Saturday's Critters # 429

 Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Hubby and I enjoy some walks on our own without the grand dogs. On these walks I can enjoy looking for the birds and taking photos. These photos are from a walk on the fire road to the lake, I call this trail the Eagle nest trail. The Bald Eagles have been nesting here for years, I hope they have a successful nesting this year.

1. Below are the pair of Bufflehead Ducks, Canada Geese, Common Merganser in flight, a flock of Common Mergansers, White-throated Sparrow, Cedar Waxwings, American Robin and the Bald Eagles.

2. The pair of Bald Eagles are on the nest, later one flew off and sat on a nearby tree.

3. The nest and this Eagle were across the lake and a good distance for my camera.

4. We did see this pair of Buffleheads near the cove.

5. A Common Merganser flew back and forth, not far from the Eagle's nest.

6. The Canada Geese are always seen near this little island in the lake.

7. We spooked a large flock possibly 20-30 Common Mergansers, I was able to catch some of them as they were flying away from the cove. I counted around 16 in the photo below.

8. We also saw a flock of American Robins off the fire road, they found some berries to eat.

9. On the fire road walking back to our car, we saw a flock of Cedar Waxwings. They found some berries and were chowing down.

10. Prettyboy Reservoir, is one of three reservoirs owned by Baltimore City.  Prettyboy is the second largest and most remote of the three reservoirs located in Baltimore county.

We never know what we will see at our lake, last year in this same spot I found a lone Long-tailed Duck. There are fire roads all around the reservoir.

Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

Thanks to all my visitors and for your past and present comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves and respects wildlife. Thank you for linking up a critter post.

Such wonderful sightings, I haven't seen any of them.

Nice birds! It's fun to see waterfowl in a place like that, where they can find food. The robins here are also still in flocks, but soon they will return from the woods to city gardens, for their summer life and breeding in their territories.

yet again great collection of birds seen and photographed on your walk. There is great excitement in England as an American Robin has landed there. I would have loved to see those Waxwings Eileen. I do not think many came into N.I this year and I certainly did not see one. Thanks for hosting, take care and have a great week ahead.

I would have loved to see the waxwings Eileen. We've had none from Europe this winter. And no, I'm not going to twitch the American Robin, it's too far away and I have ringed a number of them in Canada. I see that even though the Eagle was a long way off, on the other side of the lake, it was watching you watching him. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for the link again.

Love those eagles. Nice to have them so close to home. The Nest I was following in Florida before moving to Connecticut just lost tow of its three eaglets, probably due to completion with the oldest and strongest one which survived.

I love that you saw a flock of waxwings ; they are so fun to watch when they're eating (we've seen them feeding each other berries). I always wonder if "our" eagles might fly up your way after they fledge -- it always feels a bit like a loss when they leave the nest after we've watched them grow for a whole season and of course we never do know where they go. That fire road is a wonderful one for a "neighborhood" walk and I bet your granddogs love it also.

eileeninmd said...

Thanks Sallie! I did love seeing the Cedar Waxwings, it is amazing how fast they can clear a bush of it's berries. Maryland does see lots of eagles during their migration. Many spend the spring/summer season around the Chesapeake Bay! The grand-dogs do love their walks. Take care, enjoy your day and week ahead.

Loving the birds especially the water fowl....hear the red-wings returned in the middle of a snow storm but it appears they were correct as the temps are seeming to stay up and most of the snow has melted....still cold and windy, but the sun is definitely warmer.
