a canyon has been a dream of mine for a long time. And I really enjoy your report about your trip. Thank you for sharing.

However, it is extremely sad to read at the beginning that you had such a bad fall! Oh dear, that sounds worrying and I hope that you are taking it easy. Of course, I look forward to your words on my blog every week, your nice comments. But this week I would rather you rested. All the best for you and a speedy recovery. I'm glad that your dear husband is feeling better again.

Hugs and best wishes from Heidrun

  3. Oh no, I am so very sorry about your fall. It sounded a real doozy! I hope you start to feel better very soon. Glad to know your husband is feeling better too. Great photos from your visit to Page. This area is one of my most favorite areas of the United States. Have a great weekend and I hope it will be painless. Takes a while to get over these things. Sending lots of good thoughts your way.

  6. You are such good company. Eileen. I am wishing you both healing Angels. I'm extra careful with my walking because I did fall once this year and it was a big shock. Thank goodness I'm okay. But I'm not shy about being careful anymore. Wishing you both all the best with Fond Aloha!

  9. Oh no, dear Eileen, the thing about your fall sounds terrible!!! I hope everything heals well and quickly!
We planned Horseshoe Bend on our first trip to Arizona - and then overlooked it! It's a shame - and on our second trip to Arizona the detour was too far for us... You saw some beautiful things here - thanks for pointing out that there are TWO lizards in the photo! ;-) Yes, house sparrows really seem to be everywhere in the world, we've probably seen them in every country so far...
    All the best, Traude

  13. Hello fellow sufferer. I slipped with the rug in the bedroom, fell backwards and broke my foot at the bed.
Rug is gone! You were not so lucky, it seems - best well wishes!
It was winter and everybody thought I slipped on ice outside. I didn´t correct them ;-)
What a wonderful trip! Now I miss Australia´s Outback a lot. The lizards are cute and yes, sparrows are all over the world, even in front of our house! Or, they were, they must´ve moved somewhere else, which is sad.
Get well soon and try to enjoy the weekend. Maybe throw out the rug or buy an "underrug" that is firm to the ground. We did so for the only one left. It´s a hopscotch-rug you leave street-"dirt" on when you enter (if there is any as we have three mats before you come in).

  44. Page, Arizona - reminds me of my youth growing up in the desert. In my thirties, we rented a houseboat at Lake Powel, and cruised up the river, stopping for the night whereever we wanted. I remember one night the rain fell and we could hear the roar of the water cascading over the rim like a gigantic waterfall. There are times I still miss the desert. You took a tumble much worse than my two, but I do know what great pain is. I'm so sorry to hear it happened. Much love and hugs.

  53. I am so sorry that you fell...it sounds painful. I hope you recover quickly.
I have not told it on my blog, but I should. It should make you laugh... a week or two ago, I was heading outside to grill some burgers. Copper ran ahead of me so he did not trip me. I really do not know how I did it, but I fell as I was stepping down from the top step. There are two steps only...I fell almost in slow motion...landing on my hip and fell back but did not hit my head hard or anything....what is hilarious is I never dropped the tray of burgers. And Copper thinking Grandma was playing a new game came running back to investigate, but soon as he got there he smelled the burgers...I managed to keep him away from them, and to get up and continue on. It did not strike me as funny till later that evening.

I would not have seen the second lizard if you had not mentioned it.
