Tropical Kingbird

I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

For this week's wild bird, I am sharing the Tropical Kingbird  seen in Belize.

The Tropical Kingbird was not a Belize lifer, I have seen them in different places during my travels.
Here is another one of my post sharing the Tropical Kingbird seen in Panama.
This bird is a large tyrant flycatcher. It breeds from southern Arizona to South America

This is not the best shot taken from a great distance and on a cloudy day. But it shows the bird well and their colors. Their head are a pale grey with a darker eye mask. They have a heavy bill and the they have yellow underparts.  They eat insects and some fruits.

I hope you enjoyed my Belize bird.. Thanks for stopping by my post and for all the nice comments.

Nice looking bird - I assume they are related to flycatchers - they have a similar look.

Oh yes, I love all of your birds --including the ones from Belize... That Tropical Kingbird is a beauty. What is your total number of different birds you have seen now?

Hugs,

Wow--you are planning a trip to CO. I hope my posts are helping you decide about some things to see & do!

Yes it does! This bird breeds in several areas around Tucson. And they are loud! 4 similar kingbirds we have to understand.....
1. Tropical Kingbird-notch in tail
2. Western Kingbird(common)-white outside tail feathers
3. Cassin's Kingbird-grayer on head with white throat
4. Thick-billed Kingbird(rarest)-whiter than the other with a bigger bill and a bigger bird

Kingbirds are fascinating birds! Congrats!

The kingbird is very lovely Eileen. It appears to be quite large and with ahefty bill - all the better for taking those nuisance insects? Have a great weekend.

Eileen, it was always a treat and a challenge to find this species in Arizona, but I did find them a few times. The notched tail is another clue!
