Saturday's Critters # 432

 Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Our weather has been all over the place, the temperatures can drastically change. It is officially Spring, even though it does not always feel like it.

1.  On March 8th  our high temperature for the day was in the 70's, the bull frog sounds were all over our yard and at the neighbors. We found at least 6 of these frogs in our little pond. The next day our temperature was back down to a high in 40's.

2. March 8th photos continue, more frogs and their eggs.

3. March 8th, after walking around the yard we took the grand-dogs for a 2 mile round trip walk on the fire road.

4. While walking on the fire-road I could hear the Pine Warblers calling. It is nice to hear them again, in my yard I also heard my first of the season Eastern Phoebe.

5.  March 9th our temperatures dropped and we had some snow. I am not sure what happened to the frogs and their eggs in our pond. Can they handle freezing temperatures. I hope they survived. I happened to notice this Hawk sitting in a tree between our yard and the neighbors yard. I wonder if the hawk was eating frogs.

6. Below the photos show the same hawk possibly the Red-shouldered Hawk from March 9th and on March 11th I saw the Hermit Thrush out my front window. It likes sitting in one of our Rhododendron bushes next to the house.

7. March 11th, a closer look at the Hermit Thrush outside my window.

Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

Thanks to all my visitors and for your past and present comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves and respects wildlife. Thank you for linking up a critter post.

Here is my linky:

I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding   Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!

I hope the frogs are surviving. There are many rumors of terrible frog extinctions. Nice photos, and thank you for hosting Saturday's Critters. I had several bird posts this week as I was birding in your area, but now I'm home again.

The sound of the frogs can be very noisy. Hope the frogs and eggs survived the cold temperature and also not ended up as food the for hawk and other birds. I am sure your grand-dogs enjoyed the walk on the fire road. Thank you for hosting. Happy weekend.

Hello Eileen,

I guess you live in a much warmer place than here where I live. It is lovely to watch the small bullfrogs, and they are so cute. Take care, and have a happy weekend!

Hi Eileen,
Great series of photos showing you from your walk.
Very special the frogs in the pond, I see many new frogs will be added soon.
I really like the hawk and hermit thrush.
Would you mind posting my link??
Greetings Irma

nice to see the frogs. I have not seen a frog in many years now. Eggs I have not seen since, at least 30 years. It´s a pitty really. :( I´m not sure if they canhandle freezing temperatures.
You are soo lucky to have both hawk and trush in your garden.
Take care!

Funny to see the frogs in your pond. I saw one here dead along the ski slope: he woke up too early from hybernation.
The Hawk looks quite in search of food, really.
Happy weekend and keep safe!

Hello Eileen,:=) Our weather is up and down like yours, the only difference being we don't get snow, but we get a warm sunny day one day, and cold days with very unpleasant westerly winds and rain, the next. I hope the frogs in your pond survived. The Red-shouldered Hawk was a good sighting, and I like your mosaics.Having bushes near windows is certainly a sure bet to see birds perched there, and the Hermit Thrush is proof of this, and your capture is lovely. Nice to see your Grand-dogs on the Fire road again. Two miles is a good work out for them. Lovely post Eileen, and many thanks for hosting.

Good to hear that you have Eastern Phoebe and Hermit Thrush. Won't be long before they show up here, and the days are slowly warming now.

The hermit thrush looks cute! The weather seems unstable there, and perhaps it is in the middle of the season's change. This is the first time I've taken a closer look at frog eggs. Have a great weekend.

These photos are beautiful and shows me how we can admire the nature in different way. Well, even I have seen frogs before I never thought of looking at them carefully. But, these pictures reminded me that they are also part of our nature. It's interesting to see the hawks and lovely dogs as well.
Have a great weekend!

Those look like wood frogs! Our frog pond is still frozen, but the wood frogs are usually the first to wake up. I love the thrush. Thanks for hosting! It is so good to see the critters arise!

Kenneth Cole Schneider said...

That Red-shouldered Hawk is very happy to resume its usual diet of reptiles and amphibians, much easier than chasing after birds. Our weather has also had its ups and downs here in Connecticut. Will look forward to hearing and seeing some warblers-- so far none have been present.

That’s quite a swing in weather temperatures. I hope the eggs survived. I read this online: “Frogspawn can usually cope with a bit of cold weather, if a pond freezes, often the top layer of spawn closest to the surface will freeze but below the surface it will survive."

MadSnapper said...

the hermit thrush is adorable, so cute. your granddogs look so happy, as I would be on that fireroad. I don't think I could walk 2 miles, and neither could Bob or Beau.. we have to keep our walks to 20 to 30 minutes..we need practice I think.

Good morning Eileen it's such a hopeful sign seeing your sweet little swimmers enjoying life and lucky you temperatures in the 70's we haven't been that lucky and right now it's a blustery 19 degrees but our sun is finally shining. Those trees will be changing soon enough on your fire road and I'm excited for that around here too. Enjoy your weekend, I hope you have better spring like weather.

Phil Slade said...

Your temperatures and associated weather seem all over the place Eileen. It's good you have the fire roads as an amenity and to provide at least some shelter from unexpected snowfalls and cold winds. We have just warmed up this week but don't expect it to last.

I love the frog pics, swimming just like I used to do! Have a great Sunday and thanks for the picture party.

I've kind of wondered myself what frogs and other critters do when the temperature plunges after a warm spell in the spring.

Love the views of the hawks and the other birds. Glad you can take your granddogs on walks. Our dogs are elderly and can only go for a mile when the weather is cool. But they love it.

Thank you for hosting!!

The dogs must be having a grand time with you. The poor frogs are hating this weather like the rest of us are. Thanks for hosting us and for all your nice comments, Eileen.

I heard the spring peepers about a week or so ago...always so good to hear them. I stopped at this one mini-pond and looked and looked from the road but could not see a single frog. I hope yours survive...if you remember, let us know. I bet the granddogs love the walks you two take them on!

Don't frogs go into a suspended animation in freezing weather? I imagination they survive in the 40s.
