Great Blue Heron

Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

For this week's wild bird I am featuring the Great Blue Heron.  Some shots taken recently at the Bombay Hook NWR.

I wish you a happy and magical New Year. I hope it brings you lots of new birds, joy and happiness. All the best in 2015.

The Great Blue Heron is a common bird found near the shores of open water and wetlands.

The Great Blue Heron is the largest Heron in North America.

These herons usually nest in trees or bushes near the water edge.

Herons locate their food by sight and usually swallow it whole.

Along with a few ducks, some Canada geese there are three Great Blue Herons lined up on the edge of the water..I hope you enjoyed my wild bird post..
Till next week's wild bird post.. I wish you happy Birding and have a wonderful week!

The great blue heron has a grand set of feathers. But I always think he looks as if he has a hunched back. Stunning reflections in the second last photo.

I always wondered at first why they were called blue. And then after several observations I figured it out. These guys show of the color well. Happy New Year! A year of personal growth and the defining step about who you will become! Congrats!

Great pictures, Eileen.

I'm going to have to get a camera that can get better long shots. I love my Canon G15, but if you're not close, the pics don't have enough detail.
