I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday
Lately I have been running a week or more behind in sharing photos from our weekend getaways or daytrips.. Last weekend hubby and I visited the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum. It is located near Philadelphia Pennsylvania.. We arrived at the refuge before 9am and just in time to join in on their free bird walk.. Below I am sharing some of the scenery from the wildlife refuge and some of the birds we saw during the bird walk.
Above the male Wood Duck, possible female Common Yellowthroat and a Cooper's hawk.
A pretty male Wood Duck..
We saw a lot of Great Egrets, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs and the Great Blue Herons..
I like the row of Great Egrets above with the Great Blue Herons.. Can you find two GB Herons?
At one end of the boardwalk a Sora had been seen around the time we were there, we did hear it call. But, it stayed hidden in the reeds. Also seen above some turtles, various ducks, a cute Marsh Wren and some wildflowers..I had a total of about 42 bird species seen & heard and some turtles..
This is not the greatest photo above, but it is the only photo I have that has both the Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs together.. I was happy being with the others in bird walk, it helps when our leader pointed out these two birds being seen together..
A view of the river and some of the flowers..It was nice to add another wildlife refuge to my list of NWR we have already visited.. I have a goal to visit as many of the USA National Parks and National Wildlife Refuges as possible.. I have another new NWR to do a post on from our trip to Colorado..the post is coming soon.
I hope everyone enjoyed our visit to the wildlife refuge and photos..
As always I thank you in advance for stopping by and for the nice comments.
I hope you can join in on our at Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday
Thanks to Judith our new host of Mosaic Monday and to the hosting group of Our World Tuesday: Arija, Gattina, Lady Fi, Sylvia, Sandy and Jennifer. I wish everyone a happy week ahead!

What an interesting sighting of many birds and reptiles. I just can't stop looking at the Wood Duck. Your Yellow Legs are similar to our Greenshanks. I saw the second Great Blue Heron (yay!) just behind the clearer on hiding in the pond foliage. Thanks for sharing.
Eileen, some beautiful pictures of the river and all it's natural inhabitants. Love the egrets, so graceful.
Good evening Eileen, so beautiful all the photos!
I love it so muchh!
Thanks for share!

I had to laugh to myself when you said you were running a week or two behind in your posts because I think I will be weeks/months behind before I finish my 6 week rip to Africa. Anyway, this was a lovely trip you did and this place on your post today is delightful with lots of different species birds and great shots. Hope you are having a great Sunday.
That's a lot of birds! Nice shots. I'm partial to the Cooper's!
love the yellowthroat! and the yellowlegs wading in the water. :)
Beautiful series, Eileen.
Another great place you have shown us Eileen. My bucket list is getting longer thanks to you. Great photos! Happy day to you :)
Beautiful collages, Eileen.
There are so many egrets, here in the Netherlands you see occasionally only one.
Another great series!!
Lovely wildlife shots. It's such a nice day there.
Beautiful shots you have done, especially the never ending Egrets, superb.
Beautiful, reflections are so lovely, and so many birds, yes I did see some almost hidden in the reeds. A great day out, and just in time for the walk too, well done, Cheers, Jean

The wood duck and egrets are beautiful! I like the last view of the river with the sunflowers as well!
Hi Eileen, So nice that you have a photo that includes both Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs. You had a wonderful walk there in the preserve. Love the Wood Ducks! Have a wonderful coming week.
All nice photos as usual but oh...those ones of the woodland duck on the water are just amazing : )
The Yellowthroat certainly gets it's name for what it has, so beautiful. Love all of the many different birds that you saw as well as the walk must have been so wonderful delightful. Happy week Eileen~
BTW I am so far behind it is wild ;)
That looks like a wonderful place to spend some time. You always have such a great variety of photos.
Wonderful shots!
You certainly got to see some great wildlife at that refuge, Eileen. So many different varieties of birds. I like the Egret lineup - yes, I see both Herons, too!
Very nice. I like the yellow flowers !
I really like the photo of the male wood duck with the shimmery green water and reflections. I did see the two great blue herons, lovely birds that I sometimes catch in the backyard frogging. ;-)
Thank you for linking to Mosaic Monday Eileen.
What a wonderful place to visit. Your images are lovely. The wood duck is most handsome. Quite a collection of feathered friends! Love the reflections in the water.
As always, nice bird shots!
Wonderful walk, incredible to get both kinds of yellowlegs in one photo. I have never seen a wood duck... one of my major birding wants!!
All your mosaics are wonderful (and please know that you certainly don't need to apologize for being a week or two behind -- I just posted something from last May~!)
I love that wood duck with beautiful colors, and the egrets too! Just fantastic photos, Eileen!
Great pictures! Love your wildlife scenes...hope you are having a good weekend.
Beautiful photos, an actual Wood Duck! They are so fantastic, I've never seen a live one in the wild. I was always in awe of egrets as a child, so ethereal, I like your perfectly reflected one, and some in the large group look like they have 2 heads.
Nice shots
Best part about it...the picture taking got you out in nature...huh...best place to be.
All the egrets standing in a row make for a wonderful photo. I did find both blue herons in the photo, too.
I know I've said this before, but I always love your bird photos, Eileen! Your first mosaic is terrific -- love the Yellowthroat and the Cooper's Hawk. I also love the long line of egrets and I did find the two Great Blue Herons. :) My husband and I love birdwatching, too.
Thanks for sharing your great photos and have a lovely week!
Hugs,
Denise
You have such wonderful adventures in nature! I love the row of birds. And the reflections in the photo of the wood duck are so pretty. Great job in capturing the beauty around you!
I love your birds!
You got some great shots here, Eileen! I love the Wood Duck. The Egrets make a great photo and I did see the Herons, too. I think our Heron must have moved on to warmer climates, haven't seen him for quite awhile.
Hi! Your photos are always very beautiful. I enjoyed them very much. I especially like Dood duck and Great egret photos. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful spot, and a good variety of birds to see.
Those were great. Such a wonderful variety of birds. Some I've never heard of. I enjoyed all your photos.
Lovely photos, nice to see so many Egrets, nd yes I can see the 2 other Herons in the weed happily wandering looking for a quick meal.
The wood duck and the egrets look so at home in those waters, don't they? The blue heron, to me, always seems a little scary...those eyes!
Have a wonderful week, Eileen!

Always so interesting to see your birds Eileen. Lovely photos....especially 2 (beautiful reflections!) and 6.

Nice pictures - I got rather excited when I saw my first real wood-duck. I had seen them in zoos and collections, but in the wild was much better.

What a great trip and such a beautiful place!! Wonderful captures as always and, thanks for sharing the beauty, Eileen! Have a great new week!!
You hit the mother load at that beautiful place. All of your photos are beautiful, but I really LOVE the one with all the rows in it. Background vegetation, herons, vegetation, water, more vegetation (with GB herons) and finally, more water.
That looks like a beautiful place to visit with so many great birds to see. Your photo with the two kinds of Yellow-legs in one photo is really great. Congratulations on getting it! Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful bird photos! Love the wood duck shot particularly with that lovely water reflection! What a great place for a bird walk!
Amazing how the GBH's blend in! So many birds you've seen and photographed. Congrats on a fine set!
This is a great collection of pictures but I especially appreciate the shots of the grouse. The bird is so cryptically camouflaged and you have captured it so clearly. Bravo!

WOW!
That is Ardea galore!!!
Wonderful to see so many together!
