Oct 7-9th, these photos are from our latest visit to Chincoteague Island NWR Virginia and Blackwater NWR, Cambridge Md. These are some of my favorite places to visit to see wildlife.

1. On the way to Chincoteague Island Virginia we pass by Blackwater NWR in Cambridge Maryland. We drove through the refuge on the wildlife drive one loop before getting back on the road the Virginia.
2. Chincoteague Ponies, the main attraction for visiting the Chincoteague Island NWR.
3. Belted Kingfisher
4. Great Egret
5. Gulls, Cormorants and Terns. The Laughing Gull seems to be the most common gull seen at the refuge. The bottom photos shows the gulls with two different Terns, one of the Terns has more of a yellow bill and the other is really orange-red colored bill.
6. There are a few Terns seen at this wildlife refuge. The Royal Terns, Caspian Terns and the Forster's Tern.
The Sanderlings were plentiful and fun to watch on the beach. They like to run back and forth to the water.

Dear Eileen, I'm not surprised that these places are among your favorites for animal watching. There is really a lot to see there - ponies, turtles, beautiful nature and a variety of birds: it's great that you were even able to catch the Belted Kingfisher with prey in its beak. The Royal Terns with their funny "hairstyle" always make me smile. The large gathering of Sanderlings also looks very funny, I can well imagine that it is fun to watch them. The sunset is a DREAM! ππ₯°π

Awesome shots of places and beach. The Tricolored heron is amazing but my favourite is that Belted Kingfisher. I like Kingfishers very much.

Eileen, Thanks for taking us along on another visit to Chincoteague Island AND Blackwater NWRs. I always love seeing the Ponies. In this post, I’m impressed with the NUMBER of birds you saw. Especially the Sanderlings. The Tricolored Herons make for an interesting comparison to the Great Blue. Especially love the last two images … just great! A great variety of large and smaller birds. I like the shot with the kingfisher's catch!

so many beautiful scenes and really special wildlife. the kingfisher was a favorite and also the bald eagle. the terns, with the ocean in the background, those are gorgeous images. enjoy the upcoming week, i think it is suppose to be a little warmer and many thanks for hosting!!

So many birds! We have so few birds right now, just our typical winter birds.... and the turkeys of course, they are always around. I did see a bald eagle yesterday, it is always a special day when you see one of those.
