Saturday's Critters # 486

 Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Happy Easter!  🐇🐰🥚

March 8th, hubby and I went on a boat tour to the Marietas Islands.  We saw so many wonderful sights on this tour I am breaking up the trip into two posts. The photos were from two docks, we were first on the boat at the Nuevo Vallarta Marina, then we picked up more people at the Puerto Vallarta dock. We had a great sightings of the whales and birds in flight on our way to the Marietas Islands.

1. In the mosaic below are photos of the dock, a Magnificent Frigatebird, Pirate Ship and Cruise ships both at the dock, lots of Terns, Gulls and Brown Pelicans.

Click on images for better viewing.

2. Magnificent Frigatebird perched on top of a boat.

3.   At the Puerto Vallarta docks, I saw the Terns. I saw on ebird that both the Royal Tern and the Elegant Terns are seen at the Puerto Vallarta cruise port.  For some reason they all look similar to me, I do see some that have a lighter color gray.

4. Laughing Gull, Brown Pelican and Terns.

5. I am a little obsessed with Terns. Are they Royal Terns or Elegant Terns, or a mix of both? I am pretty sure they are not Caspian Terns, which are larger in size with a thicker heavy bill.

6.   Some views of the whales sighted on the way out to the Marietas Island in the Bay of Banderas.

7. I went from looking at the whales to looking up in the sky at the Blue-footed Boobies. These birds seem to be attracted to the water around the boat, they would dive into the water right next to the boat.

8. It was fun watching these birds flying low over our boat.

9. Which way to look, up or down. Of course, I was looking up at the Blue-footed Boobies.

"Inside us all patiently waiting, sits a tiny little adventurous bird."

Your whale watching and birding cruise looks lovely! I am a big fan of whales, and also love birds, but I don’t like to go on small boats.
Thank you for hosting all the critters.

Great boat trip! Those terns can be challenging. Having lived inland all these years I lack experience in identifying them. That little cluster of three at the far right of the third photo is particularly interesting, as one has a particularly long bill. Also, whether the eye is in front of the black cap or enclosed within it is an identifying characteristic. Some clearly have the eye out in front of the black. In life, the whole bunch would have flown away by now and I would be all the more perplexed.

Happy Easter! Thank you William! Have a great weekend.

Hello Eileen :=)
What an amazing boat tour, with the whales and all the sea birds. I would have loved to go on a trip like you did, with so many different sightings. The Frigatebird is one I have never heard of, but I have heard if not seen all the others. Beautiful photo of all the Terns together, there is something about the soft lighting in this photo which is lovely. Great shots of the Blue-footed Boobies, it must have been such an enjoyable experience to see them swooping low over the boat.
Have a Happy Easter Eileen, and thank you so much for hosting.

Great to get out on the ocean, Eileen, and I am sure the Blue-footed Boobies were sheer delight. You will have to invest in a camera with a bigger zoom to provide a little more detail to help with tern ID. All the best - David

What a wonderful boat tour to the Marietas Island, dear Eileen!
You have seen magnificent animals and soo many terns. I'm no bird connoisseur, but as far as I know, elegant terns have "more hairstyle" compared to royal terns 😉 - I'll send you two links here:
Royal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_tern#/media/File:Royal_Tern.jpg
Elegant: https://www.pinterest.at/pin/316518680066171315/
Funnily enough, I'm also posting a boat trip (in Costa Rica). There are no whales to be seen here, but dolphins ❤️ and also a brown pelican and a few other birds... And more animals on land...
I'm a little late: thanks for hosting and
Happy Easter 🐣🐰🪺!

Such gorgeous winged wonders. I love the Terns too and till date have seen the River Tern. They are listed as Vulnerable in the IUCn directory.
This sounds like such a lovely day away on the boat.

I will be joining you with my critters later this week, birds and an easter Bunny to boot.

I wish you wonderful new beginnings post Easter and much love and joy always.
