Hello, Happy Monday!
We have had some crazy weather lately, one day it was beautiful and in the 70's. Then the temps dropped back down to the 40's and 20's at night. I was able to snap some photos from our deck or the dining room window of the Great Blue Herons. I see them often walking on the tree branches trying to break off pieces to take back to their nest. As far as I can tell there may be 8 heron's nest, maybe more in the neighboring trees.
I took this Great Blue Heron photo from my dining room window.
One day we took a walk on our local fire road, The Pileated Woodpecker did a number of holes in a tree near the trail, you can make out a small bit of lake from the fire road. There are some daffodils growing the woods across from our driveway and the heron's nest can be seen from the fire road.
This is just a 1.1 mile round trip walk from our house to this spot on the fire road.
The Great Blue Heron seen breaking off branches for it's nest.
Here is a Great Blue Heron flying back to the nest, if you look closely you can see a heron sitting on the nest far bottom middle part of the photo.
I've been hearing the Pine Warbler in the forest next to our house, this male Pine Warbler visits my feeders often. The Pine Warbler is a breeder in the forest next to our home.
Thanks for your visit today! I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

We checked our local heronry the other day, but still no sign of activity there even though some birds have returned. Does that Pine Warbler spend the winter in your area? I have never had a warbler at my feeders here although I have several times seen them at feeders in Costa Rica and Panama.
Hello David, I have seen the Pine Warblers here in the winter. I have many photos of them with snow in the background from years past. Ebird questioned my GBBC when I included the Pine Warbler, I had to show photos as proof. Enjoy your day!
Thank you for your lovely comment, dear Eileen. I give the return the compliment: your post are fantastic. I love the captures of the birds.
Happy MosaicMonday, have a nice Week.
The heron looks like he shouldn't be sitting in a tree to me. :) He's too tall or something, like he should not quite be able to balance up there. But he does!
Your birds are beautiful. I saw the holes made by the Woodpecker, nice
Happy Monday
Thanks for dropping by my blog
Much💚love
What a lovely heron...I've never seen one in a tree, but just wading around in marshy areas. So these nest up in trees obviously!
Okay...you have herons just outside your dining room window? And I have to drive a few miles to the bay to find them? Not fair (jk).
ah I can see that spring is starting to creep into your world. I thought autumn was coming here but today it was back to hot summer! Have a fabulous week Eileen and thank you for visiting my blog last week. Also about nature walks co-incidentally!
the heron photos are fantastic and I love that spot only a mile from your house... so beautiful. we are cloudy and cool today, 60 going to 66 as a high, and the past few days were 80's..
Really wonderful photos. Thank you for sharing them with us.
God bless.
Dazzling nature shots and feathered friends are exquisite ~ forgive my tardiness commenting ~ still not feeling good

Amazing Heron in the tree, have a beautiful week.
I love the heron in the tree. The ones I see are always in the water or on rocks.
Beautiful photos, Eileen. Have a wonderful day and new week.
Great set of photos. You're lucky to have so many Herons nearby, to photograph them.
Amazing to have heron so close
the heron is so big, bright and elegant, marvelous captures!!!
i don't get pine warblers, what a beautiful bird!!!
Such beautiful photos of the herons and Pine Warbler. That Heron in landing mode is quite spectacular! What a joy to see these great birds from your dining room window, Eileen!
How wonderful to see the herons at work like that! I have only ever seen them on the hunt for food!
Wow1 Amazing to have a blue heron so close by! Great shots.
well as far as the birds are concerned, spring is on its way and nesting material is being gathered
Stunning photos!
Have a nice week

The pine warbler is a wonderful shade yellow with a hint of green. It must be thrilled at the good food you're dishing out. :)
So much beauty on your door step. Enjoy your week.
I saw herons in a tree for the first time last year. Great photos!
It looks like your forest contains a good variety of trees...old and new.
The heron shots are wonderful.
Great shots! And to think you got them from your home! That makes them even better. I always find it sort of startling when I see a Great Blue Heron land in a tree...they just look so ungainly to me.
Great photos and that first one is my favorite.
WOW how cool to have a heron hanging out in your yard!!!
courtship and nesting has begun and it is always fun to watch...enjoy.
Eileen - Just amazing to have such a view out of your dining room window!!! And to see active nesting only a mile from your house. Do they prefer to break off branches rather than pick them up off the ground? Thanks for sharing these photos with Mosaic Monday - nature is stunning!
Lovely photos. We've been experiencing strange weather too
Beautiful pictures. Everyday I enjoy in the morning with cup of tea watching the around the bird feeder in my backyard.
I think the bare branches of trees are so artistic, but right about now I'm ready for some green leaves for a change. - Margy
Hello,
The birds in your yard is impressive! The Heron is so beautiful.
Happy Tuesday!
Hello,
herons in a tree always seem to me odd, as I consider them ground birds. But of course they can fly wherever...
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice rest of week!
Great heron shots! We have them up here in CT, I see them along the water but haven't witnessed the nest building!
Fantastic photos, and the weather has been crazy here too, one day hot, next day cold but at least the sun has been shining and am looking forward to it warming up a bit again. This certainly is a lovely trail you walk on. I noticed the woodpecker holes at the top of the trees on our last walk. Do you take in your suet cake in at night? I put two out and the raccoons made off with mine. I had them in pretty tight and was very surprised that they managed to get them out. I guess I should never underestimate their tenacity :) Thanks for the lovely post Eileen and enjoy the rest of your week.
Cute portrait of the heron. I love the mosaic Eileen.
Te deseo un buen martes.
Besos.
Hello Denise, I do put all my feeders away at night. I have had the raccoons run off with a feeder or they break them into pieces. They are thieves and very strong critters. Thanks for the visit and comment.
Hope your weather is settling down Eileen! I think your Great Blue Heron pic is truly great!

Yellow Warbler and Great Blue Heron -- what gorgeous neighbors you, Eileen. :-)
Hi Eileen, Excellent photos! You know I love the Great Blue Heron and how wonderful it is that you can get a great picture like that first one right from your home! Wow! Eileen, you live in a beautiful area and we are lucky you are taking pictures and sharing them with us on your blog. Thank you and Thank you for your kind comments on my blog. I hope you have a happy remainder of the week! John
Hi Eileen. It appears that your are having similarly crazy weather to our own. But the herons are teaching us a lesson maybe - " Just get on with it, spring is not far away" I hope so. It's lovely that you have the herons as your neighbours.
Beautiful photographs and mosaics.
Love the Great Blue Heron.
All the best Jan
You have a much better view from your window than I have from mine! Splendid captures here, simply breathtaking!
You did a good job catching blue heron flying back to the nest. Great picture.
