Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
If you love critters like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
These are some birds and critters I have not shown, seen during our Washington Trip in May. We stayed overnight in Ocean Shores and walked on a few of the local beaches. We saw some shorebirds like the Semipalmated Plover, Dunlins, lots of gulls and a hummer and possibly other shorebirds mixed in.
I believe these are the Semipalmated Plovers
A flock of Dunlin, see their black bellies.
Is this a Crow or Raven? My field guide says Raven's have thick bills. Do you think this bird's bill is thick?
Semipalmated Plover.
American Pipit seen on the coast, walking along side the sandy road to the beach.
Rufous or Allen's Hummingbird. I am not an expert on any hummer except for my local Ruby-throated Hummingbird. This bird was seen flying around the nearby flowers and like to perch on this pine tree.
Sorry, for the picture quality, the bird was a distance away and it was a cloudy day.
Neighborhood deer, near the beach. I think this is a Black-tailed Deer.
There are way too many gull species for me to id, my guess a Western Gull.
I am not sure if this is a big flock of Dunlins or mixed group of shorebirds. What is upsetting is seeing the cars driving on the beach where these birds were resting.
I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments! I hope you enjoy my post and photos too!

Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
I love all the shorebirds, they are at the top of my favorites lists. What a sweet hummingbird - love its perch. Great photos. Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteHello, I love all the birds I see. Thanks so much for your comment. Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteHappy day to you too Eileen. Grrr it makes me so mad to see the cars on the beaches. I think that is why I like the Oregon beaches better and they are cleaner too. Great shots---I do like watching the Dunlin.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend
MB
Hello, it would be nice if during the spring they would rope off areas where the birds nest. The cars should stay away from certain areas.
DeleteOregon does have pretty beaches too. Thanks so much for your comment. Happy weekend!
Oh an extra PS: I would say that the Hummer was or is a Rufous
ReplyDeleteMB
Thanks for the id help.
DeleteI loved seeing all your waders/shorebirds as well as the deer. I am just beackso was able to link in so thanks for doing that for me whenI was in Malawi. Had a fabulous time, no doubt I wil do posts later on about it. Thanks for hoting and have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteHello, Margaret! So glad you had a great time in Malawi. Thanks for your comment. Happy weekend!
DeleteLove all the photos, Eileen! I am far from being an expert, but I would say a Raven, and a rufous hummer. But, better let the more experienced birders have their say, as I could easily be wrong. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello Marie, thanks so much for the id help. I think you may be right, other are saying the same. Thanks for the comment. Happy weekend to you!
DeleteSo many, what joy to have them there on the beach.,
ReplyDeleteHello, yes, it is a joy! Spring time was a great time to see the birds on the beach. Thanks so much for your visit and comment. Have a happy day and new week ahead.
DeleteGreat post with all those super shore birds and other Saturday Critters. The bill does seem very thick on the bird. That must have been upsetting to see the cars driving on the beach with so many birds in the area. I saw this practice in NC and went on a tour to see the wild horses, didn’t know we would be driving on the beach also. Enjoy your weekend Eileen and thank you.
ReplyDeleteHello, since they allow the cars to drive on the beaches there is nothing one can do. I do feel sad for the birds, some are migrating but some maybe nesting there. Assateague also lets people drive on the beach. Thanks for your comment and visit. Happy weekend to you!
DeleteHave a blessed end of your week, sweetest friend, thank you for the inner joy you always bring me with your wonderful shots !
ReplyDeleteXOXO Dany
Hello Daniela, you are a sweet friend. Thank you for your visit and comment. I wish you a very happy weekend.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post and photos! I love your critters. Deers are så beautiful, and we have them here too.
Happy Saturday, and enjoy your weekend!
Hello, the deer are beautiful critters. I appreciate your visit and comments. Have a happy day and weekend!
DeleteHello Eileen, Grant spotted a raven here in our area recently. He ID'd it by the thicker bill. I'd say your bird in the picture has a thicker bill than that of a crow. I love the plovers and hummingbird. Thanks for hosting this meme. I have a "special" critter this week. Have a wonderful day. Jo
ReplyDeleteHello Jo, I always appreciate your comments and visit. I enjoy seeing your sweet Skabenga too. Thanks for the Raven id help. Enjoy your day and the new week ahead!
DeleteYour hummingbird looks clever and watchful!
ReplyDeleteThe Dunlins are interesting new birds, for me.
Have a great weekend!
Hello, the hummingbirds are amazing and always a treat to see. Thanks for the comment. Have a happy day and weekend!
DeleteI´d say you have a Raven :) It is looking away from you so it does not show the length of the bill. Love all the other birds and critters. Especially the hummer and vaders :)
ReplyDeleteHello, thank you for the Raven id help. I appreciate your visit and comment. Have a happy day and weekend.
DeleteLindas as fotos perto do mar..beijos praianos, chica
ReplyDeleteHello Chica, I do love the beaches and sea. Always something beautiful to see. Thanks so much for your comment. Have a happy day and new week ahead.
DeleteHari OM
ReplyDeletewhat a great collection... can't really be a lot of help based on a photo, but that black fellow looks quite a lot like our UK rooks - a small raven-like bird which can be difficult to separate from a crow unless they are seen together! Let's just say its a corvid. We're on safe ground there!!! YAM xx
Hello Yam, I usually lean to the safe side on bird id's. Thanks so much for your comment. Have a happy day and weekend!
DeleteA great collection of critter photos, Eileen. That is very upsetting about the car driving through.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a nice day.
Hello Mildred, thank you for the comment. Seeing the car so close to the birds was a little upsetting. Have a happy day and weekend!
DeleteA black rain of birds.
ReplyDeleteBut it moves upwards.
Hello, Rainfield! Thanks so much for your visit and comment. Have a happy day!
DeleteYes, I hate to see the birds disturbed by cars, especially when they may be nesting. Have also seen people let their dogs chase flocks like that. I give up when it comes to gull ID and depend upon an expert to show me the fine points. Rufous Hummingbirds have a circular migration up the west coast in spring, following the flowers as they emerge. The return south in fall more inland along the Rockies. In New Mexico they showed up almost on the dot on July 4th. TYhis may be one but Allen's is a possibility out west. Distinguishing the two would be problematic for me. After all that let's just call them seagulls and hummers!
ReplyDeleteHello, Ken! I appreciate your comment and id help. I wish they would ban cars from driving on the beaches during the breeding season. Thanks for the comment. Have a happy day!
DeleteA wonderful series from Ocean Shores and your local beaches. Thank you for hosting and have a beautiful weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello, Nancy! Thanks so much for your comment. I wish you a beautiful weekend!
Delete...I like the Semipalmated Plover.
ReplyDeleteHello Tom, I like them all, lol! Thanks for the comment. Happy weekend to you!
DeleteI don't think I've ever seen a pipit before until today with you photo...if I have, I didn't realize what I was seeing. Awesome images. Yep, the beak on the bird is definitely a Raven's beak!!!
ReplyDeleteHello, I have seen the pipit a few times in Washington State and once in North Carolina. They have pretty marking on the front chest. Thanks for your comment and the Raven id. Have a happy day!
DeleteLove these beach scenes, Eileen! I don’t think that’s a Raven. His beak looks a little too much like a Parrot’s, but I don’t know really!
ReplyDeleteHello Sandi, I always love the beaches. Thanks for the comment and visit. Have a happy day and weekend!
DeleteI am mesmerized by a tiny hummingbird! It's also amazing to see the vast flocks of birds come through. Thank you for these great photos.
ReplyDeleteHello Karen, the Hummingbirds are amazing, I always love to see them. Thanks for the comment. Enjoy your day and weekend!
DeleteThe shore birds are beautiful Eileen, and the Deer, excellent.
ReplyDeleteHello Bob, I love seeing all the shorebirds. Thanks always for your comment and for linking up your post. Have a happy day!
DeleteIt does look scary to see the vehicle on the beach. We have beaches here that you can drive on...seems out of place for those that love to walk. Love that hummer! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteHello Diane, Hubby and I prefer to walk and parked our car on the lot. We would not like to get stuck in the sand. I love the hummers too.
DeleteThanks for the comment. Have a happy day!
I love nature and all God's creation. I enjoyed looking at all your photo's.
ReplyDeleteHello, I too love nature and all God's creatures. Thanks for your visit and comment. Have a happy day!
DeleteHi Eileen. And yes, definitely a Raven but of course I never see hummers so can't help there. It a problem, cars on beaches over here too but not so many. I rather enjoy it when people from out of the area drive on our soft sand beaches, disturb all the waders but then the card get stuck. And then the tide comes in!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend and thanks for the link-up today.
Hi Phil, we enjoy walking so you would never see me driving on the beach. I have seen vehicles stuck in the sand, it does not look good.
DeleteThanks so much for the comment and linking up. Have a great day!
The beach scenes and birds are very special, Eileen. Can't help with the IDs, these birds are quite different to ours native ones here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting and have a great weekend!
Hello Nick, I do enjoy the beaches and birds. Thanks so much for your comment. Enjoy your day!
DeleteLove the shorebirds! I've never seen a hummingbird in a pine tree - very nice!
ReplyDeleteHello Brian, I was surprised to see the hummer so close to the beach. I guess there were flowers nearby. Thanks for the comment and visit.
DeleteEnjoy your day!
Thanks for those wonderful scenes, Eileen. You suit me to a T!
ReplyDeleteHello Cloudia, I always appreciate your comments. I am glad you enjoyed my photos. Have a great day and weekend!
DeleteEileen, dunlins (shorebirds) in flight. Nice capture. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHello, thanks for the comment. I am glad you liked the Dunlins. Have a happy weekend!
DeleteYour shorebirds are so cute! You must visit the shore quite often to get so many great shots. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello Carol, these photos are from a vacation awhile back. I wish we lived closer to the shore. Thanks for the comment. Have a happy weekend!
DeleteI love trees, I was sitting staring at the buds of green on that tree, then scrolled past and read the bird was far away, I had to scroll up and find the bird. did not even see it, even though it is red.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra, the hummers are tiny and can easily be missed. Thanks for the comment. Emjoy your day!
DeleteFabulous short shot! and I love the deer ~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteLove and light,
A ShutterBug Explores ~ aka ~ (A Creative Harbor)
Hello Carol, I love the deer too. Thanks so much for the comment. Have a happy day and weekend!
DeleteThanks so much for hosting & commenting so faithfully every week Eileen!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to visit your blog & see so many different kinds of birds that I wouldn't ever see usually!
Happy weekend!
Hello, Christine! part of the blogging fun is to see new things we do not normally see. Thanks so much for the nice comment.
DeleteHave a great Sunday and new week ahead!
Hi Eileen. I looked up Ravens and Crows...I had no idea they are so similar in appearance. I feel like it could be a Raven also! Your shorebirds photos are really great, and I agree...was there not another route that automobile could have taken so not to scare those birds up like that? Thank you for sharing, and encouraging your readers to research and learn more about the lovely critters that you photograph! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello, part of the fun of these beach towns is that they let people drive on the beach. Hubby and I always enjoy walking, so we park our car in the lot and do our walking on the beach. The Crow and Ravens are very much alike, the beak is one of the differences. Thanks so much for your comment. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
DeleteYes, I suspect that is a raven. Bigger than a crow is too.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the id help and the comment. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
DeleteHello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteThis is such a gorgeous, delightful and soothing series! Thank you so much for sharing, and I hope you are having a great weekend. :)

ReplyDeleteHello Al, thank you for the comment and visit. Happy weekend to you!
DeleteI vote for it being a Raven! Love that wee Hummer, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteHello, thank you for the Raven vote. I think the Raven wins. The hummer is my favorite too. I appreciate the comment and visit.
DeleteHave a happy weekend!
Great images. A shore of any kind is one of the most rewarding and productive habitats - always a delight. In addition to seeing the birds I always love to examine life in the tide pools.
ReplyDeleteHello, Yes I love exploring the beach, tidal pools and seeing all the shorebirds. Thanks so much for your comment.
DeleteHave a happy weekend!
Wow, so many ! Very nice !
ReplyDeleteHello, thanks so much for your visit and comment. Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!
DeleteHello Eileen, it's always fun following along your trips and hikes, with an abundance of critters, birds and deer, (which seemed to not care that you were taking it's picture. That's always a treat. The shoreline is truly something too!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, thanks so much for the nice comment. Hubby and I do enjoy our hikes and I love the beaches. Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!

DeleteI think the weather really gives a unique and interesting look to the birds. And I always have that question about raven or crow....I wonder if they get confused too? :-)
ReplyDeleteHello, we can't always have nice weather and I do not think the birds care at all. Thanks so much for the comment and visit. Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!
DeleteYou took an amazing shot if that little hummingbird...

ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend.
Hello, thank you for the comment and visit. Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!
DeleteI enjoyed seeing these. Sometimes I wonder if animals consider us a pox on the earth.
ReplyDeleteHello, Linda
DeleteI wonder too, how the animals feel. I try to always respect the wildlife. Thank you for the visit and comment. Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!
Yeah, I just hate that they let people drive cars on some of the beaches here. Not safe for humans or birds!
ReplyDeleteHello, I wish they could limit the driving to certain times of the year. The birds use the beaches for breeding season. Thanks for your comment, always appreciated. Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!
DeleteWhen I do go to the beach, I love watching the Plovers scurry along. I must say that flock of birds is pretty substantial, Eileen. You're right the Raven's bill is much thicker. I have a pair that WAS hanging out here but I haven't seen them in a while. I would love to have a pair nest here!!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteHello JP, I love all the shorebirds at the beach. Thank so much for your comment.
DeleteHappy Sunday, enjoy your day!
Eileen
I thought of you! We were birding, half-heartedly, but we'll post photos later. Our main purpose was to see some sheep! The birds are flocking like mad, but happy we've been so warm! cheerio!

DeleteLoved seeing all bird pictures!
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
Hello, thanks so much for your visit and comment. Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!
DeleteThe car makes for a good photo but it's pretty disruptive. I always thought driving on the beach took something away from the landscape and wasn't the safest thing either. It does look like a thick bill to me, so I'd guess Raven.
ReplyDeleteHello Jeanna, I agree the car is very disruptive. Thanks for the Raven id help and for the nice comment. Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!
DeleteGORGEOUS photos, Eileen!!!!! What a beautiful flock of Dunlin!!! I love their black bellies! Kisses, my friend.
ReplyDeleteHello Mia, thanks so much for your nice comment. The Dunlin are cute birds.
DeleteHave a happy day and week ahead,
Eileen

Hello, I will look forward to seeing your photos. Thanks for your visit and comment.
DeleteHave a happy day and week ahead,
Eileen
Wonderful birds -- the pipit looks very delicate, carefully steppping along. I just hate cars on a beach. Not allowed in Oregon anyplace and we were so shocked when we first saw that traveling to Washington beaches (many years ago and we've seen it elsewhere since, it still shocks me).
ReplyDeleteHello Sallie,
DeleteI get upset when I see the cars bothering the birds on the beach. Hubby and I always enjoy walking so we have to avoid the cars too.
Thanks for the comment and visits. They are much appreciated!
Have a happy day,
Eileen
Beautiful photos Eileen, I love their colours. Stunning bird captures and the deer is so cute.
ReplyDeleteHave a marvellous Thursday :)
