Sunset Beach, North Carolina

Hello and Happy Monday, wishing everyone a great new week!

On Nov 2, hubby and I drove to my sister's home in North Carolina. We kept her BIL company for a week while my sister and her hubby went to Bermuda for a week.  We enjoy a day with everyone before they left, we all enjoyed a walk on Sunset Beach.

Below, is a shot of the moon on the day we arrived at my sister's. I could see a Cormorant flying by, right in front of the moon.

We were surprised to see so many butterflies,  we must have caught some migrating down the Atlantic Coast.

If you look closely you can see the butterfly flying just above the sand dunes, we saw hundreds of Monarchs and other butterfly species.

Various shorebirds, Plovers, Terns, Gulls and more seen on Sunset Beach.

It is a 5 mile roundtrip walk down Sunset Beach to the Kindred Spirit Mailbox.

A view of the ocean and beach, it was a beautiful day for a walk.

As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

OK, I want to know who'll be honest and admit they saw that black spot on the moon and tried to wipe it off thinking it was on their computer screen, too....... just sayin'. Great shot, by the way! Have a wonderful day.

What a nice outing. The preserve I visited yesterday (in the rain) was flowing with flutterbys.

It's remarkable that you saw the butterflies on their migration fight. Love the cormorant silhouetted by the moon.

The name reminds me of MY Sunset Beach growing up in San Francisco... we went exploring every Saturday with our Dad. Great shot of the moon...wow! We saw a bunch of butterflies recently too, and wondered if it was migration. Do you know what bird the top right one is? Has me intrigued. Thanks for sharing such a special place.

Love your moon shot, Eileen and the Kindred Spirit Mailbox along the beach. The sand appears to be so white and the water is so inviting (that is to say, for a nice brisk walk along the shore). Have a great week!

Further north of us, right near the coast, the Monarchs all hibernate under a massive stand of pine trees. I Googled NZ Monarchs, and found there are several wintering sites.A beauty beach, and the moon, what a fantastic shot.

Wow, that's some beach Eileen. A wonderful blue sky too. I wish. I've always wanted to witness butterfly migration but too bad it doesn't happen here on the scale of the Monarchs.

You know how much we love that area. Dockside and Boundary House are two of our favorite restaurants.... We stay at Ocean Isle --but have visited the beach at Sunset. We love to walk in the little park there (at the bridge)... In fact, we will be heading that way sometime soon.... Cannot wait!!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

looks like a wonderful place to visit, lot's to see and do. cool that you caught the migration of the butterflies, it seems it is kinda' late but it also seems like they have not followed a pattern this year. it doesn't seem like there was one, great big migration!!!
