Around the yard in June 2017

Hello  and  HAPPY Thursday,

June seemed to fly by, the weather has been a mix bag, hot, chilly, cloudy and rainy days.  I am hoping July will feel more like summer. I have various photos taken from around the yard.

The Great Blue Heron is on a nest in the woods across from our driveway.

The Stella D'Oro lilies bloomed nicely, I do not think the deer like to eat them.

This clematis blooming is mixing in with our blueberry bushes. If you look closely you can see the blueberries.

The waxing gibbous moon and Jupiter below taken on June 3rd.

The almost full moon rising on June 8th.

This Great-crested Flycatcher has been hanging around the yard and also banging himself on our front window. He is safe and finally stopped.

"Always be thankful for each other."

For my list of thankful things this week:
I am thankful for a bush full of blueberries, if not for me but for the birds to enjoy.
I am thankful for a clear sky to see the full moon, just beautiful.

I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.  Thanks so much for visiting and for your nice comments. Have a happy day!

Thank you Michelle for hosting. Thankful Thursday

  12. Hi Eileen, how wonderful to have the Blue Heron right across the street. Fabulous to watch. I feel so sorry for the Flycatcher who is only trying to defend his territory by fighting off the predator he sees in the reflection in your window. As a visiting nurse, I had a patient who had a beautiful red Cardinal doing that too. They closed the drapes which only made it worse because of the reflection. They had to keep a light on in the window to prevent the reflection so he'd stop. Another neighbor had the same thing, and what they did was put a cut out of a big black bird on the outside of their picture window and the bird who was attacking went away. I've heard this is the preferred method of discouraging the attacks. I hope the poor little guy moves on and doesn't get hurt. He must think he's up against a formidable foe.
    Enjoy your day!

  19. Hello Eileen
Yes, it is quite alarming the rate that June and 2017 is flying by!
Another very nice collection of photographs. Your clematis is a beautiful colour.
Isn't it strange how birds do sometimes fly with such a bang into windows, pleased to read the Great-crested flycatcher has now stopped doing this ... it must have given him a headache!

Enjoy the rest of the week and my good wishes for the coming month of July.

    All the best Jan

  28. Hi Eileen. You have some lovely June memories. Aren't the Stellas so bright? I have had them in years past, and they always made such a grand showing. I need to clear a spot for some to bloom next Spring. And, your moon shots are really cool. I have a Mulberry tree, and, as you of your blueberries, I am grateful for the fruit my tree bears for the birds and squirrels. Have a great weekend!

  40. Too coll to have the Great Blue Heron nesting nearby! And the Great Crested Flycatcher may be in nesting mode, and attacking the 'intruder'! Love the shot of the moon AND Jupiter! Wow! I got pictures of the full moon when I was in Alabama. It turned red! Cool to see... Thanks for sharing!

  41. Hi Eileen, fantastic shots of a Heron and the Strawberry moon.

  42. The shot of the nesting heron is amazing! I love these June pics and glad the little bird is OK.

From my kitchen window, I watched a squirrel approach my potted basil out front. He stood up on his haunches and started nibbling! I banged on the window and he jumped onto the railing a few feet away. When I opened the front door to glare at him, he jumped onto a tree branch and glared back and then shot a look at the basil, as if to say, "I'll be back for you." :)

You reminded me of that that with your magnanimous comment about the birds and your blueberry bush.

  48. The flycatcher is really 'great' -- lovely pictures of it and your flowers and yard. And as always your moon shots are fine. your weather sounds a bit like Oregon's ... we often feel like we've had our summer already while we were in Florida and that we come here to cool down. (But Eugene did have hundred-degree weather last weekend -- we purposely played on the road while up in the mountains because we thought that weather was too hot for unpacking the van. We waited to get home until the temperature dropped on Monday.)

  49. Very fine shots! Love that magnificent heron!

  50. Great shot of the Heron. Pretty lilies and clematis & as always your moon shots are fabulous.
