Limpkin

Hello,

Happy Tuesday!
The Limpkin is a Florida breeder, it can be found from northern Argentina to Florida. The Limpkin's diet consists mainly of apple snails.

I have seen the Limpkins all around Florida, I can hear them while I am inside my house. That is how loud they sound, like an alarm going off.

In Florida, these birds do not seem to fear people. We have walked by them, while they stood on the trail or next to the trail.

The Limpkin makes some unusual sounds, some sounding down right awful.

I hope you enjoyed my photos and post. Thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

I have never heard of this delightful creature and was curious to hear its call. My dog, curled up at my feet, lifted her head and perked her ears at the sound! If limpkins live here, I think I'd have a hard time getting her to come inside!

Good morning neighbor! Well, we went a long time before we saw one of these. They really blend in to their environment. But they do have quite a squawk! Wonderful photos! Enjoy your day. Hugs, Diane

Thanks for the introduction to the Limpkin! Now I need to find out what an apple snail is - a snail that eat apples I'm guessing?

Great shots Eileen, I've discovered another bird now! Ha ha, that call could certainly get a bit tiresome, but that's the same with our White Cockatoos - you learn to live with them eh!
Thanks for your lovely post, cheers :D)

Great photos of an interesting bird. From that video it has a really horrible noise! So many of the birds around my place are very noisy and I am glad I don't have that one as well.

Now that is a rare bird! There must be an abundance of apple snails to keep a population alive. Impressive photos.

Those are good pictures of the Limpkin-guess you were right, they don't fear people too much. They look fairly large, and, do sound like a sick alarm going off! But, I don't know what Apple snails are. Will have to look that up! Have a splendid day, Eileen!

I love these birds -- I remember that when we saw our first ones here (this is our 9th Florida season) I couldn't find their picture to ID them.... somebody on Wild Birds are Us helped me out. Birders -- real and virtual -- are so helpful. (

Hi Eileen, Wow, I am almost as fond of the Limpkins as I am of the Wood Storks and woodpeckers! They are neat birds. I usually cannot find any around here in The Villages but I have spotted one at one park here a long time ago. They are rare here. Have a great Friday!
