Happy Monday,
I am sharing another day tour from our Iceland trip. This tour was 14 hours round trip from Reykjavik to the South Coast and the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. We stopped at two waterfalls and at the Black Sand Beach in the town of Vik. Our tour also included a boat ride on the Glacier Lagoon.
Temps on this day were mid 50's to 60°. It always felt warm with the sun shining. Our first stop was at the Skógafoss Waterfalls. The spray from the falls felt like rain.
The town of Vik was our lunch stop and our dinner stop. Behind the restaurants and souvenir shop was the Black Sand Beach. I saw some Black-headed Gulls and there
were some Pelagic Cormorant near some rock formations.
One stranger among the Black-headed Gulls.
I know I am reaching for this id, but I am guessing beside a gull the other birds are the European Shag.
After eating, I walked around outside and found these cute White Wagtails on the parking lot.
The White Wagtail is a lifer for me, yay!
Looking out the bus window, there were many waterfalls seen on the cliffs. Also, on the cliffs I could see the Northern Fulmars and there were actually some sheep seen high up on the cliffs.
At the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, we went on a lagoon boat tour. It was neat to ride past some of the icebergs. It rained during our boat tour, I was told by the guide there were some sea ducks and seals in the water. I only saw them from a distance. With the boat moving and the rain, photos with my camera was not happening. Hubby took these with my iphone.

A view of the icebergs from the shore. The icebergs are pieces of the glacier breaking off and floating in the lagoon.
Now that we were back on the bus, the sun and sky cleared up. This is a view of the Glacier. The black line on the right side is volcanic ash from the past eruptions.

ReplyDeleteHello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos from Iceland! The iceberg are strange to see. The waterfalls are very pretty. I love the wagtail ♡
Have a wonderful week!
Wonderful sights! The icebergs look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI have seen Northern Fulmars, but only odd birds here and there, so I think I would have enjoyed seeing them so frequently as much as any part of the trip.
ReplyDeleteWonderful place and shot.. happy weekend
ReplyDelete...we all share the same world, let's take care of it.
ReplyDeleteOh, ba the pic of the fall is grand! I can almost hear it. You make some wonderful photos to treasure!! Wishing you well!
ReplyDeleteJust amazing - you are making me want to go there. I know our friends here were over the top enthusiastic about there visit - and it seemed like one more picture postcard house with waterfall after another. Happy travels Eileen, thankyou for taking us to Iceland, and thank you for visiting my blog this week.

ReplyDeleteThe Falls are so impressive! I liked seeing the sheep (of course!!).

ReplyDeletei have never seen nor heard of a black sand beach...it looks so odd because of what we are use to!!
ReplyDeletei like the temperatures, those are perfect for me. i thought it would be colder!!
congrats on the wagtail, how exciting and your pictures are wonderful!!! you sure did pack a lot of fun activities in to your trip!!
You have been on a wonderful adventure. I’ve watched glaciers in Alaska cracking and melting into the sea. It’s an amazing sight but with serious global implications.
ReplyDeleteWonderful landscapes but the waterfall is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing place! We were reading books written by an Icelandic author. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteWonderful waterfall & other pics. Thank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteHello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos from your trip to Iceland.
Nice to see this, I would like to do this once with my husband together.
I now know through your photos what I can expect a bit.
I think we will do this once next year.
Best regards, Irma
That waterfall is spectacular. I would be as interested in the birds as the scenery too.
ReplyDeleteTolle Einblicke in eine mir fremden Welt.
ReplyDeletemy Mosaic
I love the waterfall photo. The greens and water make a great contrast.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely trip!
Have a great week!

Helt fantastiska bilder av Islands natur, den är originell och liknar inget annat. Du är duktig på att identifiera fåglar, jag gissar att några är helt nya för dig.
ReplyDeleteHa det gott!
beautiful photos! The waterfalls are spectacular and the white wagtails are so cute! (We get their close relatives pied wagtails here)
ReplyDeleteThose ice bergs -- I've never seen anything like that before. This is truly a remarkable country for its scenic views.
ReplyDeleteHello, Nice to read your post.

The tours are a great way to see a lot! Love imagining the spray from those huge waterfalls and seeing all the different birds!

ReplyDeleteThe waterfall is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteReally like seeing the icebergs. Wow!
Fascinating place, kind of a moonscape actually and very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Eileen - love the blue icebergs and the treeless hills covered in waterfalls! So nice to get a 'lifer' in, too. I like their black legs :) Amazing to see the volcanic ash in the glacier, too. xx Karen
ReplyDeleteWow! You really had a wonderful trip. I love all those water falls and of course the Wagtail lifer super stuff!
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing landscape. So glad you got to go and have these tours.
ReplyDeleteI like watching huge chunks of ice drop off a glacier . By the afternoon things have melted enough so that huge house sized chunks break off and shatter on their way down.
ReplyDeleteWe were there a few years back! So spectacular!
ReplyDeleteEileen - an epic journey, and I am so glad you are bringing us along for the ride! I am fascinated by the red building in the first collage - a church? Those are quite some icebergs - gives you a sense of how thick the glacier is! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful sights you saw on your trip. Lots of variety, too, with the black sand beach and a lifer bird! Hooray.
ReplyDeleteFotografias fantásticas e aproveito para desejar uma boa semana.

ReplyDeleteHow strange to see images from your trip and comparing them with mine a few years ago. We had much more ice on the Laggoon when I visited and in Vik we also visited the beach on the other side of the cliffs. And, yes, the cheep like to climb the mountainsides. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! The waterfall is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting trip. The photo of the iceburgs with people in the foreground give you an idea of their size.
ReplyDeleteI’m loving every minute of this tour Eileen! Congrats on the lifer, the wagtail is a cute bird!
