1. Hubby and I visited York Pennsylvania to see the Great Egret and Black-crowned Night Heron rookery. The tall pine trees are where the Egrets are nesting.
Below is a view of the lake and the trees with the Great Egret rookery.
2. We watched some Great Egrets flying back and forth to their nest, they were still adding sticks and small branches to their nest.
3. The nests must be close together in the photo below.
4. A Great Egret carrying a twig back to the nest.
Great Egret surrounded by pine cones.
5. Great Egret and a Slider Turtle.
This Great Egret may have been looking for food or sticks on the ground.
6. There is a small island in the middle of this lake, it where the Black-crowned Night Herons are nesting.
I found maybe 6-8 Night Herons, their numbers here have gone down over the years.
7. The Black-crowned Night Heron below looked pretty with the Redbud tree in the background.
"Feeling ducky today."
8. At the lake there were plenty of Mallards and hybrid ducks, lots of people walking with their dogs or fishing.
The Mallard walked toward me, I think it was looking for food.
