Saturday's Critters # 599

Welcome to Saturday's Critters! Hello and Happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Again I am sharing a mish-mash of photos dating back to late April. The photos are from our walks to the lake, on the local fire road and from my back yard.

Click on images for better viewing.

1. April 22nd, another day and another walk with Miney to the lake.  We saw a few Double-crested Cormorants and the turtles were out sunning on the rock and logs.

"Bird songs, nature's sweet melodies."

2. April 22nd, I use the Merlin app to id the birds I heard on our walk to the lake. It seems we have a mix of year round birds, winter birds and the new arrivals for the summer season.

The Pine Warbler is a breeder in my area, I often seen and hear them on my deck and in our yard. The male is a bright yellow color with some streaks on it's chest.

3. April  22nd, my metal moose is being surrounded by the creeping phlox.

4. April 23rd,  this is my first sighting of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird this spring.  I am always happy to see them return to my yard and feeder. The background is our Redbud tree which looked beautiful this Spring.

5. April 23rd, my back yard birds are the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, I saw and heard the Great-crested Flycatcher and a Tufted Titmouse.

I am including an older photo of the Great-crested Flycatcher, it is  pretty bird.

6. April 24th, our walk with Miney on the local fire road and a Carolina Chickadee on top of  a pine tree.

I am sharing an older photo of mine which shows the pretty Northern Parula.

7. April 26th, in between rain drops I stood on my deck and listened to the birds that are around my yard.  It was nice to hear the Wood Thrush back for the summer season.

Here is an older collage of the Ovenbird, it is another bird that breeds in my area.  We hear them often on our walk now, they have a loud call.

8. Flashback to some of my Florida birds, the Limpkin was seen in various parks during our visits.  I included one of my videos where the Limpkin is calling, they make a strange sound. Limpkins are large wading birds, they have long curved bill which is yellow with a dark tip. They eat mainly apple snails.

Flashback Florida various sightings of the Limpkin:

I am linking up to Heidrun's Mosaic Monday   I hope you can stop by and visit Heidrun and check out the Mosaic Monday post.

I think the Pine Warbler and the Northern Parula are great.
The film is also very beautiful.
The Smelleken app is really a godsend to recognize the song of the birds, I also have it on my phone.

Dear Eileen,
your Critter collection once again made my nature-loving heart smile! The Pine Warbler is an absolute delight – such an adorable little yellow fluffball 🐥💛!
I'm always amazed by the incredible variety of birds you can hear and identify during your walks – it's far more than what we usually manage with the Merlin app here in Austria!
And your other nature sightings – like the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, the Double-crested Cormorants and those sunbathing turtles – brought even more joy to the post 🐦🐢🪵.
Thank you for sharing these glimpses into your beautiful natural surroundings!

Sending warm greetings from Austria – and a gentle scratch behind the ears for sweet Miney 🐾💕

I am always amazed at how many birds you find in your area. Your merlin list shows lots of birds that we have in Oklahoma but the oven bird is new to me. It is a handsome critter. We had a limpkin blow into town a few years ago at a Nature Center. Lots of people including me went to up to look at it.

a great assortment today, of both the old and the new. i think i saw a limpkin once, but never heard it's call, i enjoyed the video. i loved seeing all of the hummingbird, i am not getting too many. the pine warbler was my favorite, the color and the inquisitive look. many thanks for hosting us crazy critter lovers and try to stay dry this weekend!!

Timelesslady said...

I would love to see a Pine Warbler; what a gorgeous yellow color. He would match my shutters and the flowers in my front garden. We haven't seen many, if any, hummingbirds this year. I have a lot of hummingbird flowers planted, but the weather here in southern New Jersey has been unusual this spring, with temperature fluctuations. Hopefully, we will soon have sightings. I love the oven bird; I don't know if I've seen that one. The Florida birds are lovely, and we have just returned from a vacation on Sanibel Island. We saw so much wildlife; I'll be posting the pics on Saturday Critters over the next few weeks.

From deck to trail, in springtime’s grace,
Birdsong fills each wooded space.
A warbler bright, a moose of steel,
And phlox in bloom around its heel.

The hummingbird with ruby gleam,
The Limpkin’s cry, a Floridian dream.
With Miney near and thrushes clear,
Your days are stitched in notes we hear.

PS Eileen, Thank you for sharing and hosting! Happy week ahead to you and your hubby! John

HI Eileen! You have a wonderful variety of birds in your area! The Merlin app is a wonderful way to identify tand keep record of them. We watched a finch family chase away a blue jay from their nest today from our window. I wish I could have captured it all on a video or photos, but they were all moving tpoo fast. The young finches are all fledging one by one.

You have such a huge variety of birds in your area. We probably have more than I think, but I can only think of a dozen in our area at the moment.

The Merlin app is great, isn’t it? I learned, while in Alaska, that the app can be used without an internet connection. I don’t know why I didn’t realize that sooner.

Since our return from Alaska, we have not seen any hummingbirds. We took down the feeder on May 17th. I miss my little friends.
