My walks with nature in October were on the NCR bike trail and our local fire roads
1. Oct 3rd, our walk with nature was on the fire road with Miney. We were finding some mushrooms along the trail.
2. Oct 14, another walk with Miney. We were enjoying the pretty fall colors. A deer was standing on the fire road, we turned around rather than spook the deer.
3. Oct 17th our walk with nature was on the NCR trail in Parkton. Another deer in a near by field, a Robin sitting high in a tree, the view of bike trail with Miney and the stream.
4. Another fire road walk to the lake and then a drive around the lake to the Prettyboy Dam. There was a big flock of Canada Geese, I had to hold Miney back or she would have chased them away.
5. I am sharing some of the winter birds I am hearing on our walks. It is nice to hear and see the winter birds. Some of these are archived photos, it is hard to hold Miney's leash and take bird photos.
Below is the Golden-crowned Kinglet.
Below are two Ruby-crowned Kinglets.
6. My Merlin App is picking up the sounds of the Brown Creeper now, another winter bird in my area.
7. In my yard, a winter bird is the White-throated Sparrow.
8. Another bird I see in the winter is the Purple Finch. Below is the male and female.

How nice your photos of the different Kinglets! They are simply lovely birds. I am familiar with only the Golden-crowned one.

Having Miney certainly encourages frequent nature walks :)
Nice walks and great birds to see. I use the Merlin app too, and just love it, trouble is I don't always see the birds it tells me is there, can hear it but not always spot it.

That male finch is so gorgeous! Don't think I have ever seen a golden-crowned kinglet..so pretty!

I can appreciate having to hold Miney back from the wildlife. Our grand-dog needs the same assistance!
On a very cold morning here, it is nice to see your photos from October with the vibrant colours. It is also nice to see small birds have safely migrated to a warmer climate.

Does Miney try to go after the deer or just stare at them curiously? Dakota totally ignores them while Zoey will chase them if given the opportunity.

i have not seen too many winter birds yet, i have been seeing the white throated sparrow, so they should visit you soon. i am seeing a lot of warblers in my yard, feeding off the ground! the kinglets are beautiful....as are the mushrooms, they don't look real!!

I enjoy seeing your bird photos, especially the Golden Crowned and Ruby Crowned Kinglets. They are around here, but are often difficult to see.
Miney is a good little hiker. Even with the best dogs, its hard to hold their leash with one hand take photos with the other.
I love your bird photos. We have had a lull in bird activity here but has picked up considerably just in the last week.

Oh, you found some mushrooms -are they eatable? You always have such nice bird pictures. I like them very much. My Violetta entry shows this time a squirl and a fox...but they are not alive...sorry for the fake...but when they are illuminated they look great....

I love the pictures of the winter birds. The only winter birds I know about here in Newnan, GA is Juncos and Towhees. I only see them in winter, usually not until January, or maybe I'm not looing out the back door so much during December.
