Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
I have a mish-mash of critters and photos to share. Another sighting of the Red-shouldered Hawk, Pileated Woodpecker continues to visit our wood pile, a flock of Eastern Bluebirds visited our yard for just a bit. I also have some photos from our time watching the grand-dogs Nibbles and Winnie the Corgi.
1. I think I lost one of my Dark-eyed Juncos, it is not the best photo. It was taken through my kitchen window. Not sure, if this is the Red-shouldered Hawk I have been seeing hanging around the yard.
Update: thanks to Ken of Rosyfinch Ramblings for the Cooper's Hawk id below.
2. The Pileated Woodpecker can been seen almost daily in the back part of our yard.
3. Pileated Woodpecker, photo taken on Valentine's Day.
4. One day I noticed 5-6 Eastern Bluebirds in our yard, they checked out two of the birdhouses. It was a cold snowy day, I think they were looking for warm protection from the weather.
5. Two male Eastern Bluebirds, perched on the wood pile. One Bluebird was checking out another one of my birdhouses.
6. I think this is a female Eastern Bluebird checking out one of our birdhouses.
7. We spent a couple of night at my son's home watching the grand-dogs when our DIL went into labor. Our grandson Wyatt was born on 2/15.
Nibbles is a sweetie giving up her bigger bed for Winnie the Corgi. They are both sweet dogs, it was fun watching the grand-dogs for a few days. It will be interesting to see how they react to their human brother Wyatt.
Thanks
to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate
everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

ReplyDeleteHello John, Thank you for the comment and visit! The Bluebirds are beautiful, they were my spark bird.
DeleteHave a great day and a happy weekend!
Pretty Pileated Woodpecker and Eastern Bluebirds. I am sure Nibbles and Winnie can sense the excitement over their human brother Wyatt and is impatiently waiting to welcome him and to do a thorough check over him. Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nancy! Nibbles seems to already be very protective of her human baby brother.
DeleteHave a great day and a happy weekend!
What sweet photos! I love watching the birds. swe have huge ancient pine trees in our yard. They are over 50 years old. This past snowstorm I Noticed birds chirping. I think there are babies in one of the trees and I Understand why they are there. Because the trees are so full and probaly warmer then most trees that are leave free int he wintertime. SO nice to visit you. Hoping your weekend is wonderufl.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment and visit! I love the big old pine trees, they are beautiful.
DeleteHave a great day and a happy weekend!
A new grandson, what joy, and to babysit the doggies, that is something that is so valued, rtaher than having them in a boarding kennel. Congratulations on the new arrival.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jean! We are blessed!
DeleteHave a great day and a happy weekend!
Hello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for your Dark-eyed Juncos. The nature is merciless, but the Hawk need food too. The Corgi is a sweet dog. Beautiful photos!
Happy weekend!
Thank you Marit! Yes, the hawks need to eat too.
DeleteWinnie the Corgi is a sweetie!
Have a great day and a happy weekend!

nice to see your Red-shouldered Hawk. I rarely see raptors nowadys and when I do they are far away flying in the wrong direction. I really like your read-headed woodpecker. So easy to see. :)
ReplyDeleteThe image of the Eastern Bluebird pairs are really great and those so beautiful birds.
I´m sure your grand-dogs will love and care for their new "brother". I´m glad all is well with all of you.
Take care!
Lindos os passaros e os cachorros bem comportados.
ReplyDeleteTomara eles gostem do pequeno "irmãozinho" Wyatt. Como ele está? Crescendo bem?
Tudo de bom pra todos vocês! beijos, chica
Hello Chica,
DeleteWyatt is doing very well, he gained 10 ounces so far. Thanks for asking about him!
I asked my son to send me photos often, so I can see him virtually grow each day.
Thanks for the comment! Have a happy day!
Great to have Pileated Woodpeckers in your yard/ The had been quiet much of the winter in our local wetlands nut suddenly have become vocal. Maybe breeding season is getting underway. The Bluebirds are so beautiful. That is cooper's Hawd-- slender, long tail with distinctive pattern and small discrete breast markings
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken! I am happy to see the Pileated Woodies in my yard, today there were 2 of them at the same pile of wood.
DeleteHave a great day and a happy weekend!
The Woodpecker is my favorite, but certainly they´re all beautiful creatures.
ReplyDeleteBig congratulations on the new addition to your family!

Hello Eileen, Congratulations on the birth of your grandson. You have a great selection of birds as always. The Bluebirds are so pretty, and the Pileated Woodpecker is a beauty. Love that flash of red on their heads. Your pics of the doggies are lovely. I once had a Corgi, they are sweet natured dogs and very intelligent.
ReplyDeleteEileen I posted two posts, but it was a mistake. I was trying to post my latest of the Squirrel, but those came up instead.
Thank you, I fixed the link!

Good capture photos of hawk, woodpecker and especially bluebirds! They flit through the bushes and trees, and always miss my attempts to photograph their pretty colors. Hope you have some roost and rear their young in one of your boxes.

ReplyDeleteThank you Ranten!
DeleteHave a great day and a happy weekend!
I think it must be quite unique for someone to look out of their back window almost every day. You are blessed Eileen. Also, Eastern Bluebirds look a little fragile to be hanging around when the weather is so cold. No wonder they took shelter in the bird box. The corgis look quite relaxed but I think they will wake up when they see young Wyatt. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and thanks for the link today.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil!
DeleteIt is a treat to see the Bluebirds, even if they are only here for a short time.
Have a great day and a happy weekend!
Now that's a photo of sacrifice for that big doggie to allow little doggie on his big bed while he takes the smaller bed. Love those sweet bluebirds. Hope the end of February treats you well. Congratulations again on your precious grandson!
