Sunset Beach, Part II

Happy Monday, wishing everyone a great day and week ahead!

November is flying by, this Thursday is Thanksgiving. Soon it will be Christmas, are you ready? When do you put up your Christmas tree, do decorate the whole house? Lately I have been feeling less is more, I might just put up a small tree and be done.

I have some more photos from our visit to my sister's in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. I love walks on the beach, watching the birds and hearing the sound of the waves. I hope you enjoy.

Snooze time!

Black Skimmers and Gull friends.

Gulls, Terns and Brown Pelicans on Sunset Beach.

Me and my shadow!

The waves were not big, but it is always nice to listen to the sound of the waves.

All the little brown dots are the shorebirds, like Dunlins, Willets, Semipalmated Plovers and more. We saw large flocks of shorebirds at the end of Sunset beach, I think this was a resting spot for the migrating birds.

As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

  4. I remember the first time I saw a bird standing on one leg like they do sometimes, I assume to rest the other one, and I said "oh, the poor bird has only one leg." Then he put the other one down. Like to say, "ha, ha I have two." I like when they fluff up and tuck their heads, it's just a way of life to them but I think it's so cute. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful adventures.

  5. It always amazes me how the birds could sleep or snooze with only a leg standing! I like your shadow shot! Have a lovely new week!

  6. Looks and sounds wonderful Eileen . . .
Wave sounds have such an enticing pull . . .
Drawing me in to relaxation and thought . . .
I might have to check the Lake Michigan wave sounds in these next days . . .
Plenty of wind predicted to swirl the sound.
    Happy Thanksgiving week . . .

  8. I love the birds and that last beach shot! Since our kids are all grown now, it's less fun to decorate for Christmas. We have a small tree too, and I think that with a few decorations will be enough. Have a wonderful week!

  15. I decorate my nook for Christmas either TG day or the day after.. this year I am skipping the tree in the nook, or have plans to but I am adding something new. I will only do one little tree not the usual two... enjoy your Thanksgiving.

  18. You are so right about the sound of the waves. I think I should have a recording of waves to play when I can't get to sleep. Happy Thanksgiving. I will probably be putting the Christmas tree up during the first week of December.

  19. How these birds can just tuck their heads back like that has always baffled me. Quite flexible!

  24. Beautiful birds.
This year I'm going to decorate as usual since it will be the last Christmas for us in this old house. Makes us all a little sad. I don't do the whole house, just the main living areas.

  29. Looks like a great place for migrating birds and people, too! Love those sweet, sleeping birds. I think I am on the same train of thought as you - simple decorating this year. I always say that and then I end up decorating every room. We will see how I feel. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Eileen! x Karen

  33. Another part of the country where I have not visited. You would love to see the Canada geese fly over. They make quite a spectacle of themselves, honking and chattering, calling to each other. They do fly in the V often lop sided, forming one long line. They are a common sight here this time of year, for I do believe that Northern Colorado is a destination spot for the migrating geese. They will be here all winter. Happy Thanksgiving.

  34. I sure did enjoy looking at all your beautiful photos.
    Don't do much decorating anymore.
It all comes and goes so fast. I enjoy each day and not make a fuss over holidays.

  36. Birds do love the shore. Must be lots of bits and pieces to feed on. I will put up a few decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving at our condo in town. We won't be back until Christmas Eve to celebrate with a good friend. I do most of my decorating in our float cabin home. I use cedar from the trees to make sprays and wreaths. We use battery powered lights (with rechargeable batteries) to make the long dark nights festive. In fact, we like them so much they stay up all year long. - Margy

  37. This is such a lovely post - I love your shadow photo! It's always a treat to see all of your nature photos.

I'll put my wreath with the little white lights on the front door the week after Thanksgiving. And I'll put my Christmas tree up on December 3. Last year I decorated it slowly - it took about a week. I adore my ornaments and like to savor taking them out of their boxes. So I'll do that again this year.

  39. How wonderful, Eileen. I always get a chuckle out of standing-bird photos. They look so serious! I love them. "Dunlins" and "Willets" (I had a school friend whose name was Willet, but I've never known a Dunlin, although I'm sure there's a family of them somewhere. And I particularly like the name "semi-palmated plover"! I've enjoyed this post no end (the photos and the names!)

  43. Eileen - Happy Thanksgiving - I am always thankful for your pictures! We usually decorate the tree and the house at the same time, but this year will be different. Our son does not arrive at our house until December 17, and we don't want to wait that long to decorate the house. He will get to take part in decorating the tree!
