Oct 7-9, we were visiting Chincoteague Island National seashore and wildlife refuge. These photos are from our 2nd day at the refuge. We watched the sunrise and the sunset, we saw lots of birds, the ponies, dolphins, Sika deer, a snake and butterflies.

1. Sunrise on the Chincoteague Island National Seashore.
2. Brown Pelicans flying by.
3. Various gulls on the beach. Ring-billed Gull, Laughing Gull and Great Black-backed Gull.
4. Sika Deer seen of the road to the beach.
5. The Chincoteague ponies are always a favorite sight to see.
6. Warblers and a Brown Thrasher.
7. A Black Rat Snake on the trail and a Buckeye Butterfly on the beach.
8. The Belted Kingfishers were found in their usual fishing spot.
We saw 4 Tricolored Herons, below are two of the 4 seen with the White Ibis.
An Osprey flies by.
A tree decorated with White Ibis.
Plenty of Sanderlings on the beach.
A Great Blue Heron standing on a dead tree with a pretty sky.
We saw groups of Dolphins swimming by.
To end the day we watched the sun setting at Tom's Cove.

You had a great visit with a very pleasing assortment of wildlife. The Black Ratsnake would have been a highlight for me. I have never seen one. All the best for the season and a wonderful 2025.

Thank you for your much appreciated welcome back comment.:) Your post if filled with an abundance of beautiful wildlife images and lovely sunrise and sunset images too. The white Ibis in the tree, and the Great Blue Heron standing on the dead tree are both stand out images, but there are many in your post. I like the photo of the Brown Pelicans flying in that wonderful coloured sky , and also the Buckeye Butterfly and Dolphins are all very special images. So many lovely bird sightings were a treat to see.

I had to scroll back up, I'd forgotten the name, then go to Google Maps to find out where you were! Very cool place.

Early October looks like a good time to visit Chincoteague, judging by the number of wildlife you saw! I have taken several pictures of birds on that dead tree. The birds like it.
So many beautiful birds! I love that tree decorated with white ibis...so cool. The sunset shot is great too.

Even now would be good to visit Chincoteague, there would be lots of winter ducks and the snow geese. A snowy owl is being seen at Assateague in Maryland.

Where I live, you might see a little garter snake once every few years. Imagine my surprise when a black rat snake sprawled across the trail like this one.

Brown pelicans are my favorite birds, living in the mountains I never see them, but I spent most of my life by the ocean where I came to love them.

Always enjoyable to see your birds. Interestingly we don't see the sunrise over the ocean here in Western Australia, though there are a couple of places that do, depending on the angle of the bay. Wishing you a lovely Christmas spent with those you love and a fabulous New Year.

As soon as I saw all the White Ibis in the tree top, I thought maybe there needs to be a "Thirteen days of Christmas" and include White Ibis! They do look so pretty in the tree! Merry Christmas and I hope it is full of love just like your love for nature!

Outside the door, the stormy winds have calmed down, but it‘s still cold ... how cozy I sit here at the PC and write comments. I love this wonderful scenes here again very much.
The holidays are almost over. We have been looking forward to Christmas for so long with lots of preparations, crafting, writing cards, decorating the house and of course the obligatory baking and cooking of cookies. Now we are looking forward to the new year. What will 2025 bring?
