Welcome to Saturday's Critters! Hello and Happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I have just two more days of Arizona photos, more critters for you to enjoy. These are from April 27th and the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson. It was a great zoo, I enjoyed seeing lots of wonderful animals and even some wild birds seen in and around the zoo.
1. The Chilean Flamingo, it is said these flamingos are in the decline. The disturbance of the nest and illegal taking of the eggs. Also water levels and climate change have an affect on these wild birds.
2. The Chilean Flamingo exhibit was nice, they are lovely birds.
3. In the Aviary, I saw two Sun Bitterns, Motmot, Roseate Spoonbill and a Black-necked Swan. There were lots of birds, flying around and very hard to capture with my camera.
The wild birds seen flying free at the zoo were the Vermilion Flycatcher, various hummingbirds, a raptor and the Black-crowned Night Heron.
4. The young giraffe below born to Penelope (Penny) is named Moyo was born on January 15th and was the first giraffe born in the zoo in 24 years. The Reid Park Zoo is doing their part in saving animals from extinction.
5. The young giraffe named Moyo with it's Mama Penny. Moyo is the Swahili word for heart.
6. The Reid Park Zoo is committed to the conservation of endangered African elephants. The baby elephant's name is Meru, named after Tanzania's Mount Meru the 5th highest peak in Africa.
7. The baby elephant Meru was born March 8th 2024, weighing I assume a healthy 265 pounds. The baby elephant is well cared for by Mama Semba and big sisters Nandi and Penzi.
8. A Meerkat portrait, adorable zoo critter. The Meerkat is a member of the mongoose family.
These are called Aldabra Tortoise, endemic to the island of Aldabra off the coast of Africa.
The Lion reminded of Iris's Henry the lion.
I will do a part two later sharing our visit to the Reid Park. I hope you enjoyed my critters.
I am linking up to Heidrun's Mosaic Monday I hope you can stop by and visit Heidrun and check out the Mosaic Monday post.

I love zoos, but I’ve never been to that one. I liked the birds you showed — especially the four that are in one composite because I have seen the Sunbittern and Motmot in Costa Rica, the Roseate Spoonbill in Florida, and a Black-necked Swan on a trip to Patagonia. I remember the excitement of seeing the Sunbittern on our most recent trip, as it’s hard to find.
Thanks for hosting Saturday Critters… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
The flamingoes are most gorgeous
I hope there is a way to help the Chilean Flamingos. Always love seeing elephants and baby animals. So many lovely critters and you took some wonderful photos there. I look forward to seeing photos from rest of your travels. Thank you for hosting and have a wonderful weekend!

Greetings, Happy Weekend.
Dear Eileen, another wonderful post. I read every paragraph with enthusiasm.
It's been far too long since my last visit to the zoo... so I'm delighted with your post. Exotic animals that have also become rare and have a chance in this protected environment. The zoo can offer that too. Thanks for sharing.
Hugs by Heidrun ...and wishing a very good week
Hello Eileen,
A beautiful series of photos from your visit to the Reid Park Zoo.
So cute the elephants with the little one.
I also think the flamingos are very beautiful.
I wish you a nice weekend.
Greetings Irma
The Flamingos are so beautiful. I have seen giraffes in a big Zoo here in Norway. It's very nice that a new giraff is born after 24 years! The lion looks so peaceful. Beautiful photos!
Take care, and enjoy your weekend!
Thank you this was a wonderful visit through this special and important zoo and Henry sure is delighted to see his companion!
I lost a lot of my hearing on my right ear and have balancing Problems. My friend suggested to train standing on one leg.
I joked "like a dingo". She sent me "D🦩" as my Hubby´s name is Ingo. Have a great weekend!
The final picture of the lion, with bars clearly visible, evokes great sadness. This is what we have reduced African wildlife to.

Yoko
What wonderful babies in that zoo, a giraffe and an elephant! That would have made my day! A friend drives to the zoo in TN near Johnson City where a baby giraffe was born this winter. So good to see them!
Beautiful photos once again, Eileen, with a great range of critters. Those flamingoes are every elegant and I always enjoy catching sight of a spoonbill. Zoos are fantastic places to do conservation work and to help endangered species overcome the dangers of extinction. Thanks for hosting and have a great day! (Nick from MAP).

Thank you Lea, for your link and comment.
Take care, enjoy your weekend.
Why would someone take the flamingo eggs? To eat them, or to hatch them?
Thanks for the comment and visit! I think the eggs are stolen for both reasons, to eat them and to raise them to sell them illegally. Have a great weekend.
There is nothing like a good zoo and it looks like you found a great one with a variety of birds and animals. I've also noticed in the zoos I have visited that a variety of wild birds seem attracted to the area. I also love how zoos cooperate with each other trying to save species.
Flamingos might be my favorite bird at a zoo. They are just so photogenic.
It's time for me to visit our Tulsa Zoo again. They have two geocaches on the grounds so I can multi-task.
Thank you for hosting.
love the baby elephant best of all, the giraffe heart baby and all the critters are tied for first place ha ha.. I do love all animals. flamingos and spoonbills are so beautiful to me. you had something for everyone today from small to very large..

Beautiful critters!
Happy weekend!
Thank you for your link and comment. Take care, enjoy your day and the week ahead.
The Flamingoes are gorgeous and I love the Spoonbill. You can see so much more at a zoo and I haven't been to one in years. Better wait until it's cooler though here! Love seeing your critters and I looked at last week and saw you had a new grandbaby. I'm so happy for you!
Ahhh...what fun to see the young giraffe and elephant! Such a great variety of birds and critters. Enjoy your Saturday and the rest of the weekend, Eileen.

Quite a change from your usual critters, Eileen. It is good to see the breeding programs working.
I always find flamingos very beautiful and elegant. What's the difference between a turtle and tortoise?
Not generally a fan of zoos but this one appears educational and the critters certainly seem well looked after. Also, how could I not love a giraffe named Penelope no matter where I find her!
Thank you Debbie, for your critter link and comment.

Eileen, Yes, we have had some smoke but, at this moment the AQI (Air Quality Index) is 26, which is “good”. It is not good in Eastern Washington and north into Canada. I believe you have some friends/relatives out here and if you would like to see the map showing regional conditions, it is at this link …

I appreciate your replies to the comments. John
Hi Eileen!
Sorry I am linking one day late--I was participating ina volunteer event yesterday and did not get online. The Tucson Zoo looks beautiful and your photos showed the wonderful variety of animals there. I just finished reading the historical fiction book "West With Giraffes" about the journey the first giraffes took from NY to San Diego--great book!
Oh I didn't know there were different types of flamingos. The baby elephant is so cute! Enjoy your week. Happy snapping and thankyou for your blog link up again today.

I love Zoo's but usually feel sorry for the animals although some of them may be better off in a Zoo with no threats.I hope they find some hope for the Flamingos..Fun post!!
Thank you Missy, for your link and comment. I do not like the tiny cages but many of the zoos have these large habitats now. I feel a little better that most of these animals have been born in captivity, they were never free animals to roam. Take care, enjoy your day!
Dearest Eileen; I LOVE pink color (P;) SO, I enjoyed seeing Chilean Flamingo which I've never seen. Of course, other all the other ones as well. Made me wish to be able to hear hummingbirds singing (or other birdies as well, p;) It is SO hot to visit he zoo in our city now but I though I'll wait until a bit cooler here. Cicada might look big one but my husband & I are small sized couple, Haha. Take Care & Lot's of LOVE from Japan.
Thank you for the kind words in the comment.
I'm a little short of energy at the moment, I admit openly.
We're just getting from one day to the next... Comforting words definitely help.
I am very happy about the contribution to MosaicMonday again.
Kind regards from Heidrun
Hello Eileen, I'm so happy I stopped by to see this array of Critters. I could watch Meerkats and their antics all day. It is sad to read the Chilean Flamingos are under such threats as they too are engaging to watch.
Have a happy weekend!
