Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is a common bird seen this time of the year.

This is a female Downy Woodpecker at my suet feeder.

On December 20th I happened to glance out my window to find the pretty Pine Warbler on my deck railing.

The Pine Warbler is the only warbler I see during the winter months. I have had these warbler show up in my yard during previous years and snow storms, they must be a hardy little bird.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments this past year !

Vereen Memorial Nature Park

Hello & happy Tuesday!

I wish all that celebrate a Happy Boxing Day!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas, I cooked dinner for my hubby, son and his girlfriend. We had lots of yummy food and my homemade Derby pie and ice cream for dessert. Now we all have to recover from too much food.  I am sharing a park that hubby and visited a few times just across the North Carolina border in Little River South Carolina. It is called the Vereen Memorial Park or Vereen Nature Park. The park consist of 115 acres of forest and marshland.  Here are some scenes from our visits on Nov 5th and Nov 10th.

They have numerous hiking trails and boardwalks. The first day we went the tide was high and part of the trail was underwater. Hubby and I had to backtrack and we took the trail thru the woods and ended up again where the trail was under water.

Most of the birds we saw were the Great Blue Heron and Great Egrets and one Wood Stork.

I believe this is the Northern Bayberry, I have seen it growing in various coastal parks. The berries are enjoyed by many birds, I think I saw a few Yellow-rumped Warblers in these bushes.

The trail takes you up to the Little River and is a popular spot with the fishermen.

Here is a link to my first post on this park we visited with my sister Sunset beach & Vereen Nature Park

I hope you enjoyed our walk at the Vereen Memorial and Nature Park.

Merry Christmas everyone!

These photo were taken on the same day Dec 14th. It was a snowy morning so I did my walking on the treadmill. I saw a blur go by my window, I was not sure what went by. When I finished my walking I looked out my window to see this hawk below.  I am not sure, but I was told it is a Sharp-shinned Hawk. It was small in size.

My version of Where's Waldo, my Dark-eyed Junco tree. How many can you find?

I was able to zoom in on two of the Dark-eyed Juncos sitting close together.

The Sharp-Shinned Hawk decided the back yard was a better setting for eating his meal.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments! I hope you enjoy my post and photos too!

A HodgePodge

Happy Thankful Thursday,

I have not been anywhere lately except for our walks on our local fire roads and on the local bike trail.  The Super moon photos were taken from my deck.

I felt sorry for this Dark-eyed Junco, it appears to have a tick stuck to the side of it's face. I hope it fell off.

November 25th , a scene from our local bike trail.

A house off the bike trail has a big gnome collection, we enjoy looking at during our walk.

November 26th, our walk was at the Hemlock Gorge. A nice trail along the stream.

November 26th,  after leaving the Gorge area we made a quick stop at the top of our lake and the mud flats to look for birds.

Driving home from our walk at the Hemlock Gorge we passed by this barn. Looks like a drive-thru barn.

For the Skywatchers and moon watchers, here is my almost full moon on Dec 2nd.

The Supermoon on December 3rd.

I hope you enjoyed coming along on my walks.

I am thankful for peaceful days with nothing special needing to be done.
I am thankful for the mild days, to enjoy a walk outside.

Winter Wonderland

Happy Monday!
Can you believe we are only a week away from Christmas day? I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season.
We had our first snow on Saturday December 9th. I  was able to enjoy the snow and my backyard birds from my dining room window. It was a winter wonderland.

A cute Tufted Titmouse

Snow covered pine trees in our yard.

A Dark-eyed Junco really is a snow bird.

My deck and a view of the back yard. A snowy winter wonderland.
