Crested Caracara

Hello,

I am sharing the Crested Caracara, a raptor seen in Florida. We saw this bird in several places and up close in the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State park. It was also seen along the roads hanging out with the vultures eating road kill.

The Crested Caracara is a resident of these Florida prairie lands and range land.

This raptor has a crest, naked face and a heavy bill.

The Crested Caracara are on the decline due to their habitat being converted to housing development.

This is one of my Florida Birds. My first sightings of this raptor was in Costa Rica. I also saw it in Panama and Curacao. Thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

I found the Crested Caracara quite handsome . . .
Not that I would be fond of him sweeping down surprising me
but colorful markings and proud stature.
Thank you for another "first see" for me from you Eileen . . .

These are amazing birds.

I saw my first two last summer. They were squabbling up in a tree on State Road 46 in Geneva, Florida.

I think I almost gave Steve a heart attack when I yelled STOP THE CAR!!!!

We lived in the area 32 years and that is the first ones I ever saw.

Hi Eileen, I'm back from my travels and visiting again. What an amazing bird this Crested Caracara is: a cross between our secretary bird and a large eagle. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jo

It's beautiful and one I haven't seen....that I know of! I drove over to the library pond and saw a few birds today. It made me feel good to stand there and stare out at the water...even though it was 90 degrees! lol Hugs!

I've been lucky enough to see this bird only a couple of times in florida. and on both occations it was in the Kissimmee area. Its a bird I think has a lot of character, a really smart bird and well photographed.
Take care, Gordon.

The Caracara is actually quite attractive. He looks like a gentleman on his way to the "gents" club. You got very good photos of him. Have a wonderful day, Eileen!

Amazing bird - Nothing more spectacular for me to spot than a few pigeons around here! I know there are lots of birds because I can hear them but they don't want to fly up high to our apartment!

It's difficult to believe that the caracara population is in decline...I see 'em everywhere in our area. I love the look of the juvenile...they're buff brown and pink bill.

Altho, I like the adults too.

Great photos Eileen.

You got some gorgeous closeups! Amazing! Don't like to think how mankind just tears through natural areas for development. I just saw my neighbors hauling away tree branches from his yard... It is disheartening. But... lovely shots! Hugs!
